I don't know what the weather is like in your part of the world, but here in the Front Range of Colorado, it's beautiful and expected to get into the 60s (degrees Fahrenheit) today. But rather than go outside and enjoy the great outdoors, I'll be slaving over a hot computer today at 5 PM ET to bring you the best in weekly streaming video. Not that I'm complaining -- TUAW TV Live is the highlight of my week! Today on TUAW TV Live, it's going to be all Mac, all the time. Well, maybe I'll talk a wee bit about iPads, iPhones, accessories and the like, but the main focus is everybody's favorite computer -- the Mac. There are some great new Mac apps I'll be demoing, I'll be expressing my deep love for my 11.6" MacBook Air (the perfect blogger's computer), and as always, I'll be responding to your chat topics and tweets. The action starts at 5 PM ET (2 PM PT / 10 PM GMT) today. Just drop by about five minutes before the show starts, and there will be easy-to-follow instructions on how to watch the livestream and participate in the chat. (And yes, I do know that I'm mixing my metaphors with the photo illustration above since I'm supposed to be talking about Macs. But it just seemed like a fun thing to do...) Be there. TUAWloha.

Now that the Mac App Store has been around for a bit, it's time to see what's available and popular in the new shopping mall that is sitting on the Dock of a lot of Macs. Today, TUAW TV Live host Steve Sande and the best-known iPad user in Hawaii -- Doc Rock -- are getting together virtually to go shopping at the Mac App Store. We'll be throwing out our ideas for the best and most interesting apps to be found in the Mac App Store, talking about the ease of buying, installing and updating apps, and what we'd like to see added to the store. It's all getting started in a few minutes. From your Mac or PC, go to the next page by clicking the Read More link at the bottom of this post, and you'll find a livestream viewer and a chat tool. The chat tool allows you to participate by asking questions or making comments. If you're driving somewhere and would like to watch TUAW TV Live while you're stuck in traffic, please don't -- keep your eyes on the road! However, if someone else is doing the driving, you can watch the show on your iPhone and join the chat by downloading the free Ustream Viewing Application. If you're on an iPad, you should be able to use the Skyfire Browser to watch the stream, although you will not be able to participate in the chat. We'll start at about 5 PM ET, so if you're seeing a prerecorded show, be sure to refresh your browser until you get the live stream.

Welcome back to another episode of TUAW TV Live, the live streaming video show where I try to make history each week by cramming as many reviews, giveaways (sometimes) and personal comments into one hour as possible. Today's show is going to be a parade of hardware -- mainly iPad cases -- and apps that have arrived at the TUAW TV Live studios since the end of Macworld Expo on Saturday. Trust me, there's been a steady stream of UPS and FedEx trucks here as a few companies that didn't make it to Expo, as well as some who promised me review samples at Expo, are all shipping their goods at once. One that I saw at Expo and thought was oh-so-sexy was the iSkin Aura you see at right. This morning's yawner of a press conference about The Daily was quickly followed by a mad rush to install the new app and review it, but there's a lot of other news to cover today. Today on TUAW TV Live, I'll be picking up where Macworld Expo left off, with live reviews of the ZooGue Version 2 iPad case, TypeCase iPad case, a new and beautiful iSkin iPad case and some iPad cases and an iPad stand from NewerTech. Yep, it looks like this could be the iPad case episode of TUAW TV Live. But wait, there's more! I'll also be reviewing the Mophie Juice Pack Air for iPhone 4, the new Kanex HDMI adapter for mini-Display Port and a few apps for iPad and iPhone. Those LensPen Sidekick iPad screen cleaners? Yes, I'll show you how they work on a smudgy iPad screen. How about the Glif? We'll take a look at it, too. I'm pretty sure that Doc Rock will be joining us in the chat room for commentary about my behavior at some of the Macworld Expo parties (note: I'm always on my best behavior). I'll be getting started at 5 PM ET today, so be sure to point your browser back here to TUAW.com a few minutes ahead of that time to join the chat and start up the livestream.

This afternoon, be sure to join me for a special edition of TUAW TV Live. We'll be starting a half-hour later (2:30 PM PT / 5:30 ET) to accommodate a visit with the boys from Boinx Software, but it should be a fun-filled hour of awe-inspiring silliness from me and whoever else decides to degrade themselves by appearing with me on camera. The Conference has just begun, with the MacTech Boot Camp and Macworld Industry Forum leading off the schedule today. The actual Expo show floor is abuzz with the sounds of forklifts, battery-powered drills and panicky vendors, with everyone trying to get the construction of their booths done before 10 AM PT tomorrow. TUAW, however, has the on-floor studio up and running in Booth 1012, so we'll be doing the show in the midst of chaos. At least there will be no cats to short out my mic today... Come on back to TUAW just before 5:30 PM ET and we'll have all of the necessary tools for you to watch the show and join the chat. See you then!

Welcome back to TUAW TV Live, my weekly live streaming video show where I talk about all things Apple. • TUAW TV Live at 5 PM ET: Covering the week's Apple news

    01.19.2011

Since the doors closed at Kelly's House of Crackpot Theories (AKA the TUAW Talkcast) on Sunday night, there has been a surprising amount of Apple-related news. Steve Jobs sent an email to all Apple employees explaining that he's going on another health-related leave of absence, AAPL stock took a beating, and then the company announced yet another quarter of outstanding financial results and the stock went up again. This afternoon on TUAW TV Live, I'll provide some opinion and commentary on what happened in the last few days. Since I'm older than dirt and have seen a lot of changes since I started observing Apple 31 years ago, I'll add a historical perspective to the entire "Apple without Steve Jobs" picture. I'm not a financial analyst, but I have some thoughts about hidden items in the financial report that I'd like to throw some light on as well. Next week, the crack TUAW blogging crew will be in San Francisco covering Macworld Expo 2011. Our schedules and our bags are packed, the video camera lenses are polished, and our Macs, iPads and iPhones are charged up and ready to roll. I've been attending Macworld Expo since the late 1980s, so I'll give you an overview of what's different about the Expo in 2011 as well as what we expect to see during the show. The show starts live at 5 PM ET / 2 PM PT here at TUAW. Show up a few minutes before, and we'll have complete instructions on how to view the live video stream and join the conversation in our chat tool.

"Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends..." TUAW TV Live is back for another hour of discussion, chat, demonstrations and unplanned technical difficulties. Starting at 5 PM ET, I'll be firing up the cameras and studio lights, putting on my Apple logo'd hat and talking about everything that's happened in the world of Apple over the last week or two. Not that anything big has happened... Following that, I'll be talking about ways that you can reduce the amount of paperwork on your desktop by using a few commonly available software tools and some relatively inexpensive hardware. If you're fired with enthusiasm to make your workplace (or home office) paper-free after the show, then consider getting a copy of longtime TidBITS blogger and Mac author Joe Kissell's amazing electronic tome on the topic -- Take Control of Your Paperless Office. Thanks to the wonderful folks at Take Control Books, TUAW readers and TUAW TV Live viewers can get a 30% discount on this e-book. Just use the link above to view the description and purchase the e-book, and you'll get 30% off of the already bargain price of US$10. You can also manually enter in the coupon code CPN011310112UAW to get the discount. To watch TUAW TV Live from your Mac or PC, go to the next page by clicking the Read More link at the bottom of this post, and you'll find a livestream viewer and a chat tool. CES 2011 is over, Macworld Expo 2011 is just two weeks away, and just twelve days into the new year, we've had a lot to be excited about. Our favorite computers have their very own Mac App Store, the iPhone has a second carrier in the U.S., and the rumors of iPad 2 are beginning to fill the air. Today on TUAW TV Live, I'll be talking about all of these topics and more. You can join in on the discussion through the Ustream chat tool, suggest topics and even see if I can touch my cat without having my mic go offline (you should have been there last week...). I also plan on discussing my mixed success in going to a paperless office in 2010, what software and hardware I used to be able to accomplish those goals and how I expect to move even further towards a paper-free office in 2011. Join the usual suspects for TUAW TV Live at 5 PM ET / 2 PM PT / 10 PM GMT today. Drop by TUAW about 5 minutes before the show goes live, and you'll find a post with instructions on how to watch the live streaming video and use the chat.

TUAW TV Live viewers will know that we had so much fun on last week's show with our very own Mike Schramm and Megan Lavey that I invited the inimitable Doc Rock to join me this week. That's Doc getting the latex glove treatment at right. Doc's our unofficial Hawaii correspondent for TUAW, supplying us with a stream of commentary and laughs every Sunday night on the TUAW Talkcast. Today marks his first appearance on TUAW TV Live, although he's been an active voice in the chat room. Trust me -- you get two guys who love to talk and put 'em in the same virtual studio, and you're bound to have a lot of fun. How do you join in? From your Mac or PC, go to the next page by clicking the Read More link at the bottom of this post, and you'll find a livestream viewer and a chat tool. The chat tool allows you to participate by asking questions or making comments. If you're driving somewhere and would like to watch TUAW TV Live while you're stuck in traffic, please don't -- keep your eyes on the road! If you've watched TUAW TV Live on any Wednesday afternoon over the last year, or joined in on Sunday night to listen to the TUAW Talkcast, then you're familiar with Doc Rock. He's fun, always opinionated, an Apple fan (and former Genius Bar employee), a blogger and a podcaster. Today I'm happy to have Doc Rock on the show as my guest, live from Hawaii. We'll be talking about CES and the onslaught of Android and Windows-based tablets, the unveiling of the Mac App Store tomorrow and anything else that happens to keep us rollin' for an hour. You can join us at 5 PM ET (2 PM PT / 10 PM GMT) here at TUAW. We'll have full instructions on how to watch the video stream and join in the text chat, so just drop by about five minutes before the show is scheduled to begin. TUAWloha!

The holidays are still here. You're at home, stuck with the relatives for the next few days, and you'd like to do something fun. Why not join a group of TUAW bloggers for an hour of discussion and laughs? Every Wednesday afternoon I host TUAW TV Live, which (as the name implies) is a live one-hour streaming video show discussing the week's Apple news, demonstrating new software, providing the occasional giveaway and more. You can participate in the show through the Ustream chat tool that appears on the next page. Today's show is going to be a bit of a first for TUAW TV Live, as I'll be hosting a group of my fellow bloggers in a free-for-all discussion of Apple in 2010 and what we expect to see in the next year. If the gods of technology are with us today, there should be several of us chatting together over Skype. How can you join in on the fun? From your Mac or PC, go to the next page by clicking the Read More link at the bottom of this post, and you'll find a livestream viewer and a chat tool. The chat tool allows you to participate by asking questions or making comments. For the last TUAW TV Live of the year, I've decided I want to bring in the big guns -- my fellow TUAW bloggers. You get to hear us just about every Sunday night, but you don't often see us in action. I'm going to tempt fate and try to bring Megan Lavey, Mike Schramm, Mike Rose (tentative) and more into a Skype 5 video chat. What are we going to talk about? The past year, like the biggest Apple stories of 2010, the best products and the worst nightmares. We'll also talk about what we think is coming up in 2011 that will be exciting and new -- will there be a killer product that nobody has thought about? Will the Mac App Store reinvigorate the development world for Mac software? You can join in as well through the Ustream chat tool. Ask the panelists questions, make comments and discuss our points with other people in the chat room. To join in on this fun and usually educational show, come on back to TUAW just before 5 PM ET (2 PM PT, 10 PM GMT), and you'll find a post containing the live streaming video, the chat room and instructions on how to join in if you're on an iPhone or iPad. See you later!

Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to another episode of TUAW TV Live! This should prove to be a lively and fun episode of the show, since I have a review of the Elgato EyeTV HD "Mac DVR" queued up to show you. This is a great idea if you have a traditional cable or satellite TV box and you wish to view or record TV shows in full HD on your Mac. I'll have a full review of the EyeTV HD soon, along with a giveaway, but you can get a preview of the device today. In addition, I'll entertain questions about the 11" MacBook Air. I've had it for a week now, and find it to be a very fast, capable and compact Mac. Finally, I'll show a video and demo of a new iPad app that brings back memories of the Apple Newton MessagePad. How can you join in on the fun? From your Mac or PC, go to the next page by clicking the Read More link at the bottom of this post, and you'll find a livestream viewer and a chat tool. The chat tool allows you to participate by asking questions or making comments. If you're driving somewhere and would like to watch TUAW TV Live while you're stuck in traffic, please don't -- keep your eyes on the road! However, if someone else is doing the driving, you can watch the show on your iPhone by downloading the free Ustream Viewing Application. We haven't neglected our iPad users, since you can tune in to TUAW TV Live on your iPad! That link will send you to a non-Flash page, although you won't have access to our chat tool. And one final note -- if the show has started and you're seeing a previously recorded show instead of the livestream, you can always pop on over to ustream.tv/tuaw to join the show in progress. See you there!

Whenever I need to think of a topic for TUAW TV Live, I just look around my cluttered (or is it messy?) office, and I usually find inspiration. Today's inspiration comes from a device that should have been reviewed long ago -- Elgato's EyeTV HD (US$199.95), a Mac-based DVR / Tuner that works with satellite and cable HD boxes. I'll have a full review of the EyeTV HD in the next few days, but viewers will get to see this device in action this afternoon. I've also had the 11" MacBook Air for a week now, and I'll fill you in on the details as part of the show. The action all starts at 5 PM ET (2 PM PT) here at TUAW.com. If you've never watched the show before, it combines live streaming video, taped segments and an interactive user chat for a fun-filled hour of rampant Apple fanboyism. For complete instructions on how to watch the stream and join the chat, come back to TUAW a few minutes before 5 PM ET. See you then!

While we cover a lot of Apple accessories here at TUAW, it's quite rare when we touch upon a peripheral that many Apple fans find indispensable to their life -- the printer. On today's TUAW TV Live, you'll see a preview of a video review that will be posted a bit later today about the HP Photosmart Premium C310a e-All-in-One printer. What's so exciting about a printer? Well, this is one of those printers that requires no drivers and shows up in your iPad or iPhone's printer list automatically. It also prints any document you email to it from wherever, and it doesn't even need a computer to print out maps and other useful information. There's more to today's show than printers, though. I'll also show off some new products for iPhone and iPad, as well as do a live run-through of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac for those of you who are still on the bubble about upgrading to the new version. How can you join in on the fun? From your Mac or PC, go to the next page by clicking the read more link at the bottom of this post, and you'll find a livestream viewer and a chat tool. 12.08.2010

This afternoon on TUAW TV Live, I have some rather fascinating demos to show you. First, I'll be using a new HP Photosmart C310a e-All-in-One printer to demonstrate how printing from an iPad or iPhone running iOS 4.2 is supposed to work. This printer is one of a handful that supports ePrint and zero-configuration printing, so you can literally set up the printer to work with Macs, PCs and iDevices without installing a driver anywhere, or print anything that you can email. It's an interesting look at the future of printing. Next, I'll be demonstrating a new iPad dock with speakers, the PadDock 10 from SMK-Link. For those who want to use their iPads to show off media, the PadDock 10 is a useful docking station for viewing, listening, syncing and charging your device. I also took advantage of a Cyber Monday sale to get a family pack for Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac Home and Student Edition, and I'll show you some of the features of the new Office suite. Hint: it's fast. Damned fast. Of course, we'll have some time to talk about whatever else is new in the world of Apple. Whether it's rumors of the iPad 2, the competition or just chatting about the coolest app you've ever used, we'll spare some time for your input and comments. If you've never watched TUAW TV Live, you're in for a treat. The show is about an hour long, and you not only see streaming video of some of the latest and greatest Apple technology, but you can also participate through our chat tool. To watch and participate in the show, just be sure to come back to TUAW.com at about 4:55 PM ET for full instructions on how to join in on the fun.

Today's show is all about what iOS 4.2 brought to the picture. I'll do some live demos of some of the features in action, and will have recorded video for other features that need an Apple TV to show off. I'll also be demoing RapidWeaver 5.0, which was released today. You can even enter to win a free license for RapidWeaver, valued at US$79. How can you join in on the fun?
