Snapchat's latest filters recognize pets and food
Ahead of its imminent redesign, Snapchat is rolling out new filters that recognize what's in your snaps to provide contextually-aware graphics. Snap quietly began doling out the new feature (which lives inside its filter carousel) to users last week, the company confirmed to Mashable. You can trigger the filters by capturing images and video of select items -- including food, pets, and sports equipment -- and objects at locations, such as concerts and beaches.
Snapchat adds augmented reality emoji to your videos
Snapchat has offered a variety of silly, weird (and sometimes racist) filters for a while now. Today, though, Snap is rolling out a few new "world lenses" that have a new trick. You can now place a small group of 3D objects right in your scene and move around them as if they're real-life objects. This expands on the world lenses that the company first revealed back in the fall last year.
Snapchat 'celebrates' women with more insensitive filters
Snapchat has a really hard time celebrating without coming off as offensive. Last 4/20, the app introduced a Bob Marley filter that prompted accusations of racial insensitivity. A few months later, it rolled out an anime-inspired filter that sure looked a lot like yellowface. Now, it's National Women's Day, and the company has messed up yet again.
