The next in Capcom's wonderful Vs. series of 2D fighting games hits the Wii this year in Japan, full of Capcom characters you love and Tatsunoko characters with whom you may be superficially familiar at best. Of course, who the characters are is almost totally meaningless -- just ask Marvel vs. Capcom 2's Marrow or Ruby Heart. What matters is the gameplay. And on a system that has only a few joystick options and a stock controller that is as different from a fighting stick as it possibly could be, that could be a problem. The game has Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO-style shortcuts for special moves, even though the Classic Controller is a bit better suited for fighting games than the GameCube controller.Assuming any of us will even get to play it, will it be worth doing on the Wii? Will there be enough Hori joysticks on the market to cover the demand created by an original Capcom fighter? Or is the Classic Controller adequate as the liaison between your hands and the game?%Gallery-32421%

The big announcement at Capcom's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom stage event involved two new characters, one from each of the companies from which the cast of the game is drawn. On the Tatsunoko side, Jun the Swan from Gatchaman. On the Capcom side, Mega Man's sister, Roll! Strangely, this isn't Roll Caskett from Mega Man Legends, from whence this game's Mega Man originates; rather, this is the classic Roll. With her broom.1up's James Mielke took in a playable demo of the Wii version of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes at TGS, and basically raved about it, saying that it "may just be the neo-2D fighter to beat in the upcoming months." He praises the admirable performance of the Classic Controller for the game, as well.%Gallery-32421%

Click for full-sized image Nintendo announced a lot of games last night at their Japanese conference. Many of them, like Punch-Out!! here, were brand new. Some, like Supan Smasher and Cosmic Walker, we still don't know anything about. But we've got screenshots. So many screenshots. After the break, you'll find galleries of all the new games, along with new screens of some upcoming games we've known about for a while. Of special interest to us: the previously-announced Oboro Muramasa Youtouden, coming to the US as Muramasa: The Demon Blade, because it looks super hot, Karaoke Joysound Wii, which appears to have art by Parappa creator Rodney Alan Greenblat, and Takuto of Magic (Wand of Magic), which appears to be a followup to Taito's LostMagic on the DS. %Gallery-33381%

You'll have to travel a helluva distance to find somebody who likes the Wiimote and Nunchuk as much as we do, but there's no getting away from one fact: Nintendo's unique peripherals weren't made with intricate, combo-heavy fighting games in mind.Fortunately, when it comes to Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes, Capcom has two solutions. Solución uno: a simplified control scheme whereby a chain combo can be pulled off with a single button press, and special moves don't require input commands. Solución dos: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom will be compatible with the sleek, delicious slab of plastic that is the Classic Controller for the hardcore set. Not that we'd expect fighting enthusiasts to play this with anything other than a Hori Fighting Stick but, you know.In other news: screens!%Gallery-32421%[Via Siliconera]

A port of Capcom's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes to the Wii seemed eminently likely, given that the arcade game uses some kind of "Wii-compatible" hardware. Capcom has made it official, revealing the Wii release, scheduled for December, in the latest Famitsu.Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is the latest in the Vs. fighting series, adding new 3D graphics and a new set of characters to the high-speed 2D fighting. This time, Capcom characters, including the requisite World Warriors, Rock Volnutt from Mega Man Legends, the PTX-40A from Lost Planet, and others, face off against characters from Tatsunoko Production's stable of anime characters, including Casshan/Casshern and Gatchaman's Ken. Of course, the Wii version also features some goofy minigames involving things like math problems and a shooting gallery, but it's hard to object to extras. While the licensing challenges involved with the Tatsunoko characters, and the difficulty in selling a game full of unknowns, may keep this game out of the US, Capcom may decide what a boon a Wii-exclusive fighting game may be. We couldn't be more excited in any case. Somehow, this will be made to work on our system. We look forward to the inevitable Tatsunoko vs. Capcom-branded Hori joystick!

Remember that rumor we posted regarding Tatsunoko vs Capcom? Well, Capcom is saying that the title might not be destined for the United States (does this imply all of North America?). In fact, the possibility of the arcade game coming over here is situated somewhere between slim and none.Of course, this doesn't answer questions regarding the Wii port of the title. If the game does get ported to Wii, and released in Japan, homebrew aficionados will have little problem enjoying it on their console. For the rest of us that want a localized version, however, we should probably stop holding our breath.

Capcom's Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Cross Generation is a title set to release in Japan this year. If the name throws you (or you don't keep up with the Japanese fighting game scene), just know this: it has Capcom vs in the title so it has to be good. It's almost guaranteed to be great, even, with past titles such as Marvel vs Capcom 2 and the near-perfect Capcom vs SNK 2 being examples of what to expect in terms of quality here. According to a Japanese website, the game could be coming to Wii.The original rumor was that the title will support a "Wii-compatible board," which might cause some to think it's Balance Board support. Well, we found that the term describes the circuit board the arcade game uses, meaning that porting the game to the Wii would not be an impossible task.[Via Nintendic]
