Rumors are hitting the intertron regarding a pre-order gift with Mario's latest adventure. With rumors of the game hooking in 400,000 pre-orders, Nintendo is supposedly spreading the wealth by offering those who pre-order the game the coin you see above. Of course, this is still nothing more than a big rumor, considering that the source has no actual ... well, source.[Via NeoGAF]

  • 'U R MR GAY' message discovered in Super Mario Galaxy box art

A NeoGaf poster discovered, in the cover art of Super Mario Galaxy, the most humorous coincidence of the year (or perhaps the devious work of a cover artist). In the box art for Super Mario Galaxy, stars highlighting certain letters in the title spell out: U R MR GAY. The stars, which are attached to specific letters, are part of the original official art (from Nintendo's press site); we manipulated the image's color scale above to emphasize the stars and corresponding letters, but did not alter the image otherwise.Nintendo is almost certain to change this now that it's come out, but it does make us recall all those urban legends about sexual innuendo hidden in Disney films. Sony Defense Force and Xbots have a field day 'cause even Nintendo artists have given you fuel for your crusade. Maybe Nintendo just means people who buy Super Mario Galaxy are happy? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Games Radar has a whole pack of new screens from Super Mario Galaxy that are completely irresistible, like the above. We can't help but love seeing the influence of other Mario games on this gorgeous title (why hello there, Luigi's Mansion), and that, when combined with everything new we've seen, as well as what sounds like the most incredible use of the controller yet, has us salivating for the title. Check out the updated screens in the gallery below! %Gallery-4735%

  • Leipzig is crazy for Mario & Sonic at the Olympics

It's no surprise that the new Mario game took "Best Wii Game" at the Leipzig Game Convention. No, the other one. That's right, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics beat Super Mario Galaxy in the eyes of the jury. According to the statement released with the list of awards, "Mario and Sonic manage to translate Olympic disciplines into easily mastered, entertaining games fun." Not having played either, we suppose we should trust their judgment. But, on the other hand, what?In somewhat less mind-boggling news, the Wii Balance Board was named the "Best Hardware Accessory." The jury said "Having already converted the remote control into a controller, the manufacturer now turns scales into a games accessory."

Jeux-France managed to capture some video of Cookie Factory Galaxy, a Super Mario Galaxy level that we've heard mentioned in past previews, but never seen. The colorful stage features conveyor-belt platforms with shapes cut out of them, forcing Mario to constantly jump and move to avoid falling into the bottomless pits. It looks simple, but still challenging at the same time!Make sure to watch the clip all the way to the end to hear the demo dude tell the cameraman that he's not allowed to film the level. Thanks for taking one for the team, cameraman! The awesome team, that is. [Via Jeux-France]

Joining the already colorful collection of new equipment found in Super Mario Galaxy come the ol' stand-by's the Fire Flower and the Super Star. Now, our Urban Champion league friends over at Wii Fanboy considered this news to be the most spoiling of spoilers, but really, it's about as shocking as finding out that in Galaxy, you collect coins. Hachi machi! Do you think if you collect a certain amount of them, you'll get an extra life? The Fire Flower went missing during the 3-D installments of the series, but was brought back into the fold with last year's New Super Mario Bros. The same can also be said about the super star power-up, though Metal Mario filled the void at times in Super Mario 64.For some real spoilers concerning the plot, check out the story itself. Now those we'll protect you from.[via Nintendo Wii Fanboy]

One of the worst parts of our job is that if we find particular information to report on a high-profile title (like, say, Super Mario Galaxy), we must first gain that knowledge and process it through our own brains. This causes us to retain the knowledge, therefore ruining the experience to come for us. We will not go in pure. But, it's a sacrifice we make for you, fine reader. We'll suffer just to make your life easier. We'll do it gladly. So, if you're not one who enjoys having information on something before you can experience it yourself, turn away. Yesterday's topic got us thinking about another awesome game set to come out this year: Super Mario Galaxy. As we're sure you've noticed, there have been a few of these Mario games over the years (and spin-offs!), and each one tends to have something special. Then there are remakes, tie-ins ... Mario Kart, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis ... is there anything the crew can't do? But that isn't the question on the table. The question is: what's your favorite of the Mario games? Since there are so many different types and styles, we won't fuss if you choose a few favorites instead of just one.

  • New Mario Galaxy scans show Boo costume, cubed planets

New scans from the latest issue of Famitsu have popped up on the NeoGAF forums with new pictures and information on Super Mario Galaxy (which, as we all know, was originally just two Super Mario Star Clusters duct-taped together). Shown in the new scans are cube- and torus-shaped planets, Mario in his bee costume and also a few images of Mario as a Boo. According to translations found on Go Nintendo, Bee Mario can use his stinger and Boo Mario will be left alone by other Boos (though one of the Boo Mario images show him apparently getting hurt by another Boo). Also according to the translations -- we haven't verified the information ourselves, so we can't confirm its validity -- is that six worlds will be in the final game, each with multiple planets. Also, as per the usual post-N64 Mario game, Galaxy will feature 120 stars you can collect.Super Mario Galaxy is hoping to move a few units when it's released November 12 in North America.[Via NWF]

We know there's someone out there who hasn't been completely freaking out about Super Mario Galaxy. There must be for every game, right? Well, we have the cure for Super Mario Apathy and it's Boo Mario. We were naturally pretty excited when we saw Mario don the Boo suit in the E3 trailer, and glad he didn't choose a more traditional method of becoming a ghost. This is absolutely the cutest Mario transformation ever. Take that, Tanooki suit!NeoGAF's neo2046 has scanned three awesome pages of Famitsu loaded with new Galaxy screenshots. We suggest checking them out if you want to learn more about this obscure indie title from up-and-coming publisher Nintendo.[Thanks, Alex Rogers!]

  • Wii games pepper nomination list for E3 awards

The Game Critics Association has released their list of nominations for the best of E3, and Nintendo is all over the place -- particularly with Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Fit. The DS may have been spurned for anything other than the handheld category, but the Wii sure seems to be holding its own against the 360 and PS3. Unfortunately, however, none of the Wii titles made it into the nominations for Best of Show. We'll skip over multiplatform titles like Guitar Hero III, but Wii games showed up in several categories: Best Social/Casual/Puzzle Game (Wii Fit, Zack & Wiki) Best Fighting Game (WWE SmackDown vs RAW 2008) Best Action/Adventure Game (Super Mario Galaxy) Best Action Game (Metroid Prime 3: Corruption) Best Hardware (Balance Board, Zapper) Best Console Game (Super Mario Galaxy) Best Original Game (Wii Fit, de Blob) An interesting mix of games -- some expected, some surprises. The winners will be announced next Tuesday. Think a few Wii games will pull out wins?

  • Kohler speaks with Miyamoto in a very revealing interview

Being the Nintendo maniacs we are, often the thought of finding and capturing Shigeru Miyamoto so that we may have him all to ourself crosses the darkest recesses of our mind. Of course, we realize these are just crazy thoughts and don't have them written down anywhere in the same book where we keep all of our homemade sketches of the iconic gaming legend. We would never do that. But, given how much we read about Shiggy, his latest interview with Chris Kohler is one of his best. Shiggy manages to touch on an icnredible variety of subjects, including price point talk for Wii Fit, the upcoming Wii Ware channel and even took time to offer his opinions on the violent video game debate. If you're going to read one interview from E3, this should be it.

  • New princess spotted in Super Mario Galaxy: Rosetta

New Super Mario Galaxy scans from Famitsu reveal a new woman in Mario's world: Rosetta. Peach has been the standard damsel in distress for most of Mario's career, with the notable exceptions of Princess Daisy in Super Mario Land and Pauline in the original Donkey Kong game. Now it seems this Rosetta lass is in need of Mario's super saving services, though Peach's kidnapping is the original reason he launches himself into space. Is Rosetta just some random lady in a dress, or are we looking at the makings of a daytime TV drama here?

Crowned and blonde, just like our fair Princess Peach, this new gal materialized in Famitsu's latest preview of Super Mario Galaxy. The Japanese magazine identifies her as Rosetta, but doesn't clarify whether or not her name bears any deeper meaning or relation to the famed translation stone. Those of you who fear any drastic change to your beloved franchise or the expected routine need not worry -- Rosetta won't be replacing Peach's role in this intergalactic adventure. As has been stated several times since the game's announcement, Mario will be touring the cosmos in search of his kidnapped love, Ms. Toadstool.

In addition to a brief mention of a release date at their press conference yesterday, Nintendo is showing off a brand new four-level demo of Super Mario Galaxy at this year's E3. A quick recap of the levels and new stuff available this time around. Warning: Potential spoilers ahead.Stage 1: The basic training level shows you how to jump around some small grass- and dirt-covered planets. Falling into a pit doesn't necessarily kill you -- sometimes you just fall to the other side of the planet. Be careful of black holes, though -- fall into ones of those and it's "too bad" and a restart from the same point. The boss of the first demo level actually takes place on the inner edge of a giant sphere. Mario has to avoid moving electrical conduits and jump on panels to shut down a giant generator. A nice, simple introduction.Stage 2: A little tougher than the first stage -- there are more enemies this time around. Luckily, there are also plenty of stars to collect with the pointer. Once you have some stars, a quick point and a flick of the B button can fire them to stun or knock over enemies. A second player can even pick up another remote and help with the shooting.

Of all the scenes we spotted in yesterday's Super Mario Galaxy trailer, the ones that excited us most were the moments we saw our mustachioed protagonist bedecked in his bee and Boo outfits. Tears of joy came to our eyes, salty with the nostalgia of Super Mario Bros. 3's frog suit, raccoon leaf, and other fondly-remembered power-ups.GameTrailers has a six-minute developer walkthrough of Honey Bee Galaxy, explaining the game's two-player mechanics and Mario's bee apparel along the way. Buzz past the post break for the video honeypot and an awkward clip in which Mario gropes a distressed queen bee.See also: Hands-on with Super Mario Galaxy

Even with a diminished E3, there's no controlling the wave of rumors that hit the Internet every year before the show. Why fight it? From now until E3 hits, we'll be posting one piece of wild speculation every day. Some may be patently ridiculous, and others just might turn out to be true. Even some of the ridiculous ones might turn out to be true! Rest assured, everything will be totally made-up and unfounded. Except, of course, when we speak about all the ass Reggie is going to kick. That part? Totally true. Rumor: Super Mario Galaxy has been cancelled so the team could be put to work on a higher-priority project: a DS birdwatching non-game.
