Whew, we did it. It's finally the last day of the Steam Summer Sale and we ... what's that? There's another day of this madness? That's just great. Well, hopefully you didn't budget your lemonade stand money the way we did this year in order to account for tomorrow, the final day of the sales promotion. It's hard to keep up when today's sales include Quantum Conundrum and Arma 2: Combined Operations, both at 40% off. Also, Batman: Arkham City stands alone at 66% off, plenty of reason for us to pretend July 22 isn't even on the calendar. While we're at it, Prince of Persia, Evochron Mercenary, Torchlight, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2, and Fable 3 are tempting us with a 75% discount. Well, we're more than a week into the Steam Summer Sale and there's still no end in sight. No end to the savings, that is! (Can you tell we used to write copy for a local used car dealership?)Today's deep discounts include Dungeon Defenders, Fear 3, Magicka and Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad GOTYE, all for less than five smackers each, and Civilization 5, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Crysis 2 and Driver: San Fancisco for less than a tenner. Today's indie bundle is also no slouch, touting the now-classic VVVVVV, as well as the ballistically brilliant Jamestown.

This is a weekly column from freelancer Rowan Kaiser, which focuses on "Western" role-playing games: their stories, their histories, their mechanics, their insanity, and their inanity. It's the most wonderful time of the year to be a PC gamer: the Steam Summer Sale! For those of us who are fans of Western/PC RPGs, this is a chance to get some of the best games available for prices that ought to make console fans jealous. This column is going up toward the end of the sale, so some of the best prices for some may have come and gone, but between the voting, the flash sales, and the fact that Steam usually uses the last day or so to repeat some of the biggest sales, it's possible to get the best prices again even if you missed the first round.

For instance, that copy of Train Simulator 2012 you've been holding out on? It's seeing a massive 90 percent discount, and will cost you just $3.49 if you snap it up soon.Or how about that Wargame: European Escalation game you've had your eye on, eh? That's ... oh who're we kidding? You want Grand Theft Auto IV for your PC and you want it for like $5. Done. The same could be said for RTS classic Company of Heroes (just $2.50!) and recently released third-person shooter Spec Ops: The Line ($33.50). Head on over to the Steam Store for the full listings of sales, which expire tomorrow afternoon.

If you made it this far into the Steam Summer Sale, plan on not buying that pizza you wanted for dinner tonight. Day five of the platform's annual deal-stravaganza features sales on Age of Empires III for $9.99, Metro 2033 for $4.99, RAGE for $9.99, and Assassin's Creed: Revelations for $13.59. Those four games add up to the cost of four large, one-topping pizzas alone.Today's sale includes both Dear Esther and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for a reasonable price of $2.49 each, around the cost of one of those personal pan pizzas. Let's be honest, those don't fill anyone up anyway.

Survival Diary, Day Four:I don't know how much longer I can keep hiding here. It was safe at first; quiet even, like a snow-packed forest or the very depths of the sea, but his footsteps continue to grow closer. Eventually, he's going to find me, and when he does the very core of me will be torn inside out and used to purchase games like Saints Row: The Third, The Walking Dead or any number of the other games on sale today.I know now that my sanctuary beneath the sofa is no longer a sufficient haven in which to ensconce myself, so I must attempt to find new refuge. There's a very good chance this is my last entry, so please, if you find this, tell the pocket watch I love her.Always,Wallet

For those of us with poor self-control and a PC, the Steam Summer Sale is as fiscally dangerous as it is deeply satisfying. So far, the Joystiq Qrew has spent about four hundred thousand collective dollars on Genesis ports alone, so when if we suddenly go offline, that means we spent the last of the server budget on Ecco the Dolphin.Anyway, today's deals include Skyrim for $29.79, Dead Island (one copy for $10.19 or four copies for $30.58), Borderlands for five damn dollars (or $14.98 for a four-pack), as well as a third Indie Bundle and even more. There will also be flash sales throughout the day, so be sure and obsessively refresh Steam every 48 seconds or so until the Summer Sale ends on July 22.

Valve has remained mum on the topic of a 2012 summer sale, but the Open SteamWorks CDR database has uncovered a list of bundles, mostly for indie titles, apparently set for the sale in Steam's backend. Reddit user Dweezy gathered a list of the bundles, broken down over an 11-day period, along with a few other standalone collections.Titles include Cave Story+, Botanicula, Splice, Braid, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, A Valley Without Wind, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Qube, Jamestown, Bit.Trip Runner and Beat, and Waveform. Other bundles, indie or otherwise, include Batman (Asylum, City and Impostors), the BioShock franchise, a Civilization collection, Saints Row: The Third franchise pack, Square Hit Collection and a THQ collection. These oodles of bundles have no release date nor price and are unconfirmed by Valve, but this could be a taste of the sweet summer sale to come. Check the entire list after the break, and put that ice pick down.
