Though it's not the elusive Blu-ray player we're anxiously awaiting, Oppo's latest standalone deck is finally up for pre-order. The DV-983H universal player features 1080p upscaling of DVDs, SACD / Redbook CD / HDCD playback (no DVD-A?), optical / coaxial digital audio outputs, a USB 2.0 port, support for DTS, Dolby and Dolby Pro-Logic II, HDMI audio output supporting bit-stream and uncompressed multi-channel high resolution audio and a design that's actually not half bad. You'll also get a one-year warranty and a six-foot HDMI cable for $399, but we've got to say, picking this one up will be hard to do with knowledge of what's on the way.[Via AudioJunkies]

  • Oppo next to create a new Blu-ray player

Oppo fans left on the HD format sidelines can rejoice, as word comes that the company will add a Blu-ray player to its well-received line of DVD upscalers. According to the VP of product development, the company is "very early" in their development cycle, and we should expect more details sometime this summer. While sooner would definitely be better than later, we can't argue with a timeline that leads us to expect nothing less than a fully featured BD Live compatible player from a company with a reputation for delivering more bang for the buck.[Thanks, Tom]

Oppo's been known to add a hint of style to its PMPs in the past, and it looks like that touch of beauty is still apparent on the Super Five. This unit features a three-inch display, sleek top-mounted controls and support for a smorgasbord of formats including RM, RMVB, FLV, DAT, MPG, MPEG, AVI and 3GP. Furthermore, it'll also play nice with MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG and FLAC files, while the integrated photo viewer supports JPEG, BMP, GIF and PNG. Best of all, a 2GB iteration will run you just CNY899 ($119), but you'll have to make a quick trip overseas to pick one up. Check out a few more angles after the break.[Via I4U News, images courtesy of iMP3]

  • Oppo releases the DV-980H 1080p up-converting DVD player

Oppo has been at the forefront of the up-conversion DVD player market for a couple of years now. A few months ago they released the DV-981HD, a 1080p up-conversion DVD player, but it was missing something - component video jacks. Sure, HDMI might be the cool kid on the playground but there are still a lot HDTVs that cannot play nicely with HDMI and rely on component for their high-def fun. Plus, the new DV-980H doesn't stop with just 1080p and some messily component outputs, oh no, 7.1 analog audio output along with a USB 2.0 port were added too. If you happen to be one of those folks that cannot make up their mind on which high-def format is right for you, the DV-980H is currently available for $169 on their website and will help make those standard DVDs look at least a little better.

  • OPPO Blast PMP is blowing up your FLVs

OPPO, a PMP maker we've come to expect some interesting designs from (see the guitar-shaped DAP and the pendant player), is bringing something a little more tame to market. The 6.9mm thick Blast sports a 2.4-inch TFT screen, takes microSD cards, and can play back all the standards, like MP3, WMA, MP4, AVI, XVID, and FLAC, which is all well and good, though we've seen a million of these and counting. What's different in this case -- at least a little -- is that the Blast can supposedly play back FLV files, which gives it a certain modern flavor, and suggests that even mass-produced China-ware is getting caught up in the YouTube game. Not available anywhere even close to the US, price unknown.[Via PMP Today]

  • Oppo's wearable UP-9 pendant digital audio player

Oppo most certainly is accustomed to cranking out digital music players with eye-catching designs, and the pendant-styled UP-9 is no exception. Showcased in Korea, this wee DAP sports a jeweled exterior, diminutive display for showing track names, time remaining, and battery life information, a built-in FM / AM radio tuner, recording functions, equalizer settings, and an obligatory lanyard for tossing around your neck, arm, or other extremity. The unit will reportedly come loaded with 1GB of internal capacity, and while there's no sign of an American release, those in South Korea can snag one for ???79,000 ($85).

  • Oppo unveils sleek 2GB V5 widescreen PMP

While you may be a bit more familiar with Oppo's upscaling DVD player lineup, the company is hitting us up with an ultra-sleek "credit card sized" portable media player this time around. The V5 touts a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, three-inch touchscreen LCD, and a design that bears striking resemblance to your run-of-the-mill digiframe. Nevertheless, the 2GB V5 relies on an overly simplistic control scheme, leaving the buttons on top of the unit's frame rather than around the bezel, and comes in at just 11-millimeters thick. Although the company seems a bit more interested in just how pretty this thing looks than dishing out the juicy details, we do know that your MP3 and MPEG4 files will play back just fine here, but any info concerning battery life, availability, or pricing are noticeably absent.[Via TheMP3Players]

  • Oppo DV-981HD 1080p DVD player reviewed

If you've got a 1080p HDTV, haven't already jumped on the HD DVD or Blu-ray bandwagon -- or maybe you only own the as yet non-upconverting PlayStation 3 -- and need a good DVD player look no further. Techdigs took a look at Oppo's just released $229 DV-981HD DVD player and decided it's hit the price/performance sweet spot perfectly. We feel the need to mention that Oppo includes the HDMI cable with its high def player (seriously Sony, we're not going to let you off the hook for that), and analog 5.1 audio outputs (don't think we forgot about you Toshiba). Overall the reviewer found the speedy menus, good performance on Silicon Optix's HQV tests courtesy of the included Faroudja scaler and easy-to-use remote. Of course, this player isn't for everyone, most HDTV owners are probably just fine with the older OPDV971H or OPDV970HD depending on setup, but if you want to watch DVDs at 1080p, this is probably the player for you.

  • Oppo DV-981HD adds 1080p DVD upscaling... loses component outs

Oppo Digital is back with yet another in its line of DVD upscalers, the DV-981HD. New in this edition is upscaling all the way to 1080p, courtesy of the included Faroudja DCDi video processor. Successor to the highly regarded DV971H, the new unit includes such features as DVD-Audio and SACD support and DivX compatibility, among other digital media. One thing this player doesn't bring to the table however, is component video outputs. If your display doesn't support HDMI or DVI with HDCP, you'll be falling back to the dark ages of S-Video or even composite connections. Besides the HDMI 1.1 port ((HDMI cable included, hear that Sony?), there are also analog 5.1, optical and coaxial audio outputs powered by a 24-bit/192kHz d/a converter. MSRP is $229 and it's available now, if digital video is a part of your setup and DVD upscaling is more appealing than current HD DVD or Blu-ray offerings, this should be an excellent buy. Continue on for larger images and a shot of the back.

  • OPPO Digital's 20-inch TV/DVD combo

If you can look past the circa-1999 Cinema Display design and the 4:3 aspect ratio, OPPO Digital's new LT-2007 LCD TV/DVD Player Combo doesn't look too incredibly shabby. Beyond the obvious DVD playback provided by the display's base, there are VGA, Component and S-Video inputs for use with a general selection of 480i/p, 720p and 1080i devices. To further its stand alone properties, the unit includes built-in stereo speakers, and supports USB storage devices for a good selection of video, audio and photo formats. This actual display is a 20-inch LCD at a 800 x 600 resolution, and features a 500:1 contrast ratio. There is also a built-in NTSC tuner and a shiny remote control to round out the package. The LT-2007 goes for $600, and looks to be available now.

  • Oppo's new HDMI-equipped upscaling DVD player - DV-970HD

Oppo, maker of everyones favorite DVD upscaler, has just announced another model - the DV-970HD. This time around the player features HDMI output rather then the DVI. Oh man, it just doesn't end there ether. This player is loaded with goodies like 4-in-1 media card readers and USB input, PAL/NTSC support, 5.1 analog audio output, and optical/digital coax outputs. It supports DivX, DVD-Audio, SACD, and Xvid. This slim little player even has the ability to utilize the digital path of DIM but keep the resolution at a 480i in order to feed an external scaler. Man, there is just to much to talk about with this player. Oh and did we mention it was only $149 and included a HDMI cable?[thanks for the tip Kevin]

  • Oppo X31M guitar-ish shaped DAP

To be honest, we didn't really see it at first glance, but apparently this new X31M player from Oppo is shaped like a musical instrument of the guitar variety. Funny, no? We're not sure on capacity, but the player does support the usual MP3 and WMA files, promises 11 hours of battery and can play FM radio. There's an OLED display, USB 2.0 connection, and, uh, a headphone jack. These China-bound good times can be yours for some undetermined price, at some undetermined point in time.[Via DAPreview]

  • Oppo Digital OPDV971H, DVD player with upscaling

Let's face it: no matter how much you spent on that HD display, you're still going to be watching a lot of standard resolution programming and recorded media for quite some time (especially since the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD wars are far from over). So, if you're going to watch those DVDs on your HD set, chances are you're going to need to invest in a DVD player that can at least make them look better through upscaling. DVDTalk has the goods on the Oppo Digital OPDV971H, whic offers good upscaling, DVI outputs, good deinterlacing, and a price of just $199. And considering what you've probably already spent on your home theater setup, that price probably sounds pretty good for a box that should tide you over until you've replaced all of your current DVDs with HD versions. [Thanks, Michael]
