We still don't have an exact release date for Unreal Tournament 3 for Xbox 360, but we're getting closer. The news out of Midway's Gamers Day is that we can expect the title to appear this "summer." We found out yesterday that the Xbox 360 version will feature five "exclusive" maps, split screen capabilities and two new characters. Today we can add that there will also be an all-new Warfare mode, though we're still trying to find out what that exactly means. Check out the gallery below for some new images.%Gallery-20852%

While we've been waiting patiently for any word on a Unreal Tournament 3 release date for the 360 we couldn't help but let our mind wonder about what extra content Epic would be packing in our edition. Seeing that Epic is known to add additional goods to game releases months down the road (here's looking at you Gears of War PC). And our bonus content dreams have been confirmed.Epic Games just revealed that the Xbox 360 edition of UT3 will feature all the previously released PS3 and PC content as well as five additional maps not available on any other edition, two new characters (Master Chief?) and the addition of local split screen. High fives all around! No release date has been announced though, but there is a new trailer which we've embedded above. Enjoy and look forward to the exclusive UT3 content headed our way, because we all know custom content isn't going to happen.[Thanks, Russ]

There's still no release date for Unreal Tournament 3 on Xbox 360, but there are some details now on what makes the 360's iteration different from PC and PS3. IGN reports that the Xbox 360 version of UT3 will have five new "exclusive" maps, two new characters and includes two-player splitscreen. It will also contain the free maps available as DLC for the PS3 and PC versions of the game.Jeff Morris, senior producer at Epic, tells the site he believes UT3 will be a reprieve for those with "tactical shooter fatigue." He stands by the game being an "unabashedly twitch" title. We're expecting more details (maybe even a release date) on the Xbox 360 version of UT3 sometime tomorrow.

  • Unreal Tournament III gets price drop: to be $40 everywhere

For one reason or another, Epic's PS3-early Unreal Tournament III never found the success of its previous titles, like Gears of War. Midway is giving the multiplayer FPS another chance at retail, with a rather significant price drop. Originally $60, the game is now a mere $40 new at game retailers, such as amazon.com and GameStop. With a recently released free map pack and a growing collection of user-generated mods, there's never been a better time to jump into the UT community. Hopefully, this price drop will give the game the attention it never received at launch.[Via GT Forums]

  • Epic knows UTIII release date. No, they won't tell

Mark Rein has been making comments recently that despite appearances, the 360 version of Unreal Tournament III is "coming along really nicely." The real story is nicer even than that apparently, as Rein says that the internal team knows the date, but that they just haven't released it yet. When asked if they have a release date, Rein replied "We do, but I don't think we put it out yet," then said "It's kind of a when it's done thing. We have an idea of when it's coming." There wasn't any kind of a reason put forward, and then Rein teased a bit claiming that the media would see the game running at a press event in Las Vegas soon. We don't really see why the final release date couldn't just be nailed down, as Rein "was playing it yesterday here in my office." The only downside we could see is the eventual announcement (thanks to MS's draconian ideas about player generated content) that the 360 version won't have any mod support.

It's not much of a deal, but if you want to pay "last-gen" prices for "next-gen" games, then you might finally bite the bullet and get Unreal Tournament 3 for this slightly discounted price. If you think about all the fun you'll have when it comes to mods, then you're pretty set when it comes to convincing yourself. It's definitely a good game to add to your PS3 library, so we're just tipping you off on what might be the eight bucks off you needed.

It's been a while since we've talked about Unreal Tournament 3 on the Xbox 360, but Epic's Mark Rein has said in the game's forums that the port is due to be shown in a couple of weeks at Midway's Gamers' Day in Vegas. He says there is no "particular release date yet," but that the title is "coming along really nicely."We're still a little curious about what UT3 on Xbox 360 will offer. The PS3 version recently received free maps (something we know MS doesn't like to do) and Rein previously admitted there were complications with Microsoft over modding. Hopefully there'll be some answers at Midway's Gamers' Day on April 17.

Responding to a thread on the official Epic Games forums regarding a rumored May release for the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III, Epic's Mark Rein responded that no release date has been set. Rein noted that the Xbox 360 version would be featured for press at Midway's upcoming Gamers Day event in Las Vegas. Rein closed off his statements letting fans know that the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III was, "coming along really nicely." Let's just hope this version strikes a chord with fans at retail.

Oh, Samus, did you lose all of your suit's abilities again? Is that why you're running around in Unreal Tournament III, picking fights with Master Chief? Wait, is your lawyer okay with this? Does he think all this modding magic is "great?"[Via PS3 Fanboy]

It's all very well being able to play as Master Chief or Marcus Fenix in Unreal Tournament 3, but what about Nintendo fans? Who can they play as? Thankfully, one skillful modder has created a Samus Aran character model to placate the UTIII playing Nintendo mob. The model itself looks excellent and we can't wait to try it out. You can find more information as well as links to the mod (cooked for the PS3, naturally) at ut3mod.com. Go check it out and let us know what you think.

We're sure you saw the delightful cross-platform mash-up that put everyone's favorite Spartan smack dab in the middle of PS3 shooter Unreal Tournament 3. While we got a kick of it, we couldn't help but wonder how Uncle Bill and his army of lawyers felt. According to one of those legal eagles, MS thinks that it's the bee's knees. Here it is straight from the source: "The developers aren't selling the mod, they're not monetizing Microsoft's IP, they're just creating something to share their love of the Master Chief on a new platform. It's a great thing for us and a great thing for the gaming community." Apparently, we've got the Game Content Usage Rules to thank. Now ... do those apply to G.I. Joe?

  • CrossOver Games released, designed to play Windows games on Mac and Linux

Codeweavers has released CrossOver Games, a games-specific version of CrossOver, their Windows emulation software. Jeremy White has the story behind the release over on their blog -- apparently the application team wasn't working quite as quickly as they wanted, but the games team was chugging right along in terms of compatibility, so they decided to go ahead and ship what they'd done with games on its own.The compatibility list isn't bad (most of the Steam stuff is on there, which is great, although it is a little weird that they brag about World of Warcraft and EVE Online, considering that those two run natively on Mac just fine; guess you Linux folks need your MMO fix, too) but nothing really jumps out here that might encourage you to use CrossOver rather than just, say, Boot Camp-ing the game up yourself. DirectX 10 is apparently causing problems, too, since neither Crysis, Gears of War, or Unreal Tournament III are on there.Still, a valiant effort, and if you're desperate to get one of these games working and playable on your Mac (and don't have a spare copy of Windows sitting around to install with Boot Camp), CrossOver Games might be just what you need. TUAW is working on getting a copy of it, and as soon as we do, we'll run it through the grinder and see what we can get to come out the other side.[Via DF]

  • Master Chief, Locust and Marcus ... meet UT3

The Unreal Tournament 3 character modding community is alive, kicking and has a bad case of Xbox 360 envy. So much envy that UT3 community modeler Organ decided to create Master Chief, Locust Horde and Marcus Fenix character mods. And did we mention all the models are teh hawtness? Just take a look at Master Chief above and try to convince us that he wouldn't be your character of choice. Oddly enough, if Epic were to include these models in the "maybe some day" release of UT3 on the 360 we may totally forget about playing custom maps and be happy with these models. Click towards the break to watch a video of the Master Chief model and head towards the jump to check out Mr. Fenix and a Locust Drone. Commence salivating.[Via PS3 Fanboy, Thanks Chris]

It was only a matter of time until the Unreal Tournament III community started building some truly spectacular mods for use on PS3. This Master Chief suit, for example, looks just as good (if not better) than his model in Halo 3. Remember when buying a console game meant living with whatever bugs and gameplay glitches got inadvertently shipped with the game? Well, the folks at Epic want you to forget all about those days with a patch for the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament coming down the PSN pike on March 27.The fixes included in the free, downloadable patch include support for character mods, an easier method for downloading mods from the web browser, and basically a lot of other stuff related to mods (in addition to some other incidental tech fixes). The patch will also bring the European and U.S. editions of the game into alignment, allowing for online matches across the Atlantic. A nice feature, but we hope all that data going across the transatlantic cables doesn't cause too much lag.Check out the full list of bug fixes after the break.

We don't know about you, but we've had trouble going back to Unreal Tournament 3 for online play due to the broken VOIP feature. It really is a game-killer. Thankfully, a new post on the official Epic forums lets us know that the upcoming Unreal Tournament 3 patch for the PS3 will fix these issues -- and much, much more. Check out the full patch list after the break to find out exactly what's included. The patch will affect US versions of the game more than the European version as the latter had many of these fixes added to the retail version, thanks to the two month delay. Notable fixes include the VOIP feature (so important, it's worth mentioning twice), mod adding/downloading (we're assuming this means we can have more than one mod on our memory stick at once?) and plenty more miscellaneous features. For the full list check after the break.

While we can think of other childhood amusements we'd rather see as the inspiration for a Unreal Tournament 3 mod (like a recreation of a Mighty Max playset, or something of the Fraggle variety), this Lego-themed map is pretty ingenious (and completely free to download). Composed entirely of fully destructible Lego brick structures and populated with Lego people (whose smug smirks you can blast off their tiny, yellow faces), it's definitely the world's most vivid simulation of what going postal in Legoland might be like -- and the cleverest map we've seen from the UT3 modding community so far.

In an interview with our sister site Joystiq, Epic VP Mark Rein made it known that no progress has been made in implementing user created content for the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III. While the PS3 version has been available for some time -- and features the ability to incorporate user created mods -- Rein stated that there is no set release date for the 360 version of the title. We must point out the irony -- as did Joystiq -- that this news has broken in the midst of Microsoft's new push for community content on the Xbox 360.How long it will take to sort out UTIII's mod problem -- and indeed whether or not it will even be solved at all -- remains a mystery.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/xbox/Unreal_Tournament_on_360_no_progress_on_mods'; Our prognosis for mods on the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3: not so good. In an interview with Joystiq, Epic Games' VP Mark Rein told us that there's no progress with Microsoft on making UT3 mods work with Xbox Live. One would think Microsoft would be more open to community content given the recent Xbox Live Community announcement, but Rein noted that the system is different. Rein said the Xbox 360 version has no set release date.Conversely, Rein did acknowledge the current PS3 mod system is less than stellar and told us to expect improvements coming soon. We'll have more from our interviews with Mark Rein, CEO Tim Sweeney, and Cliffy B later this week.

  • Rein still hoping MS will allow UT3 user content

In an interview with Guardian Unlimited, Epic's head honcho Mark Rein talks everything and anything Unreal Tournament 3, specifically development on the 360 version. What we learn is that team Epic has had UT3 up and running buttery smooth on the 360 for a while now and that the only development left is Xbox Live implementation. And speaking of Xbox Live, Rein is still pressing Microsoft about UT3's user generated content and how best to serve it up. It's no secret that Rein and Epic want Microsoft to allow free, open access to map mods a la the PS3 version and it's no secret Microsoft has been reluctant. According to Rein, "Microsoft hasn't said "no" yet, but then they haven't said "yes" either", but development is wrapping up and Rein needs answers soon. It'll be interesting to see where these discussions end up, but our money is on Microsoft standing firm and only allowing DLC through the XBLM. We'll see free community generated UT3 content, but only stuff that has been hand seleceted, certified and placed on the Marketplace.[Via TeamXbox]
