Today, Capcom revealed a big box of collectible Street Fighter fun, the Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition. According to the press release, the Collector's Edition will be made available in Europe and Australia (no U.S. release seems suspect) and will include the game, a bonus disc featuring an HD quality anime movie and game trailers, a mini-strategy guide, exclusive downloadable content and two mini figures of Ryu and newcomer Crimson Viper. Even cooler is that all the bonus content comes housed in a diorama-like scene from the classic Street Fighter. RYU-KICK! Limited edition figurines of all time favourite character Ryu and the all new character Crimson Viper, positioned within the familiar settings of the 'crowded Chinese downtown'. A bonus disc containing a feature length HD quality anime movie, created specially for the launch of Street Fighter IV and a selection of the best game trailers to date. A mini strategy guide created in the style of a comic art book detailing the moves and biographies of four of the new characters to the series; Viper, Abel, El Fuerte and Rufus Exclusive downloadable game content.

Just a little while ago, Capcom made an OMG MEGATON announcement regarding Street Fighter IV, confirming that February 17th will be the game's official release in North America and February 20th for our friends in Europe. That means Capcom's Winter release promise has been fulfilled. That also means that the Gamestop rumored February 2nd release date was a tad bit off. No matter, February will be the month of Street Fighter and the month of total awesomeness! [Via Joystiq]

While fighting game fans know they must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance, players in Japan will soon be able to try from the comfort of their couch. Dengeki Online reports that Capcom plans to release the console versions of Street Fighter IV in February 2009, with a feature-length SFIV anime directed by Akira animator Koji Morimoto given away as a preorder bonus. Interestingly, while this announcement currently only pertains to Japan, it echoes an earlier report which indicated that the game and its console-specific roster would "definitely" hurricane kick its way to Western audiences sometime this winter, most likely alongside the upcoming Chun-Li-focused Street Fighter film. Could a global launch announcement be far behind?[Via GameSpot]

In a statement to G4, Street Fighter IV producer Yoshi Ono made mention that the next Street Fighter installment will be storming retailers sometime this Winter. "At some point you'll be sitting in you winter coat looking at snow out the window ... and right then we'll kind of heat you up a little with some hot street fighter action," said Ono. "We don't want to start rumors that it's this year, but definitely this winter."So, whether it's late 2008 or early 2009, SFIV is on its way to the 360 when there's snow on the ground. That is, if you live in a colder climate where it actually snows.[Via Shacknews]

Fighting games have made a big comeback, and the evidence was clearly seen at TGS this year. Tekken 6's announcement for home consoles is one of the bigger stories on the show floor this year. (Probably because there wasn't that much else happening ...) Capcom's revival of the Street Fighter franchise in SFIV looks rather exciting, and the TGS trailer offers excited fans over three minutes of anime and fighting footage.

Recently, Capcom unveiled the box art for a little game known as Street Fighter IV, surprising us with not one but TWO different covers. Yes sir, SFIV will actually sport two separate box art covers, one for the United States and another for Europe. And if you look above, you'll see both covers in all their glory. The left is U.S. The right is Europe. Looks to us like the U.S. got screwed.

Unlike a certain soulless fighting game, Capcom's Street Fighter 4 will not be doing console specific fighters due to it not being "very fair". In an interview with videogamer.com, SF4 producer Yoshinori Ono mentioned that they don't "want to give an exclusive character for any particular console," saying that "it's not very fair" to make specific fighters only available on certain platforms. And if your mind is already wandering down the downloadable content path, know that Ono says their decision to not offer console specific SF4 fighters is a rule for DLC as well. So, take that Yoda and SoulCalibur IV ... YEAH![Via Shacknews]

Patrick Aiello, the producer for the upcoming film Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (starring Kristin "Lana Lang" Kreuk!), believes Street Fighter IV will launch alongside the film. Aiello tells GameDaily that the "film and game release dates will coincide." According to IMDB, the Street Fighter movie currently has a release date of February 27, 2009.Although hardcore Street Fighter fans may be upset that the game isn't coming out at the end of this year as originally announced, there's always the option of playing it in arcades at diverse locations on this little planet.%Gallery-21918%

Capcom's Seth Killian has posted a friendly note for fighting fans on the official Capcom blog, reminding us that Street Fighter IV begins hitting Japanese arcades the week of July 21. Not all that helpful for those of stuck in the States. Thankfully, "S-KILL" also has the lowdown on where and when the general public can experience the game for themselves on this side of the Pacific. The final coin-op version of SFIV will be playable July 24-27 at San Diego Comic-Con and at the Evolution 2008 fighting game competition finals in Las Vegas from August 8-10. As an added bonus for EVO 2008 attendees, Capcom will have the latest build of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on hand as well.%Gallery-21918%

These posters are such beauties, and we want them. Unfortunately, they are in Japan. A black one with an orange IV logo features Ryu with new characters Crimson Viper, Abel, El Fuerte and Rufus. An orange one with a black IV logo features old favorites Guile, Ken and Chun-Li. Capcom-Unity blogger Kramez has two pictures of the Street Fighter IV posters held up by SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono. Another one after the jump. Check them out and drool.[Via Capcom-Unity]

Recurring rumors have been flying about for some time now concerning the possible release of Street Fighter IV on the Wii. It was never a long shot to hope the port would be made, but producer Yoshinori Ono pretty much summed it up speaking at Capcom's Captivate 08: "The fact of the matter is we haven't planned for a Wii version yet." Plans? Since when is this planning thing important for game development? Well, Ryu's totally badass Shoryuken is always unplanned, and comes out of nowhere when you least expect it. Maybe when the time is right, we'll get a face full of hard-hitting SFIV Wii news. For now ... no plans.

It's the "epic return" of Street Fighter, according to Capcom's newest TV spot. We don't know how we feel about the use of Faith no More's appropriately-titled "Epic" as the trailer music, but using any popular music does seem to make a game more appealing to the mainstream. There isn't any new footage to be found in this brief trailer, but it makes us happy to finally see the PLAYSTATION 3 logo at the end of anything SFIV-related. %Gallery-21874%

The font of incredible trailers continues to pour from the bounteous spigot of CAPtivate '08 -- the above trailer for Street Fighter IV went live rather subtly last night, only to deliver a patented E. Honda "thousand hand bitch slap" to our unprepared senses this Sunday morning. It even includes one of our favorite songs to sing from Rock Band: Faith No More's "Epic". We don't know why seeing Blanka go all sparky to the disjointed vocals of Mike Patton gets us so hyped, but our excitement for the revivification of what many would argue is the greatest arcade fighting series ever has just increased tenfold. However, it should be noted that depending on your feelings towards Gamestop and their pre-order policies, you may view the last seven seconds of this righteous trailer as being decidedly un-epic.

Following this morning's news that the recently announced home versions of Street Fighter IV would come packing the extra punch of online play and an expanded cast, a new report confirms two familiar fighters who will be added to the game's hurricane kick beyond the arcade. According to IGN, Japanese publication Famitsu Xbox released concept art illustrating Bruce Lee-inspired Fei Long and Alpha vet Dan Hibiki, adding that both fighters will be home version exclusives. While Fei Long certainly makes sense, the laughably weak Dan has always served more as comic relief, though we look forward to the hilariously drawn out Dan vs. Dan online throw downs to come when the game is eventually released.

It seems the home console versions of Street Fighter IV are going to be where it's at. Japan's Famitsu magazine squeezed the information out of the game's producer, Yoshinori Ono, in a recent interview. The console versions will allow you to play against friends via online modes as well as add in some console-exclusive characters. We aren't sure if this means "console specific" like Soul Calibur IV, but some of the exclusive characters have recently been confirmed as Dan and Fei Long. Oh, Dan. You are so very weird. There's also a list of five new characters up on Famitsu, but these aren't console-specific characters, we don't think.

Gone are the days when arcades represented the superior video game experience. While a part of us may cry coin operated tears at this realization, Capcom is quick to remind us that there is even more fun to be had at home, or at least there will be when the recently announced domesticated flavor of Street Fighter IV is released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Speaking in an interview with Japan's Weekly Famitsu, producer Yoshinori Ono revealed that the home version of the upcoming fighter will include features not found in the arcade original, among them online play and exclusive characters. As we've come to expect from our Street Fighter IV news, Ono offered few specifics, saying only that the team is "watching the overall balance" in designing additions to the home version's roster. He added that the devs "won't be adding unnecessary stuff" to the online experience, dashing our dreams of an internet thumb war between Blanka and Chun Li.

  • Rumor: Street Fighter IV heading to PS3, Xbox 360, PC this winter

Since announcing Street Fighter IV, Capcom has given us a number of things to ponder about the upcoming sequel, from 3D graphics to giant thumbs, but one thing the company hasn't given us is a release date, not to mention where exactly we'll be able to play the game once it finally makes its way to retail. However this may be about to change, as according to French blog Jeuxvideo, Capcom recently made mention on a press site that the fighter is headed to the PS3, Xbox 360, and -- surprisingly -- the PC as well, with all three versions slated to hurricane kick retail shelves this winter.Unfortunately, the site neglected to link to the press site in question, and Joystiq ninjas have since returned from Capcom's press tower with nothing to show for their trouble, leaving us to flag this particular morsel of information as a rumor, albeit one we'd very much like to come true. While Capcom's Street Fighter IV wowed us in February with its new fangled graphics and animation, it was the game's decidedly retro feel that grabbed us by the neck and assaulted our head like a barrage of Yoga Noogies. As it turned out, for all its 3D charm the fighter played like a sexed up Street Fighter II, which to be fair is just fine by us.Now Capcom has released screenshots of Street Fighter II's bad guy quartet, Balrog, Bison, Sagat and Vega, all of whom make a return in the upcoming sequel. We can hardly wait to face down Vega's (or M. Bison for those of you with a name hang up) ever-annoying Psycho Crusher, something judging by the above pic has Ryu equally enthused.%Gallery-21918%

  • Chun-Li's massive hands cause for concern in Street Fighter IV

Criticisms of the visual style of Street Fighter IV are a dime a dozen, ranging from gripes about exaggerated facial expressions to attacks on the, erm, girth of Chun-Li's thigh muscles. Now, it seems that the poor Chinese Interpol agent is once again under attack, though this time for the bizarre proportions of her hands.A few new art shots on Capcom's official Street Fighter IV website have caught the attention of 1UP's Kris Pigna, who's become mono-maniacally focused on the portrayal of Chun-Li's appendages. We have to admit, the above image has given us pause as well. Not only is her one hand abnormally large -- and featuring a bizarre growth between her thumb and forefinger -- but her other hand is downright monstrous, with thick calloused digits and yellowed fingernails. Let's just hope this is an artistic snafu, and not some crazy new backstory about Chun-Li's mutant transformation.
