  • WoW Moviewatch: ROFLMAO!

Monday is upon us once again, and since we're all in need of some workweek cheer, we dug into the Moviewatch archives to find this classic from Oxhorn. Sure, this 2007 machinima looks a bit dated, especially when compared with the new models that rolled out in Warlords of Draenor, but it's still darned funny. (Much like the even older Muppet Show skit this machinima is parodying.) Go on, we dare you not to laugh. Happy Monday, everyone! Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: The Last Video of Oxhorn

It is with a heavy heart that I share the final machinima of Oxhorn. The video has all the light heart and fun you'd expect from Oxhorn, but it's punctuated with the realization that this is the final video from a machinima legend. I won't talk about reasons or speculation, since Oxhorn includes what you need to know in the final moments. Oxhorn's been a compatriot and ally for machinima makers of the year. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say he'll be missed. I played the Oxhorn Brand Medley at my wedding, and I've sang ROFLMAO to my daughter more than a few times. May the odds ever be in your favor, Oxhorn. You can see the video here. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! For whatever reason, there aren't many machinima videos about Easter. Rabbit Stew stands alone as a rare celebration of the Spring holiday. If you feel like following suit, don't worry: scrawling PWNT across an egg isn't that much work. Do it with a Sharpie. Interested in the wide world of machinima? The holidays are here and we're all in full-blown, joyful sing-a-long mode. Time to bust out Oxhorn's winter classic, It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like This Raid Isn't Going to Happen. We've all been there and this is definitely the season for spontaneously missing raid members. With more than a few years under its belt, this raid lamentation is just as apropos today as ever. The Oxhorn Brand Medley is my Thanksgiving song, for more than just the turkey-themed tasty caruncles. See, the medley played at my wedding. When my wife first joined me in our deep love and appreciation of WoW machinima and filk, Oxhorn Brand Medley rocketed to the top of our playlist. The varying styles and addictive catchy lyrics keep the medley in a frequent, family-friendly rotation. I'm thankful for my wife, and I'm thankful for my daughter. I'm thankful for you guys, the machinima creators and machinima watchers. I'm thankful for the WoW community and all the creative, artistic moments. I'm thankful for all of it. So while we're all chowing down on some forget-the-diet quality food, take a moment and enjoy this awesome, amazing life we all share. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: The Tale of Cloran Hastings by Oxhorn

    by

The latest work from beloved machinima artist Brandon M. Dennis, a.k.a. Oxhorn, is ... A book! Apparently Oxhorn's writing talents go beyond clever song lyrics and comedic shorts, as he's just published his first novel, a fantasy called The Tale of Cloran Hastings. To publicize the release of the book, Oxhorn has made a machinima teaser trailer to introduce us to the story. Watching the trailer, we're given glimpses of far off lands, man-killing crabs, and a mysterious, watery hand reaching out from the sea. We're only given a vague sense of the story though, which is reminiscent of the Odyssey, but with a darker and tense mood. What do you think? Does the trailer make you want to read the book? If you're curious, here's an excerpt from the back cover. "A wave of water in the shape of a clawed hand crashes onto the deck of Wavegrazer. The wheel spins violently; the ship lurches and Cloran's men are flung into the sea. As the masts break and the sky goes black, one name flutters across Cloran's lips. 'Adaire...' "Cloran has spent his life at sea and is set to retire. He hopes to marry his long-suffering fiancée Adaire, but his hopes are dashed when King Bozin sends him on one final journey to the far-flung icy island city of Miotes. This time, however, the Sea is jealous of Cloran, and will never give him up to Adaire freely. Alas, Cloran has no choice, and accepts the mission begrudgingly. 'One final journey,' he tells himself. No matter what happens, it will be his last." More information can be found at the book's official site.

  • WoW Moviewatch: That's the World of Warcraft That I Used To Play

And now for something a little different... also, something epic and amazing. Because we don't have enough covers of that song yet, Ian Beckman and Oxhorn stamped their incredible brand of hilarity over Gotye's infamous song. In That's The World of Warcraft That I Used to Play, the duo deride the long lingering but inescapable appeal of WoW. Even if some of the jibes aren't entirely fair, this is one heck of a song. They really managed to do a good job of the cover vocals, as well as the lyrics. In lieu of trying to match Kimbra's soaring voice (something many have tired and failed), Oxhorn stuck to his own range and recreated the experience. Ian did an admirable job of Gotye's part, even while making it sound a little new. All in all, this is just a great video. Interested in the wide world of machinima? Work Work, Zug Zug, Dabu hit the mean streets of YouTube nearly three years ago to celebrate Labor Day. Hey, let's just consider that my clever little joke for the week, all right? This song has been one of my favorite Oxhorn shorts ever since. It's not a complex piece; the song is simple, and you'll find yourself humming it through the entire day. Speaking of Oxhorn, swing by his site and check out the huge array of contests he's running this month. There's a little something there for everyone, and who doesn't love a giveaway? Dynamic Action Team is an old Oxhorn series from a few years ago when he tackled the characters and culture of Team Fortress. You might recognize the voices right away; they're trademark Oxhorn. The plot goes like this: Three characters from TF2 get trapped in the World of Warcraft. Hijinks ensue as they get accustomed to Azeroth, and even more hijinks take place when they try to get away. The video is an amusing little romp through the world of gaming culture. Thanks for the reminder, Drakkenfyre! Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: Oxhorn Brand Medley

The Oxhorn Brand Medley was one of the first machinima my wife ever heard. And while the graphics for the video are dandy, it was the music and catchy refrain that captured her ear. This is the song that made her a machinima fan. For me, of course, the Oxhorn Brand Medley served to underscore Oxhorn's huge cast of characters, his history as a storyteller, and his original music. This song is still my favorite, even though Oxhorn has certainly done other work since then. If nothing else, you'll find yourself singing "lolomgwtgdairyqueen, lolomgbbtheq" over and over again. Mister Evil Runs for Office is an older Oxhorn video, released a little over a year ago. While the video was a general political parody at the time, it's been on my mind lately as we all consider the ramifications of SOPA. Ostensibly, the video is about Mister Evil's doomed race to become dean of Evil University. When I watch the video, though, I can't help but think about the shenanigans, sound-bite politics, and general distasteful miasma that surround our elections. While the entire political speech is obviously fantasy and fake, Evil's words unmistakably remind me of actual, real-world campaigns. That's a scary thought. • WoW Moviewatch: I Saw Three Rogues

    12.22.2011

The holiday season is in full swing, which makes it a great time to celebrate with some WoW-themed holiday music. This is Oxhorn's I Saw Three Rogues. This is a pretty distant parody video; while it's obviously evocative of the holiday season, none of the lyrics in the song directly reference Winter's Veil. I Saw Three Rogues is actually about three years old, although it only saw video form last year. While we might see something new from Oxhorn, this one's pretty good to kill time while waiting for Santa to show up. Visit the WoW Rookie Guide for links to everything you need to get started as a new player, from how to control your character and camera angles when you're just starting out, to learning how to tank, getting up to speed for heroics and even how to win Tol Barad.

PAX Prime is freshly finished and Gamescom 2011 is a distant memory, but con season isn't over yet! Not by a long shot, in fact. Dragon*Con is just around the corner, and we have undertaken the monumental task of putting together a what's-what for all of our adoring MMO fans. Now, just because Dragon*Con isn't as internationally renowned as Gamescom or as well-publicized as Penny Arcade's brainchild doesn't mean you should write it off by any means. There's still a whole truckload of events for MMO players at Dragon*Con. From Q&As to panels (including one on MMO podcasting that includes our very own Shawn Schuster!) and more, there's a little something for every MMO player at Dragon*Con. So whether you're attending or just want to see what kind of news you have to look forward to coming out of Dragon*Con (news that will, of course, be covered right here on Massively), jump on past the cut and see what the Atlanta-based con has in store.

From Hollywood celebrities to the guy next door, millions of people have made World of Warcraft a part of their lives. How do you play WoW? We're giving each approach its own 15 Minutes of Fame. You may not recognize the name Nathan Allen Pinard -- but if you're a fan of the machinima scene, you're bound to have heard his stirring musical take on life in Azeroth via the ever-popular Oxhorn machinima. I mean, come on ... If the irresistible compilation of Oxhorn favorites above doesn't get your foot tapping, then you may just have left your heart frozen solid back in Northrend! As much as we love what he's done with Oxhorn and others, Pinard's known for much more than his music for machinima. Specializing in composing for video games, movies, TV and films as well, Pinard has been hard at work on the score for the sci-fi game Gemini Rue -- oh, and tearing through Cataclysm like a bat out of hell, as well. What's the composer up to lately? There's another Oxhorn machinima in the works, yes, and much more. Join us after the break for the scoop!

Work warning: This video references Staghorn's private bits. This is a new Thanksgiving video by Oxhorn. He released it late yesterday as a tip of the hat to all his fans and friends to celebrate the season. Holiday traveling can be serious business, even in Azeroth. As Staghorn prepares to use a flight point to go see friends and family for Thanksgiving, he finds himself stalled at security due to his armor. Unable to remove his helmet, the situation becomes even more troubling when Staghorn Gets a Pat Down. When Staghorn ends up in the slammer, unexpected help arrives and spirits him off to enjoy pecan pie. Interested in the wide world of machinima? Oxhorn has been a busy man. First, he's released Ox Chop as a celebration of Halloween. In this short video, the character Oxhorn and Professor Evil go to visit the Headless Horseman. Sadly, the encounter doesn't go well and everyone leaves empty-handed. Second, if you enjoyed this video, Oxhorn has even released a ringtone that goes with the video. It's a pretty nice little side-thing to go with the video, especially given that some of the best parts of Oxhorn videos are his music. If you enjoy Oxhorn's video, drop by his live show some time. I've attended a few and they are pretty entertaining. Enjoy the video and have a great Halloween! Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Irdeen Productions created Boomdyada for the Blizzard Rise to Power contest. While the contest version of the movie is a little different, this final machinima is the one that Irdeen released to the world. The song and video is obviously inspired by the Discovery.com The World is Just Awesome series. This video is just awesome. I don't have the words for how happy it makes me. In the same way that Discovery.com's original advertisements somehow instills a sense of awe and wonder in the audience, Irdeen has done exactly the same thing for Azeroth. Featuring dozens of cameos and landscapes, Irdeen has managed to convey excitement and appreciation for everything World of Warcraft. (For those with a sharp eye and ear, that is in fact an Oxhorn cameo also.) The voice actors include such well known machinima stars as Jesse Cox and Matt Geenburg. Irdeen Productions should absolutely be proud of this video. It's got to become a favorite of many WoW fans, and I hope we see more like it when Cataclysm comes around. • WoW Moviewatch: Inventing Swear Words 4

    01.18.2010

Today's WoW Moviewatch is a tiny indulgence for me. If you've not heard, I got married yesterday. (Yesterday as of the time this post was published.) I share everything in my life with my beloved bride, even WoW machinima. The videos created by the machinima community are wonderful things to watch as a couple. Like so many other things, however, she needed a gateway introduction to machinima. That intro came in the form of the Oxhorn Medley. But the Medley isn't the only Oxhorn theme in our lives. The dance portion of Inventing Swear Words 4 -- which we call Dance Fellas Dance -- was actually played yesterday for our wedding. This song was one of our first dances, and made use of the time we spent taking classes and learning our moves. Since Oxhorn has cropped up so much in our lives, today's Moviewatch is dedicated to my wife. I love her more than I love breath, and I look forward to our lives together. In the words of Mortus, I can't say how happy I am to know that she'll forever pwn those noobs with me. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • Oxhorn releases his first WoW geek holiday album

    by

    12.11.2009

Oxhorn has released a very special Christmas album focused on his WoW-themed music, called Oxhorn's Christmas for Geeks. The album is available both on Amazon and iTunes. Heck, you can even pick it up on Rhapsody and Napster. Oxhorn was pretty thorough to make sure that you could get the album by whichever route you like. The album has a lot of classic favorites, as well as a boatload of new skits. My favorite is his new version of Hark! Hear the Wails. That has always been one of my very favorite songs by Oxhorn. It does, however, show the signs of being created much, much early in Oxhorn's career. It shows some of the rustiness and coarseness of an artist's early work, and really needed some tuning up. The new version did that fantastically. Oxhorn's Christmas for Geeks has a resounding 18 tracks. It's split about evenly between skits and songs. I was actually quite impressed by the wide array of musical styles explored by this album. While the lyrics are obvious parodies of popular holiday songs, interpreted in a World of Warcraft style, I think Oxhorn has really done a great job of matching his lyrics to the Christmas theme. Even if you're not going to rock out to Oxhorn's tunes, it's one hell of a gift for a fellow WoW player.

Oxhorn is usually quite reliable for holiday festivities, and his video The Peace Circle instantly springs to mind when I consider Thanksgiving. "Why Mike!" you might exclaim, "What does a hippy love circle have to do with Thanksgiving?" The answer lies in Thunk's favorite food -- turkey. As the peace circle proceeds, our Night Elf mediator encounters a painful truth. Thunk loves him some turkey. The caruncles are very tasty, after all. The good news, however, is that Thunk has thoughtfully brought enough for everyone. Even Associate Professor Evil is forced to acknowledge thankfulness for Thunk's turkey.
