This week's PSN update adds The UnderGarden and Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2, two titles that didn't review all too well on our little corner of the internet. Although, not all is lost, if you somehow missed out on playing one of the best games of 2009, Assassin's Creed 2 is available for $30. The "Deluxe Edition" includes the core game along with all the DLC. Check out the Fight Night Champion demo if you're looking to play something punchy. The full PSN update can be found after the break... and please try to ignore the crickets hanging out in the PSP section. You know her. You adore her. You may barely remember her name, but you'll never forget the face of "Dead Space Girl." If you don't plan on picking up Dead Space 2 for PS3, which includes Dead Space Extraction, you can still grab the Move-controlled port of this on-rails shooter by downloading it from PSN for $15 today -- or try the demo for free. If you're looking for something just as bloody as Dead Space, but half as mature, there's also the Bulletstorm demo. It's definitely worth a test drive, if only for the simple experience of tossing a futuristic lasso on a bad guy, yanking him toward you in slo-mo, shooting him a couple times in-process, and then kicking him full-blast into some spikes. Check out the full PSN update after the break. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

Double Fine's second downloadable offering -- the last being the delightful Costume Quest -- for PSN and XBLA, Stacking, will arrive on those platforms February 8 and 9, respectively. Along with the dates, publisher THQ announced pricing: $14.99 on PS3 and 1200 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360. To get you in the mood for stacking Russian nesting dolls, we've posted video of a young lady who should be especially good at this game after the break.

*BOOM* Our top game of 2010 hits PSN. Mass Effect 2 is available now to download through the digital distribution network, but don't expect to be playing it right away. The title is 12 gigglebytes, which means if you start downloading now, you'll be lucky to finish before the Honolulu sunset. Thankfully, the game is also available at your local retailer in disc form. If you're feeling particularly old school, the original Mega Man is also available. There's also the Simon Pegg-voiced game Spare Parts. Check out the full PSN update after the break. Remember how last week we said that the PSN hadn't recovered from that pre-holiday extrabonanza update? Let's just apply that same idea to this week. It's a small one. Say you're on a trip. Your cell phone dies. You need to play Angry Birds. Well, following today's PSN update, you'll be able to carry a backup version of Rovio's runaway hit with you at all times -- on your PSP (you take that everywhere, right?). Of course, if you're at home and get tired of squinting at a portable screen, the Minis release will run on your PS3, which should be easier on the eyes ... as long as your TV isn't a 3-inch LCD. Final pricing for the Minis version of Angry Birds will be revealed once the next PSN update goes live later tonight, but it should be only a few bucks. If you're in China and don't want to wait for the PlayStation Store update, stop by Guangzhou province and play the most realistic (and thoroughly unlicensed) game of Angry Birds ever.

    12.21.2010

We honestly don't even know where to begin with this week's PSN update -- it's like staring down the business end of a five-foot Philly cheesesteak. There are demos for Dead Space 2, Mass Effect 2 and LittleBigPlanet 2. Not interested in demos? Well, there's RISK: Factions and Echochrome 2 for PS3 and Valkyria Chronicles 2 for super cheap on PSP. It really is an amazing update for the holidays. Check out the full PSN update after the break. (Philly cheesesteak not available, sold separately.) For those who don't have all the X-Men Arcade tracks forever burned into their brain, here's the reference for the headline. This week's PSN update is packed with downloadable superheroes. The full game of Prototype is available, along with the aforementioned X-Men Arcade and the flipping good Marvel Pinball. Also available is emo Prince from Warrior Within who, when he isn't slicing up bad guys, is constantly cutting himself as an ever-present reminder of his pain for not selling enough copies of The Sands of TIme, the result of which forced him to wear "man-scara" in the sequel. Family-friendly and family-defending titles are available in this week's PSN update. The friendly comes in the form of Funky Lab Rat, an action puzzler that uses that thing called "physics," which scientist-types keep trying to tell us is a real thing -- don't believe the hype. What you should totally believe in is the zombie apocalypse, with the latest training simulation, Dead Nation, available today -- it's quite excellent when approached with a fellow, future survivor. Too much good PSN content! Head ... *pop*. Okay, maybe it's not that dramatic, but there are a lot of games in this week's update. There are new titles like Pac-Man Championship Edition DX or Spelunker HD, and new-to-PSN games like Dragon's Lair and Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalker, with every title mentioned carrying a $10 price tag. Then ... well, then there are all the price updates and plenty of add-on content. Check it all out after the break. This week's PSN update delivers the first installment in the Prince of Persia trilogy HD-ified for North America. Available in Europe as a Blu-ray compilation later this week, The Sands of Time is available now for $15 in North America, with the other two installments launching in December. The Crazy Taxi remake is ready to take you for a ride if you got $10 and there's also some refined high-quality Peggle to be found on PSP. For PlayStation Plus subscribers, check out Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus ... it's free. The rest of this week's update can be found after the break. With all the Black Ops calling gamers to duty, it's no surprise that this week's PSN update is fairly quiet. So, why not kick back with a refreshing bottle of Crescent Pale Mist and enjoy ... wait, CPM is a game?! It sounds like a microbrew. Oh my, this is embarrassing. We had high hopes that our PS3, through one of its many firmware updates, had become a beverage dispenser. Anyway, if you're curious about Crescent Pale Mist, we've placed a trailer after the break, along with the rest of this week's update. 11.03.2010

Kratos is committing bloody vengeance all over this week's PSN update. The God of War Collection is available for download on PS3 and God of War: Ghost of Sparta is ready for handheld brutality on PSP. If you're a PlayStation Plus member you also get a "full game trial" of God of War 1 and 2, which you can test drive for an hour apiece. Also, Trophies and game progress will roll over if you purchase the game after taking the blades out for a spin. While you're taking advantage of your membership, you should also check out the Vanquish trial. There's plenty of more stuff in this update, so head on past the break for all the details. Note: In addition to this week's update being really behind schedule, Sony is telling PSN users that, while all of the content is now live, it's not actually appearing in the PlayStation Store interface. You'll need to use the PS Store search function to find the new additions until the problem is addressed. This week's downloadable games for PSN include the port of online-only shooter Blacklight: Tango Down and the direct-to-PSN North American release of Superstars V8 Racing -- a title which makes us desire tomato juice like you wouldn't believe. Also, for Rock Band 3 owners, the Rock Band 2 import should be available now through the PSN. However, RockBand.com -- where you'll need to go for the code required for the process -- is currently down pending its (hopefully impending) relaunch, so sit tight! Update: Harmonix's RockBand.com is now live with an export guide. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

The surprisingly not bad game Deadliest Warrior is available now on the PSN. The service also adds Alien Breed: Impact and it's likely worth your time to check out the demo for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. If for some reason you're a fan of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and still haven't picked up the game's two map packs, those are now on sale for 50 percent off at $7.49 apiece. The PSN update has quite some quality downloadable games this week. Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light not only arrives, but it adds a whole featured section on the PSN. There's also Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue and Swords & Solidiers. Fans of Borderlands should also take a look at the game's final piece of DLC, "Claptrap's New Robot Revolution." Although, remember, if you haven't already invested in the game's DLC, the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition will be out October 12. Check out the full PSN update after the break.
