var digg_url = 'http://www.digg.com/nintendo_wii/Super_Mario_Galaxy_screenshots_Toy_robots_manta_rays_and_more'; Even with all the critical news hitting the press today, Super Mario Galaxy was never in danger of being cast aside. Still, to make sure we wouldn't forget who loves us (and where our money's going this November), Nintendo packed our lunch with new screenshots from its highly anticipated 3D platformer. We have no idea what is going on in the above screenshot, but whatever it is, it's totally awesome. There's a 2D Mario sprite hopping around, another Mario is flying past a wind-up toy robot, and it all looks like it's taking place in someone's bedroom. Jump past the break for more!

We've known for quite some time now that Nintendo would be backing E For All. Word just hit today, however, that playable versions of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy will be on-hand for those in attendance. Nintendo, who wasn't showing their face at TGS07, didn't even have a playable build of Brawl on the show floor at E307. Even with the game only a few months away, it'd be nice to get a taste of the action. Perhaps even get to play as one of the new characters. Not only that, but Nintendo will host daily tournaments, hooking each day's winner up with an exclusive Wii T-shirt.Head past the break for all of the Wii games on-hand at the show.

After violently wrestling away this post's title from one of our own, this fine blogger began the investigation involving the mysterious pre-order coin for the upcoming sphere romp, Super Mario Galaxy. While it is unconfirmed if the coin is in fact the mock-up you see above, we're hard-pressed to come up with any other designs that might be better than that of the image above. You may have already voiced your opinions about the design in the previous post, but care to chime in with your thoughts regarding the design? Think we should be tossed something else for pre-ordering the game?

If you love staring at Japanese menu screens, boy do we have the video for you up above there. But, we realize not all people are made alike, and perhaps some of you weirder folk might want to see some gameplay segments. Well, we couldn't do something as crazy as posting videos of gameplay footage on the front page, so we had to tuck those behind the break in the super secret awesome area. No password required, just click below and you're in. Look at you, V.I.P. and all.

When Kikizo asked Insomniac's Ryan Schneider about other games taking influences from their Ratchet & Clank series, Ryan mentioned one game in particular that seemed to crib from them. You're not going to like it!"One that we're even extremely flattered by is Super Mario Galaxy, with their spherical worlds; we did spherical worlds in Going Commando, and Up Your Arsenal. It would be amazing to think that Miyamoto-san thought that was so cool that he wanted to incorporate it into Mario Galaxy."You know who else did spherical worlds? The universe. You may remember some awesome levels like Earth and Pluto Neptune. We're not going to jump into Nintendo fanboy mode and spew venom at Mr. Schneider for daring to impugn Miyamoto-sama, but we will say that Nintendo's probably been working on Galaxy for roughly forever. But if it turned out to be true that Miyamoto and team saw an awesome idea in another game and ran with it, good for them. We'd like to think that the team at EAD keeps up with other games.[Via GoNintendo]

  • Rumor: New Wii SKU to hit this holiday

According to an anonymous supplier, Codename Revolution has the scoop on a supposed new SKU coming to retail for the holiday season. Currently dubbed "New Pack," no word yet on exactly what this new SKU could mean. All we know now is that it has a UPC of "045496880088,″ which comes back as being owned by Nintendo. Whether this is a new bundle (we're betting it's a bundled Super Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros. Brawl bundle, or perhaps one including the Wii Zapper), has yet to be determined. Don't hold your breath for a new Wii unit itself, as it's unlikely Nintendo will do a hardware revision to the console this early in its lifespan. Especially considering the popularity of the console as it is now.

Okay, we realize that everything we say after this next sentence is going to be ignored by everyone, which takes a lot of pressure off of us in terms of spell-checking and such. The Japanese Super Mario Galaxy website is open, and features a video of the game's prologue (click the link we've circled above to get to it).Well, now that everyone's gone to browse the Mario Galaxy website, which, by the way, is absolutely chock full of video in every link, we aren't sure what to do with the rest of this post. It seems like kind of a waste to just end it here. And we're kind of lonely now. Maybe Captain Lou Albano will make us feel like we're not so alone. If anyone's out there, click after the break to do the Mario with us.

This week has been video-heavy, so thought thought we would take a light-hearted approach with this week's video spotlight. You've seen tons of great new trailers and gameplay footage all week, so let's join hands and trek back in time ... to see the latest video games.Wait, what? No, that doesn't make any sense, and we know it ... at least, until you see these 2D renditions of some of Nintendo's most exciting upcoming titles. The videos aren't the newest, so maybe you've seen them before, but they're no less awesome for all of that.

Rumors are hitting the intertron regarding a pre-order gift with Mario's latest adventure. With rumors of the game hooking in 400,000 pre-orders, Nintendo is supposedly spreading the wealth by offering those who pre-order the game the coin you see above. Of course, this is still nothing more than a big rumor, considering that the source has no actual ... well, source.[Via NeoGAF]

The latter half of this two-minute movie even features that curious portion of the E3 trailer in which the level builds itself as Mario moves around. How will we make it to November 12th without our heads exploding from all this exciting media? In addition to a brief mention of a release date at their press conference yesterday, Nintendo is showing off a brand new four-level demo of Super Mario Galaxy at this year's E3. A quick recap of the levels and new stuff available this time around. Warning: Potential spoilers ahead.Stage 1: The basic training level shows you how to jump around some small grass- and dirt-covered planets. Falling into a pit doesn't necessarily kill you -- sometimes you just fall to the other side of the planet. Be careful of black holes, though -- fall into ones of those and it's "too bad" and a restart from the same point. The boss of the first demo level actually takes place on the inner edge of a giant sphere. Mario has to avoid moving electrical conduits and jump on panels to shut down a giant generator. A nice, simple introduction.Stage 2: A little tougher than the first stage -- there are more enemies this time around. Luckily, there are also plenty of stars to collect with the pointer. Once you have some stars, a quick point and a flick of the B button can fire them to stun or knock over enemies. A second player can even pick up another remote and help with the shooting.

Of all the scenes we spotted in yesterday's Super Mario Galaxy trailer, the ones that excited us most were the moments we saw our mustachioed protagonist bedecked in his bee and Boo outfits. Tears of joy came to our eyes, salty with the nostalgia of Super Mario Bros. 3's frog suit, raccoon leaf, and other fondly-remembered power-ups.GameTrailers has a six-minute developer walkthrough of Honey Bee Galaxy, explaining the game's two-player mechanics and Mario's bee apparel along the way. Buzz past the post break for the video honeypot and an awkward clip in which Mario gropes a distressed queen bee.See also: Hands-on with Super Mario Galaxy

The hotly-anticipated Super Mario Galaxy was playable at an executive Nintendo reception earlier tonight. We had to wait patiently as the IGN Nintendo team couldn't get their hands off of it ... and for good reason. The game is incredibly charming and creative, and filled with life that make it a clear killer app for the console.Firstly, the game looks absolutely stunning. Not only does it run in 480p and in widescreen, the game features some beautiful colors, fantastic texture work, and some stellar special effects. The Mario character model is easily the best we've seen in any Nintendo game so far: it's not hard to think that the in-game cut-scenes are pre-rendered at times. Galaxy, at the very least, shows that the Wii is a capable piece of hardware, so long as developers take time and care with it.

Even with a diminished E3, there's no controlling the wave of rumors that hit the Internet every year before the show. Why fight it? From now until E3 hits, we'll be posting one piece of wild speculation every day. Some may be patently ridiculous, and others just might turn out to be true. Even some of the ridiculous ones might turn out to be true! Rest assured, everything will be totally made-up and unfounded. Except, of course, when we speak about all the ass Reggie is going to kick. That part? Totally true. Rumor: Super Mario Galaxy has been cancelled so the team could be put to work on a higher-priority project: a DS birdwatching non-game.

  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl still on for 2007

It's tough going to the party without a date. Earlier this week, Nintendo laid out its release plans up until September 2007, notably leaving a still dateless Super Smash Bros. Brawl out of the whole affair, forcing it to watch as Metroid Prime 3 marched to the ball with an alluring 20th of August on its cannon arm. With no solid release window in sight, the Wii's frantic fighter must have considered going on a lonely drinking binge and slipping into a coma until 2008. That is, until Reggie Fils-Aime administered an unforgiving slap to the face and instilled hope once more. Speaking at the recent Nintendo Summit in Seattle, the Nintendo of America president confirmed that the musically rich Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy would both be out before your Official Iwata Swimsuit 2007 calendar becomes worthless. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for DS was given similar assurances and will likely join the anticipated Wii duo in this holiday season's battle for shoppers. You'd best start stocking up on that financial ammunition.

With only a few months to go before the release of Super Mario Galaxy, expectations couldn't be higher for Nintendo's flagship hero. The title was recently confirmed for release this year, leaving our Nunchuk thumbs quivering in anticipation.Mario is carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders, however. The groundbreaking titles, from the original Super Mario Brothers through to Super Mario 64 (sorry, Mario Sunshine), were more than great games; they also defined their platforms, setting new standards both technically and in terms of design. It's no surprise then, that bloggers are starting to make demands for what they want to see in the new release. Check the link to see what people want this time around, and let us know what you want included.
