Sony's going to be tinkering with the PlayStation Network today, so rather than delay the weekly PlayStation Store update to Wednesday, it decided to move it up by a few hours -- neat, huh? That means you get access to the likes of the Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and NBA Elite 11 demos (and an early chance to download Swords & Soldiers if you're a PS+ subscriber) right now. It's also the grand opening of the new PSOne Imports section of the PS Store. As expected, two MonkeyPaw Games releases -- Cho Aniki and Gaia Seed -- lead what will hopefully be a strong and steady charge of games from Japan. Use the handy-dandy buttons below to just straight to what's new for the platform of your choice, or hit the break for the full update. It's up to you! The PlayStation Network is getting its oil checked and tires rotated tomorrow, September 21, and will knock several features offline during that time. The regular maintenance is expected to run from 8AM-5PM Pacific (11AM-8PM Eastern; 4PM-2AM BST) and will prevent access to the PSN Store, Home, Account Management. Users "may encounter difficulty while signing in to PSN." Due to the maintenance, Sony will have its regular PSN update today. Follow the PlayStation Twitter for updates tomorrow on when the network will return to normal operation.

It's a relatively quiet week for the PSN update ... unless you count the explosions from all-out wormy warfare in Worms 2 Armageddon. The first downloadable PlayStation Move game, Tumble, also makes it debut alongside demos for Move titles Racquet Sports and EyePet. There are also discounts this week on Monkey Island Special Edition 2: Lechuck's Revenge and Mega Man 9. So, all in all, a pretty good week for downloadable titles. The belligerent invertebrates of Worms 2: Armageddon are ready to declare open hostilities today on PSN. Launching when the Tuesday service update goes live, the full 1080p title features a single-player campaign, along with online and couch multiplayer support. The opportunity to toss the Holy Hand Grenade across the PlayStation Network will cost $15. The PSN version of Worms 2: Armageddon will also offer 27 Trophies to collect and Sony-specific hats for the little warriors. Unlockable helmets include: Sackboy-, Motorstorm-, Lemmings-, Buzz- and Helghast-themed variants. With all those Worms on the field wearing Helghast masks, we guess it'll be *puts on glasses* ... a Killzone. Yeeeaaahhhhhhhh.

Two must-buy titles grace the PSN update this week. First up, for PS3, the Castle Crashers are finally set to rescue some princesses using classic 2D brawlin' -- you've put $15 aside for it, haven't you? Also, PSP-owning fans of strategy titles shouldn't miss out on Valkyria Chronicles 2, the worthy follow-up to the overlooked PS3 gem. If you're one of what must be millions of PS3 owners who have already dropped three large on a Bravia 3DTV, you've already experienced a small taste of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift in 3D as part of the demo pack Sony gave you. Good news for you: The experience doesn't end there. As part of tomorrow's PlayStation Store update, Sony is making MotorStorm 3D Rift available, a more substantial 3D-ified release of the game featuring 10 courses, each linked to a specific event type. Unfortunately, there's no multiplayer (online or off), but at least it'll run on those old-fashioned 2D televisions, too -- like anyone uses those anymore! The price of admission for this thrill ride: $10. The price of the game running in 3D: 30 frames per second.

It's almost time to start honing your rocket-sliding skills. Sega has announced that a playable demo of its over-the-top Platinum Games and Shinji Mikami developed shooter Vanquish will arrive on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PSN Store on Tuesday, August 31. Europe will get the demo a day later on September 1, with Australian gamers getting their hands on it Thursday, September 2. Famitsu reports (via Siliconera) that Japan will also receive the demo on the 2nd. The "Vanquish Official Demo: Velocity Attack," as Sega calls the demo, will comprise the section of the game we played at E3 -- a space station interior with bipedal "Walker" mechs to commandeer and an enormous spider-like robot boss to defeat in incredibly stylish ways. (You know, the usual stuff: by grabbing the monstrosity's missile out of the air, turning it around and throwing it back like a giant lance.)

  • Gameloft's N.O.V.A. orbiting PSP soon

N.O.V.A., Gameloft's first-person shooter for smartphones, is headed to PSP as part of the publisher's plan to have every game it's ever made on every platform in the universe. Gameloft announced via Facebook that the game -- currently available on iPhone, iPad, Android and Palm Pre -- will soon be released as a PSN download for PSP. Gamerbytes speculates that the title will be released as a Mini, which means that, like all Minis, it won't have any kind of multiplayer functionality. The mobile version supports both online and local wireless play. N.O.V.A. is the story of a once-retired member of a military group dedicated to protecting "near-orbital" Earth colonies from aliens called "Judgers." Yes, Judgers.%Gallery-99915%

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game: Not based on the movie, but the comic: Is an awesome brawler -- yes, that's the actual full title (no, it's not). Our review explains how much we liked the game. Don't trust our review? Well, we're hurt ... but there's also a demo for the game in this week's PSN update, so definitely try that out. Also, as another treat, this week's update also includes a "must try" demo for Valkyria Chronicles 2 on PSP. Check out the full update after the break. PSN Tuesday brings the cute and epic this week. Cute comes in the form of Rocket Knight, which may have some of its sales fueled by nostalgia, but can be a blast for those in the mood for classic (pseudo) 2D side-scrolling. The epic is delivered by Dragon Age: Origins' "Darkspawn Chronicles" DLC, which is just the latest add-on in the saga of Ferelden -- this one with a "what if" twist. It's been a long time coming but the Trials of St. Lucia downloadable content for Dante's Inferno has arrived. Previously in the epic St. Lucia marketing campaign we've learned how the DLC's "trial" editor works, and picked up some survival tips from the development team. The launch trailer -- which we presume is the final trailer for the content -- gives us a longer look at the new playable character, St. Lucia, inspired by Christianity's Saint Lucy. Dante's Inferno: The Trials of St. Lucia is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network for 800 in MS funny money or 9.99 Earth dollars, respectively. %Gallery-88277%
