It's a big week for PSN users, as two highly-anticipated downloadable games emerged on Sony's service today. Astute headline readers already know what we're talking about: Infamous 2: Festival of Blood and PixelJunk Sidescroller. In addition to the downloadable titles, there's a single-player demo for Resistance 3 to check out, some Gran Turismo 5 DLC and other goodies you can read all about over on the PlayStation Blog.

Yeah, okay. It's Wednesday, haha, we get it. But it's not our fault! Sony didn't even release it until early this morning. Moreover: please, don't pretend you didn't call in sick yesterday so you could play more Arkham City. You're honestly going to begrudge us being late on this one thing? You monsters. This week doesn't see quite the onslaught of new stuff that last week did, but man, there are a ton of add-ons for your existing games to make up for it. Seriously. A lot of add-ons. • PSN Tuesday: Portal 2 DLC, PS2 Classics

There's new stuff on PSN today, most prominently that freebie Portal 2 DLC. But there's also an absurd wealth of old stuff! There's a new version of Crysis, HD Dreamcast ports (Sega Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5 Part 2), the PSOne port of Chrono Trigger, and five PS2 games -- including Clover Studio's brutally difficult, equally strange cult hit God Hand. • PSN Tuesday: Rochard, Resident Evil Code Veronica X HD

The PSN-exclusive Rochard brings its particular brand of physics-based puzzles and ol' fashioned space mining to the PlayStation 3, including a 20% PlayStation Plus discount for the next two weeks. If what you're looking for is something that's actually old-fashioned, might we suggest Resident Evil Code Veronica X HD which, despite how fondly you remember the Dreamcast original, doesn't look as good as you remember it. • PSN Tuesday: BloodRayne Betrayal, Rugby 2011

PSN Play continues with BloodRayne Betrayal, which is excellent -- and not just excellent for a BloodRayne game. It's joined by a game with a more "retail-equivalent" price, and likely no less violence: Rugby 2011. In addition, there are demos for both, as well as the public debut of the God of War Origins demo and some nice price drops on Aksys games, including BlazBlue on PSP. What a crowded week! PlayStation Network PLAY continues with The Baconing, while the PS3 sees releases of Elevator Action Deluxe, the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, and more outside of the promotion. If you're a Plus user, you'll have an Assassin's Creed Revelations beta and a God of War Origins demo to play. Even the PSP has a new original game this week, ClaDun X2, and permanent price drops on some cool Square Enix games. Let's just hope the maintenance clears up soon so we can get all this stuff. The first game in the PlayStation Network PLAY promotion, Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition is available now on PSN. As we said in our review, the fighter retains its core gameplay mechanics, but still manages to be the best version of the Third Strike. Don't believe us? Check out the demo, also available now. Another demo worth shooting, er, booting up is Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine. If not for yourself, do it for the Emperor. The latest PSN update is a few hours tardy, but it's not completely without its charms. Fans of old, old games can grab Medal of Honor Frontline for $15, and Breath of Fire IV from the PSOne Classics storefront for $6. If you prefer something a tad less ancient, there's also a multiplayer demo for Driver: San Francisco in the mix. PSN delivers a fistful of discounts this week on Red Dead Redemption DLC, with Undead Nightmare a reanimated steal at $5. If you're looking for more modern sandbox experiences, GTA IV's The Ballad Of Gay Tony and The Lost And Damned are $10 and $5, respectively. In the demo department, don't miss out on passing the ball around with Madden NFL 12 and trying out Driver: San Francisco's single-player demo. PSN brings the "dakka" this week with Warhammer 40K: Kill Team, a competent attempt at THQ taking the license into the twin-stick shooter genre. For something less bullet-based, check out ... wait, Galaga Legions DX is just as full of pew-pew action, if not more. Resident Evil 5 DLC is deeply discounted this week; you can grab it for about $15. We know it's frustrating. Your 360-owning friends have been out there playing Deadliest Warrior: Legends for weeks, and they won't stop talking about all the limbs they've chopped off! Hopefully, by the time you download it from PSN there will still be some limbs left, even if it's just a few errant left arms. Dragon Age 2: Legacy also arrives this week, but you've got equal access to the limbs there: Make sure you get your fair share. Give in to Limbo with this week's PSN update. One of the best games of 2010, Limbo is finally available on PSN for $15. PS Plus members can pick it up for $12. Another sweet deal is all of Borderlands (including DLC) for $20, $15 for PS Plus members. One of the best games of 2009, Borderlands melded an open-world FPS with Diablo-style loot drops for an addictive combination. Explore past the break for all the details on this week's update. The PSN update is mostly about fast cars and deep discounts this week. Burnout Paradise is a mere $8 now, with many of its DLC packs slashed to $2. Not to be outdone, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit packs have also been reduced by almost half. Meanwhile, some Capcom PSP games, including Power Stone Collection and Ultimate Ghosts N' Goblins, are a scant $5. Race on past the break for this week's update details. • PSN Tuesday: Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta is here

    by

    06.28.2011

Today's PSN update marks the beginning of the PlayStation Plus-exclusive Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta. However, PlayStation Plus membership was offered as part of the "Welcome Back" package, meaning the "exclusive" beta is not so exclusive. In fact, it's essentially open to everyone using the PS Store (if they've activated those free memberships -- you only have until July 3 to do so), so there will be a lot of people rushing to download the beta. Basically, what we're saying is that something given away after a PSN outage is about to knock the PSN out again, jeopardizing your ability to get Beyond Good and Evil HD. Check out all the DLC for this week after the break. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

Okay, now it's just too quiet. The PSN update is lean this week. There's the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow "Resurrection" DLC, a nice discount on Bionic Commando: Rearmed 1 & 2, a Virtua Tennis 4 Move demo and some other random goodies. Overall, though, not a major update. However, despite the lack of content in this week's update, we definitely hope you've picked up your free games and free PlayStation Plus membership from the "Welcome Back" program by now. July 3 is the deadline, so don't dilly-dally if you haven't grabbed them. Find all of this week's DLC past the break. You hear that? Listen ... it's almost calm. Almost normal. The regularly scheduled PSN update returns this week, following an extended hiatus that manifested itself in a content deluge slightly before E3 and throughout the week of gaming madness. There are plenty of things to check out in this update, but it's probably worth repeating that you should grab those free games. Free games? Yeah, the free games and free PlayStation Plus membership you get as part of the "Welcome Back" program. You've only got until July 3, so get it out of the way now. Casually stroll past the break for all this week's DLC. • Multiple PlayStation Store updates coming each week until caught up

If you've been keeping score, we've missed out on three regularly scheduled PlayStation Store updates since the service went down last month, preventing users from downloading items like the already long-delayed PSN RTS Under Siege. There's a lot of content to get caught up on -- and to get us there, the storefront will receive updates "multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored," according to the latest PlayStation Blog FAQ. "We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration," adds the FAQ, "as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs." If you're the type who likes to spend exorbitant sums of money on each batch of PSN additions, you might want to steel yourself for the oncoming deluge.
