  • Cisco phasing out FlipShare: 30 days to save your videos

Many Flip fans are already sporting black arm bands with little red spots in honor of the dying brand, and the New York Times reports there's more bad news coming. Starting May 12th, all videos uploaded to FlipShare will expire 30 days after they've been posted. This applies to videos you've already uploaded as well --- so you've got till June 11th to follow the lead of Google Video users and back up your collection of clips before they disappear into the digital ether. The FlipShare service will continue to live on for another two and a half years, if you don't mind the one month limit, but clearly Cisco wants users to move on with their video-sharing lives. Check out the more coverage link for instructions on how to export your videos, and let's have one more moment of silence for the tiny camcorder that could... at least until it couldn't.

Our podcast is back as usual this afternoon, and it looks to be a great show. We'll have the results of Turpster's authenticator contest (there's still time to put the code word -- it's "bananas" -- in over on Facebook, if you haven't entered yet), and as usual, we'll do what we always do, which is answer reader email and chat about the most popular posts of the last week. This week, that'll include what's going on with professions lately, and how Blizzard might make them better, whether Ulduar will be harder or not, how some folks see WoW as offensive, and the new time limit on Arena matches (and whether it will make a difference or not). And of course we'll talk about what we've been up to in the game lately, and if you stick around afterwards, we'll be live on the aftershow, when you can talk directly to us from the comments without those pesky recorders taking down our every word. It all kicks off at 3:30pm Eastern (8:30pm GMT) over on our Ustream page. And as usual, I've also embedded the feed live in the second half of this post, so you can just click through to join in on the show and the conversation today. Whether you're raiding or soloing this afternoon, feel free to jump in the chat and give us a listen!

  • 45 minute time limit for all arena matches

Bornakk just posted an important announcement for all arena participants:There is now a time limit of 45 minutes for all arenas. If neither team has achieved a victory, both teams will lose 16 arena rating points. This is posted in the general discussion forums, and we can safely assume that this change is active on live realms.Bornakk goes on further to say that matches that go on for 45 minutes are currently showing up as a draw and not displaying a loss of arena points. However, the point loss still happens. This means that you can apparently see it when you look at your honor page and you'll notice that your rating has gone down by 16 pointsWe've covered some very long arena matches in the past. A 13 hour match between a Druid/Warrior and Warlock/Paladin, won by the Warlock/Paladin, and a 10 hour arena match (the classes were not reported on).

  • Ten of our favorite Achievements

A few readers have emailed us recently asking just what kinds of things to expect in the Achievements releasing with Wrath of the Lich King later this year. There are going to be over 500 of them (with more added later), and while there are a few standard things you might expect (getting Exalted with all the reputations, exploring the world, and maxing out your character), there are lots more that are meant to do what Achievements do best: extend gameplay. So we hunted through all the Achievements in the beta, and pulled out ten that we really liked. Not all of these are unique (for the Alterac Valley time limit one, there is actually one of those for every battleground in the game), but all of them are great examples of why you should be excited about Achievements when they hit the live realms. From the silly to the "requires a serious commitment," here are ten great Achievements we've seen in the beta. %Gallery-31080%

  • PPV movies get 24-hour clock on DirecTV

For owners of the VUDU set-top-box and even the Apple TV, hearing of some sort of "24-hour limitation" is nothing new. Unfortunately for DirecTV subscribers, they'll soon be understanding exactly what it means to have content guardians put the squeeze on PPV purchases. Though it was announced late last month, just one week remains until pay-pay-view purchases made through the satcaster have a 24-hour time limit imposed on them from the time of purchase. DTV does note, however, that any flicks in your playlist prior to April 15th won't be affected. Lovely, right?[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
