It's been a long weekend, void of no new information regarding one of the three biggest titles to hit the Wii this year. As we come back to work, it's nice to see the Dojo has updated us with a new character bio. Aside from her updated design, nothing particularly new is revealed, but at least we have new screens to gawk at.You can check them out in the gallery below.%Gallery-3347%

  • Believe it or not: Zelda in Smash Bros Brawl

We apologize if this news is just a bit too intense for your Monday morning slump, but we thought you'd like to know that the Princess of Hyrule herself, Zelda, is a playable character in Super Smash Bros Brawl. A completely and utterly unexpected twist to be sure, we're just glad to have had the luxury of sitting down upon receiving this news. The virtual high-fives accounted for, it's time for the community to get down to business -- nitpicking.Where were you when Fox McCloud's nose changed colors from black to brown? You mean you don't remember? Oh, well then you probably won't even realize that Zelda's hair color appears differently by a few shades. More like some missing highlights, but that hasn't stopped a bunch of folks from flying off the handle over it. We expect your petition by the end of the day.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

While battling atop space ships in the Lylat system is nothing new to the Smash Bros. franchise, the revised stage looks a lot better. Now, the ship warps to different sectors, making its way through epic space battles and even the atmosphere of Corneria. Heck, maybe we won't be battling exclusively in Hyrule anymore, with such a promising looking stage as this.Check out all of the new Lylat Cruise stage images in the gallery below.%Gallery-3347%

Another Dojo update hits, bringing us a better look at newcomer Wario and resident cheap jerk Fox. We got an intimate look at Pikachu's Final Smash the other day, but with Fox and his reflection, and Wario with his gigantic bite, we think Pokemon's resident rat thing is going to have a tough time in this installment in the franchise. As usual, you can check out some images of Wario and Fox in action through our gallery below.%Gallery-3347%Read - Fox move listRead - Wario bio

Today's Dojo update brings us screens of Pikachu's Final Smash maneuver the Volt Tackle. Much like Link's Triforce Slash, it looks like it'll be putting quite the hurting on Pikachu's foes. Unlike Link's maneuver, however, is the difficulty of controlling it. While in mid-air, if the Volt Tackle is interrupted, you'll lose control of the little yellow bastard (we find him to be so cheap) and could possibly fall to your death.Catch an eye full of Pikachu's Volt Tackle in the gallery below.%Gallery-3347%

Back when the Final Smash item was revealed to us, we thought such a change would be good for the game. When we delved deeper into the news, we found out Mario turned into a total badass when he got the Final Smash item. Well, now the same can be said for Link as today's Dojo update showcases the Final Smash for Hyrule's hero. Utilizing the power of the Triforce, Link traps his enemy and lets loose slash after slash from the Master Sword. You can see images of Link's Final Smash in action in the gallery below.%Gallery-3347%

Holy freaking crap. Does Samus not look absolutely amazing?! The detail on her suit, it's shine ... oh man, we're pumped (mostly because she's our favorite character). Aside from that, she's pretty much the same Samus we all know and love. Crates and barrels also get shoved into the spotlight. Turns out, they change appearance depending on the stage they occupy. Sounds like a nice cosmetic change to us.Be sure to check out new images of Samus, as well as the barrels and crates, in the gallery below.%Gallery-3347%Read - Crates and barrelsRead - Samus bio

  • Smash Bros blog shows seasonal stages, sliding barrels, Samus

Since revealing -- but not detailing -- four ways to control the game, the Smash Bros. Brawl blog has continued with its Monday through Friday updates to show off itty-bitty portions of the game at a time. A snippet from the Metroid: Boss Battle music, a newly-dressed Fox, and an updated Yoshi's island stage that changes season during battle. For the first time, shots of Samus Aran were shown. It's not really surprising to see a fan favorite from the last two iterations return, and the published images give no hints as to new or revised special moves.Perhaps the most entertaining update concerns crates and barrels. The rugged item boxes of old will now have thematic skins based on the stage (e.g. they look like presents when playing on Yoshi's island stage), and crates have gained the ability to slide when thrown. "Be careful and make sure you don't get knocked for a loop by a box madly rushing downhill," said the entry. That has to add a few points for the game on the tried-and-true Crate Review System.

The Dojo has updated again, bringing us a character profile for that cheap jerk Fox and an in-depth look into Yoshi's Island. The character bio on Fox is old hat, but Yoshi's Island is receiving some changes this time around. As the battle progresses, the seasons will change, tossing dead leaves and snow about the ply area. Aside from that, the central platform will tilt and move around. You can see some images of Fox, as well as Yoshi's Island, in the gallery below.%Gallery-3347%Read - Yoshi's IslandRead - Fox

  • Four different controller options for Super Smash Bros.

    06.08.2007

Today's Smash Bros. blog update provided two things we've all been waiting for since the countdown went up: New information of any kind The controller the game will use. Those of you who said they'd adapt the game to Wiimote/Nunchuk play were right. Those of you who said they'd keep the Gamecube controller compatibility: you were right. Those of you who said it would use the Classic Controller: you were also right. Those of you who said you could play the game with a Wiimote turned on its side: if you existed, you would have been right as well.We had cooled on the subject of Smash Bros., but now we're as excited as we were when we saw Snake pop out of that box. Not only is this going to extend the life of the game (by allowing players to master four different methods of control) but it is also going to allow for different styles of play, and therefore more variety in strategy and technique.

Don't be surprised if heated debates over Smash Bros. Brawl character supremacy take on a terrifying new dimension now that it's been confirmed on the official blog that all Wii-compatible remotes will work with the game. "Sure, Kirby can beat Meta Knight if everybody's using GameCube controllers," the clerk at your local EB Games might say, "but you don't even understand Kirby until you've turned the Wiimote on its side, that's his spinach."If you're puzzling over what does what exactly, keep wondering -- director Masahiro Sakurai is staying mum. He does admit though that he prefers the GameCube controller because he "like[s] the feel of that powerful rumble." ... Wow, we didn't mean to end the post all creepy, sorry, we'll change the subject. So, how are you planning on playing?[Thanks to everybody who sent this in.]

The Smash Bros. Dojo updated again, providing a few biographies on some familiar faces in the franchise. Taking a look at both Kirby and Pikachu, it's revealed that they both haven't changed much from the last game. We find that to be a very good think in Kirby's case, but we're not so sure about Pikachu. We found that every single person who used them couldn't help but be the cheapest player ever. The Smash Bros. Brawl website has been keeping true to its promise of daily updates. Since the Final Smash post, the blog has shown a new map (Delfino Plaza), a new weapon (the unfortunately-named Cracker Launcher) and the ability to now move while shooting. One interesting note in the description of the Cracker Launcher, essentially a Roman candle, is how you can "aim the launcher at different angles by tilting the Control Stick up or down." The mention of the control stick sounds like a reaffirmation of series creator Masahiro Sakurai's statement at the game's unveiling to keep the game compatible with GameCube controllers -- then again, it could also be a reference to the joystick on the Nunchuk attachment. The constant stream of a news, coupled with earlier comments from Hideo Kojima, indicate that the game is coming along well. Here's hoping we'll get a release date (and some hands-on impressions) at Min-E3.

The DOJO has been steadily updating, giving us a glimpse into some of the game's new items, new stages and new characters. Oh, and there was the Final Smash maneuver, as well. Now, we get yet another new item and stage, as the site reveals Delfino Plaza and the Cracker Launcher.Delfino Plaza is a rotating stage, where players start on a platform and revolve around the Plaza, landing and taking back off every so often. As you can imagine, it looks exactly as it does in Super Mario Sunshine, with several of the locales easily recognized in the screens. Personally, we never enjoyed the moving stages much (battling on Hyrule is where it's at!).As for the new item, the Cracker Launcher is a large tube-like weapon. Upon picking it up, it'll constantly fire until its ammo is depleted. It fires large bursts of fireworks that explode in large areas and, with the ability to tilt the aim high and low as well as move about while firing and aiming, looks to be quite the weapon.Check both the new stage and weapon out in our gallery below.%Gallery-3347%Read - Delfino Plaza stageRead - Cracker Launcher weapon

  • Rumors: Mario Kart Wii, dates for Smash and Galaxy at E3

French gaming site JeuxFrance is reporting on a few rumors involving the house that N built, mostly revolving around a portly plumber. They're stating that Nintendo is planning on whipping out some big guns at the show, revealing the next installment in the Mario Kart franchise for the Wii, as well as solid release dates for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Galaxy. As if that weren't enough, they're also reporting that Nintendo will have some big hardware news for us.Maybe they're going to reveal a headset add-on for the Wiimote? As for the other rumors, it's a safe bet that Nintendo will be giving us the goods on release dates for its hottest games this year, already providing us a release date for one of this year's most anticipated games, but the Mario Kart news is anyone's guess. It would make sense for Nintendo to bring a Mario Kart game to the Wii, but is the timing right?

The DOJO has updated with a new item called the Final Smash today, revealing what we're assuming is an insta-kill item in the game. It's referred to as a "kind of like a powerful and personalized hammer." So, after one obtains the item, they can then perform their character's personal own Final Smash maneuver, which should allow them to send an opponent (or perhaps opponents?) flying from the map to their death. And as you scroll down the page further, you'll see Mario in his Final Smash form. Remember when he shoots that huge fireball in all the videos we've seen for the game? Yeah, that's his Final Smash move.%Gallery-3347%

It's been about a week since we last checked in on the Super Smash Bros. Brawl site, so we thought it was time for a quick recap that inevitably devolves into a flame war about the relative merits of the Wii. First off, there's been new character information released on a couple of old friends and one new face: Pit, of Kid Icarus fame. As you probably could have guessed, Pit's special moves include limited flight and firing steerable arrows. There are also some new items being profiled too. The one that looks most like candy (it's not) is the Gooey Bomb, a sticky explosive just begging for a rich varnish of innuendo during all-night gaming sessions. Also, characters can now collect a Final Smash orb that let's them perform a super attack of some sort (you can see Mario's in our picture). Perhaps director Masahiro Sakurai says it best: "...it's kind of like a powerful and personalized hammer. (Or maybe not...)." We're almost sure we can't wait to check it out.

  • Wii Warm Up: Super Smash Cho Aniki?

A GoNintendo reader was looking very critically at the new Gooey Bomb item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and discovered what is absolutely the origin of the item. And now that we've seen them together, it's so obvious that the Gooey Bomb is based on the Holy Protein from Cho Aniki Seinaru Protein Densetsu. You know, except it sticks to people and blows up instead of being orbited by two beefy dudes in Speedos, while shooting lasers. Too bad. If we were designing Smash Bros.-- okay, if I were designing Smash Bros. (I don't think I can speak for Wii Fanboy in this case) it would be heavy on Cho Aniki content. Now, something kind of looking like a thing from another game isn't strictly news, but Wii Warm Up is a discussion topic, and we can discuss whatever we feel like. And today we want to talk about the Cho Aniki series. So, if you've played any of the games, tell us why you loved them. If you haven't, go read about the series, then come back and express your shock.

Everyone is expecting a massive flood of Nintendo megatons from the Nintendo Media Summit today (can you have a flood of megatons? Just go with it.) And, while we have a lot of great coverage of upcoming games to show you, there's nothing that could be called a "megaton." No exclusive new Mario Galaxy screens, no surprise game announcements, and no information about whatever the Wii download service is going to be.It wasn't as spanuuuund as we hoped it would be. We don't have an E3-level news day to give you. What we can offer you is a load of gameplay impressions of some highly anticipated new games. And delicious pie. And what's more, we can deliver on one of those offers! On the one hand, we're pleased with everything we have to look at, watch, and talk about. But on the other, no Metroid. No non-Striking Mario. No Smashing. How do you feel about a media event that ignores the biggest games in Nintendo's lineup?
