  • Alan Wake on Oct. 1, so says Amazon

Alright fanboys, get our your spoons and scoop up a big dose of skeptical sauce, Amazon has pinned a release date on Alan Wake. Yes, that Alan Wake. The same Alan Wake that currently rests in a state of media blackout. The same Alan Wake that we knew hardly anything about before the media blackout. Amazon, in all its prescient wisdom, has slapped a release date of October 1 on the game and is accepting preorders. How much weight are we putting behind this date? Considering the circumstances (blackout, remember), we'd say we're hovering just above zero. That said, Alan Wake is ostensibly a survival horror game, so an October release date would at least make sense ('cause of Halloween, get it?). We'll see.[Thanks, th3th0mas]

Wow, rumors spec and general vagueness doesn't last long these days as we already have an update to the Alan Wake media blackout story we posted a few hours ago. Earlier, we reported that an Alan Wake "Super Moderator" said that the information and media blackout would be ending sometime soon, and we took it as if he knew some insider stuff. Well, that isn't the case. ADM, the forum tech director, jumped in to clear the air saying that the previous remarks are "not 'news' and we don't know when the media blackout is to end" and recommends to "be patient and when we do know something we will post it up at brightfalls.net or here. Don't read into comments too much." To be fair, Morry (the original news maker) did clarify his previous remarks calling it an "innocent comment".So, there you have it. Nobody really knows the exact time-frame for when Microsoft or Remedy will unveil Alan Wake in all its glory. We have speculation, a few best guesses and in all reality, we should be getting some information soon if Alan Wake is still on track for a 2008 release. Our guess is E3 and we don't need a forum mod's approval to say that.

  • Alan Wake 'media blackout' still in effect [Update 1]

Update: From the moderator: "I do not know when the blackout will end ... When we hear anything from Remedy or Microsoft regarding any kind of new information, we will post it loud and clear. There are no tricks up our sleeves at the moment." Original post is still below. When was the last time you heard anything concrete about Alan Wake? (Aside from when it announced that it wasn't canceled, of course.) Other than a confirmed 2008 release window, the last details we got from the game look to be from September 2006. That's what makes this posting from the official Alan Wake forums, from "Super Moderator" Morry, so tantalizing. Responding to a thread aptly titled "Still no updates, its 2008 for crying out loud" (sic), Morry said, "Patience. The media 'blackout' won't continue for too much longer."We're hoping that's not a relative phrasing of "too much longer," as it's been almost 19 months since the last scrap of information.[Via X3F]

We're sure some of you are probably starting to think that the longtime announced, yet detail sparse Alan Wake has become vaporware by now. True, a 2008 release has been confirmed, but where are the informative bits and the huge media blowout? Well, according to a "Super Moderator" over on the official Alan Wake forums, all of our Alan Wake curiosities shall be fulfilled. Super mod Morry popped in a forum discussion about the lack of Alan Wake news in 2008 saying "Patience. The media "blackout" won't continue for too much longer." Hopefully our patience will hold strong, because we want to see what Remedy has created and we want to see now.[Via NeoGAF]

  • New Alan Wake Screens and details

There were a couple new screenshots of Remedy's Alan Wake released, along with some new info. The psychological thriller's gameplay is going to be dependent on the weather and time of day, as the nightmarish creatures you face off against grow more powerful in the shadows. Coupled with the fact that the hours of daylight per day diminishes over time, so you're going to have to make use of your own light sources to help fend off baddies. The game is touted as being hyper-realistic, but so far the latest screenshots don't exactly hold up to that statement. You can be the judge after the break.

  • News flash: Microsoft still publishing Alan Wake

The gaming blogosphere has been absolutely abuzz over the past few days over reports that Remedy's psychological thriller Alan Wake has been picked up by Microsoft and will be published exclusively on the Xbox 360 and PC. This story isn't odd because it's untrue, it's odd because we've known about it for months. While Microsoft announced a publishing deal with Finland's Remedy Entertainment back at E3 2006, the relationship is getting a new focus now thanks to an article in Finland's Helsingin Sanomat. While there's nothing really newsworthy in the article, it does take an interesting look at the challenges of an American company working with a Finnish developer. But that headline doesn't really pop, so we'll follow the lead of our blogging brethren and hype up some news that was already old six months ago. Hooray!

It looks like the long awaited Remedy title, Alan Wake, is about to become even longer awaited. TVG is reporting that the latest issue of OXM declares that Alan Wake won't hit retail shelves until 2008. The news is sure to upset all the fans who have received only occasional scraps about the game since it was first announced. It's really a shame, too, because the 360 is extremely short on survival horror titles. Here's hoping we see Silent Hill 5 before 2008.Are you looking forward to Alan Wake even though we know next to nothing about it?[Via Joystiq]

TVG reports that US Official Xbox Magazine has published news of further Alan Wake delays. According to the publication, Remedy's psychological thriller has been pushed back to 2008.The first details about Alan Wake surfaced back in April 2005 when Remedy revealed it was working on a new title for PC and "next generation" consoles. Since that time, Microsoft has secured exclusive-console rights to the game.

Admittedly, we know very little about Remedy's Alan Wake. Officially, all we have to go on is the trailer that was released at E3, some screenshots, and its designation as a "psychological action thriller." Do we have new information today? No, but we do have three more screenshots. In fact, if you look closely at the screenshot above, we can actually confirm one new feature in Alan Wake: driving! Yup, the above screen shows all the right signs that the main character is, in fact, driving a car. Oh the possibilities! Sarcasm aside, we're really curious about Alan Wake, so we'll take what we can get. See the new shots (and the old shots) at the official site.[Via TeamXbox]Udpate: Oops, changed crappy placeholder headline.

Yeah, we know. It's not exactly a news flash that developers will be revealing new info about their games at X06, but we're particularly interested in Alan Wake, Remedy's take on Stephen King style horror. In a recent forum post at the Alan Wake website, Remedy staff member, SamivRMD, posted the following:"For once in a lifetime there might be some new info popping up any moment now... :) ... Oh wait, it's not next week yet."Definite confirmation from an employee in the know, or hopeful speculation from an employee without a clue? Either way, at least we're guaranteed to get a theme.[Via K1lla's Xbox Domain]

Worthplaying has posted some Stephen King style screens of Remedy's upcoming author simulator, Alan Wake. The screens showcase the game's creepy seaside town, complete with lighthouse and questionable bridge construction. A game about a sleepless horror writer getting a taste of his own fiction, Alan Wake is currently one of the more interesting titles on the way to 360. Hit the read link for more screens. Microsoft has released a series of new Alan Wake screenshots, but did not accompany the images with new game details. Since scooping up exclusivity rights several months ago in a deal with Remedy, Microsoft has remained decidedly tight-lipped about this promising psychological thriller.A short teaser was aired at E3 and new images have continued to trickle out in small batches, but we still know next to nothing about Alan Wake's gameplay -- and for that matter, when we can expect its arrival.

A forum poster at PlayStation.com stumbled upon these screenshots of the upcoming next-gen title Alan Wake, being developed by Remedy. Alan Wake is a psychological (not physiological) thriller about an insomniac horror writer living in a small town in the Pacific Northwest. IGN says "the game features a massive, open world for the players to explore, with mission based exploration in the single player adventure." This is looking like it's still a ways off, but the screens sure are pretty.[Via Gaming-360]
