If a PSN Update could be a classified as a zombie invasion, consider this humble paragraph the red door keeping the horde at bay. Once you click past the break, be prepared for an update the likes of which you've never seen. It's big, it's scary and it's going to eat your brains ... in a good way. • PSN Thursday: More free Batman DLC, Broken Steel

    09.24.2009

The highlight in this week's PSN Update is that The Bats is back with more free DLC. Also, for Fallout 3 owners not planning to trade up to the "game of the year edition," the single most important piece of DLC for the game, Broken Steel, is now available from the PSN store for $10. For those who don't know, Broken Steel takes away "the ending" of the game and allows the (anti-)hero of the Capital Wasteland to continue their journey with an increased level cap. Check out the full update after the break -- and, sadly, no Trine. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

  • PSN Thursday: Trying to find Trine, but happy in Arkham

Sorry, North America, the Europeans may be trying Trine, but the game isn't coming out this week. There's always the new free content for Arkham Asylum ... there, there, doesn't that just help make the Trine pain melt away? No? Well, there's the picture search game Interpol and the classic Final Fantasy Tactics, along with plenty of other content that may be of interest. Check it all out after the break. • PSN Thursday: In time with Turtles, Silent Hill and George Takei

Oh, my! Although the release of Turtles in Time and Silent Hill on PSN this week is certainly noteworthy, it's the appearance of George Takei in PAIN that takes the cake. The original Star Trek star will be at your disposal to shoot from a canon and ... seriously, why would you want to hurt George Takei? He's awesome! The Andy Dick hurtable PAIN DLC character from a couple weeks back was a far more understandable option. Check out the rest of the update after the break. • PSN Thursday: Capcom's bundles of fun

Sure, there's a new episode of Qore this week (which takes a long look at Uncharted 2), but there's something calling us to the Capcom "super pack." A bundle of eight games for $50: some great, some good ... a couple "meh." Normally we wouldn't consider buying a couple of the titles individually, but something about them being lumped together seems to diminish that feeling -- it's weird marketing voodoo. PSP's Patapon is also available at $15, which is three dollars less than picking up a used copy down at the pawn shop. Check out the rest of the update after the break. Was it worth the wait? Actually, this week's PSN update is rather substantial, offering up The Legend of Han Tao (don't be fooled by its cheesy name, it's not that bad) and several demos worth checking out, including WET getting wild at the top of the list. Let's not overlook the classics either, as PS1's Tomb Raider 2 and SimCity 2000 are both available for $6. There's plenty more content to check out after the break. Finally! You can stop your complaining as the moment you've been waiting for has arrived. Andy Dick is a playable character in PAIN! (Seriously!) To commemorate the release of this much-anticipated add-on, we're going to compile a list of Andy Dick's best jokes. Ready? ...... Okay, we're done. Now, moving on to your regularly scheduled PSN update. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

  • Sony adds PSP access to PlayStation Network video store, 16 new content partners

    06.02.2009

Tucked in between the "worst kept secret" PSP Go and motion control demos at its E3 press conference, Sony also revealed new content for the PlayStation Network video service, and the ability to download video directly to the PSP, no PS3 or PC intermediary needed. No word on when to expect the new content exactly, but it will include video from Showtime Networks, Starz, G4 & E!, Summit Entertainment, The Weinstein Company, HDNet & Magnolia Pictures, Anime Network, Media Blasters, Right Stuf's Nozomi Entertainment, Starz Media's Manga Entertainment, Toei Animation, Viz Media, WEP, UFC, TNA and Video Action Sports. Looks like Sony will have easy on the go access to video store content up and running before Microsoft gets its Zune integration act together, but whether that compares to 1080p instant streaming promises remains to be seen (Hint: first one with direct Hulu access wins, we're just saying, guys.) Check out Sony's trailer embedded after the break.

  • PSP survey hints at game rental service

Click to embiggen A recent survey seeks consumer interest in a PSP game rental service. With the PSP Go all but confirmed a possibility and UMD on its way out, a PSP that takes full advantage of the digital age and the PSN doesn't exactly sound like crazy talk. Plus, there's always going to be a rental market, so why shouldn't Sony take advantage of that?Depending on the terms and price, the idea of a direct rental service sounds like a potentially cost effective option for gamers during these hard economic times. Should it ever come to fruition, that is.[Thanks, MrEverdred01!]

Vogster just announced that its comic book inspired beat-'em-up Unbound Saga is hitting (ow!) exclusively via the PlayStation Store on July 16, bypassing UMD altogether. THWAD! In fact, Mario Kroll, Vogster's director of marketing, called UMD "an unpopular delivery medium." DOUBLE-THAWD! Check out our hands-on New York Comic-Con impressions of the game, which, at the time, didn't really strike us (ow!) as all-that great.

Capcom promised Resident Evil 5's downloadable Versus Mode add-on would be available today, and, wouldn't you know -- it is. More specifically, the controversial DLC, which brings 1-on-1 / 2-on-2 competitive and against-the-Majinji play to the game, is up on both the Xbox Live Marketplace [link] and the PlayStation Store right now.360 owners will have to pony up 400 ($5) for the right to shoot other human players in the face, chest, limbs and no-no zone, while PS3 users can grab the expansion for $4.99 in Real Money(TM).

  • Burnout Paradise 'Legendary Cars' priced

Criterion Games has officially announced the price for the upcoming Legendary Cars DLC for Burnout Paradise. Gamers who hunger for choice can download each vehicle separately or together in a discounted package when they release on February 19. The Jansen 88 Special (you know, the not-so-subtle nod to the DeLorean) is priced at $3.99 / 320, while each of the other three vehicles clock in at $1.99 / 160 a piece. The Legendary bundle will also be available for a discounted price of $7.99 / 640. We know your first reaction would be to get upset that the obvious favorite in the package is priced slightly higher. Think of it as a glimpse into the future. Flying cars are going to be hella expensive. Don't even get get us started on the time traveling or air conditioning options -- we still don't know how those packages aren't on the base models.[Update: Originally we listed the Legendary Cars pack at 600; however, the price is $7.99 / 640]

Savage Moon finally makes an appearance on the American PSN Store this week alongside a smattering of other tasty offerings. PopCap's first PSN release, Bejeweled 2, is available as well as a pretty decent amount of LittleBigPlanet downloadable content. There are also the normal rhythm-based add-ons and Burnout Paradise's price has been dropped to only $19.99. At that price you'd have to be insane not to pick it up. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: PS3 / PSP (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists; Euro releases here.)

No joke, writing this post about today's PSN update put the fear of Alma into us. In the parlance of the lolcats: she was in r computr, hackin r sistems. Every imaginable glitch that could go wrong ... did, but three hours later it's finally complete. This week, you can check out the demos for F.E.A.R. 2 and WipEout HD. There's all the standard rhythm game DLC and a special premium treat for all the slacker Skate 2 players out there. The full North American PSN update is after the break. PS3 Fanboy has the European PSN update, which finally adds Penny Arcade Adventures: Episode 1. Wow, was Alma messing with their system too?

PSN exclusive Noby Noby Boy is ready to wrap itself around your wallet and suck out $5 on February 19. Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi helmed this title -- and even after watching videos, we still have nary a clue about what's going on in it.Even stranger than the gameplay of Noby Noby Boy is the meta-game going on among all the players. Namco Bandai explains that "players collaborate to unlock new game stages." As players stretch "Boy" in their individual games, an entity known as "Girl" is growing according to the combined length of all the players in the world. As Girl reaches certain milestones, those stages will be unlocked for everyone around the world. It's not clear if that means they'll be available as part of the game or as DLC. 01.15.2009

Get ready to bust some balls stuff with balls when Magic Ball releases on PSN January 15th (also known as "today") for $10. The Arkanoid-style wall buster features "two visual themes" -- Pirates and Knights (we speculate a Ninja DLC pack can't be too far behind) -- with really beautiful, "completely destructible" 3D environments. Each of the levels also has "its own mini-story scenes."Magic Ball features "a vast number" of Trophies and in-game multiplayer chat. According to the game's producer, the title apparently received a difficulty upgrade during testing to avoid it feeling too casual. Magic Ball should be available in North America when the PSN updates later today (it's available right now in Europe). Gallery: Magic Ball
