Major Nelson has informed us that a 360 system update is being released today. He also -- somewhat depressingly -- informs us that today's update is not the Fall Update. Actually, that seems rather fitting as, unless we are mistaken, it is not yet fall. So, what in the world does this magical update do? Quite simple really, it adds support for the spiffy new controller that comes with Scene-It. The controller with the giant, candy colored button, remember? Yeah, that one. Anywho, the update is being rolled out now so that the Microsoft ninjas have a chance to test out the device on retail Xboxen. You know, to see if they explode or something. So, don't panic -- and don't get excited either -- when you're prompted to download the update the next time you log into live.

While many X3F readers wail at the thought of the Xbox 360 receiving more casual, Wii-inspired games, there can be no doubt that there is a ton of money to be made in the casual market. This fact has been made abundantly clear by the success of the Wii and DS. Microsoft evidently has taken notice, and announced during its E3 press conference that an Xbox 360 version of the movie trivia game, Scene-It is in the works. In addition to featuring new interactive features, more puzzles, clips, and questions, the Xbox 360 version will also include a new controller. The controller design is (shockingly) very, very simple. It resembles a buzzer with a large colored button at the top and the four standard 360 buttons aligned vertically underneath. The concept, obviously, is that a player would "buzz in" by pressing the large button and then select and answer with A, B, X, or Y. Also revealed, the game will include four of these controllers while maintaining the standard retail price of most 360 titles. Whether or not these unique controllers will be utilized outside of Scene-It remains to be, um, seen.

While Microsoft's E3 announcement of "Scene It?" for the Xbox 360 wasn't exactly awe inspiring, there are some brand new casual gaming controllers packed with the title that certainly perked us up. Details are slim at the moment, but four of the simplistic clickers will be included with the game. This could be Microsoft's Trojan Horse to battle against Wii's stranglehold on the casual gaming market -- particularly if the remotes include motion sensing within, which hasn't even been hinted at yet -- or could just be a nice freebie to make "Scene It?" a bit more accessible. We figure we'll know more soon enough. There's another pic after the break.

In yet another attempt to capture the casual games market, Microsoft has announced an Xbox Live version of the popular movie DVD game, Scene It. The Xbox 360 version of the movie trivia game will include four ridiculously-designed controllers for use with the game: it looks akin to a "hideously mutated" remote with a much-too-large red button for play -- all at the same cost as a typical retail game. Considering the popularity of other casual titles on the system, such as Uno, the game will most likely harness an audience of hardcore movie buffs.
