  • Pink Palm Pixi spotted on Sprint system, Cupid is like 'boomshakalaka'

You know what's in just over a month? We'll tell you: Valentine's Day. You know what's coming up this Thursday? Something "new" from Palm. Now, we won't go so far as to say that a pink Palm Pixi is definitely in the cards for a CES unveiling, but a pink Palm Pixi is most definitely showing up in Sprint's internal systems (according to this graphic, anyway). So, what say you, readers -- is a new hue of webOS just around the bend, or are we just lovestruck? [Thanks, Anonymous]

  • Patch 3.3 PTR: Love is in the Air Valentine's Event may get a new boss

    by

    10.02.2009

While most of us are probably still downloading the massive PTR files, as usual, some people have had more time than others to download them and root through them for gems and treasures. MMO Champion's database of new spells has revealed something pretty intriguing. Note the following list of spells: Concentrated Irresistible Cologne Spill Alluring Perfume Alluring Perfume Spray Cologne Immune Perfume Immune [ph] Exotic Cologne Perfume and Cologne, as you may recall, are two of the main parts of the Love is in the Air Valentine's Day related world event, wherein players exchange tokens with NPCs for fabulous prizes. Given that we now have a set of spells coming up that put those two substances in the context of damaging abilities that can be protected against, it seems like Kisirani and the world event team are ready to deliver again, and we'll possibly have a very interesting new boss this coming February. Unfortunately, we can't tell much else about it right now, although hopefully we may learn more as the PTR progresses and more data is found. It's worth noting that if the world event design team is creating a new level 80 boss for a February event, they may not be expecting Cataclysm to be out by then.

  • DIY Screw-Nut rings replace roses, express affection

Quick, guys! It's Valentine's Day! If you spent all week bringing home the cheddar and completely glossed over the need to buy flowers / chocolates / new cars / diamonds / Neil Diamond records, we've found just the thing to save your Saturday (and beyond). These DIY Screw-Nut rings aren't the most elaborate things in the world, but given that they'll be hand crafted by you, they pack an extraordinary amount of "aww" power. They're actually a spinoff of a more classy iteration, which saw the designer use 24-karat gold wedding bands and then add on the screw head and nut. We've heard that titanium and stainless steel will cut it if you're on a tight budget, but regardless of the chemical makeup, "it's the thought that counts."Read - Original projectRead - Cheaper method

With Valentines Day right around the corner, it would seem that everyone is looking for something to get their loved ones. While most might settle on candy, or other holiday items, would you ever think of writing your special someone a poem? Even if you've never written a sentence in your life, you can easily write a poem with Touch Poet [iTunes link] for iPhone.Touch Poet grabs word snippets from works by Edgar Allen Poe, Shakespeare, and Rudyard Kipling as well as Digg headlines and other news sources. When you tap on the right-pointing arrow in the app, words will be move out from behind the arrow. When you find a word that you want to use, you can drag it up to the top portion. The snippets of paper has a really great physics engine that makes it look as though you are actually touching it. If you don't like a word, or would like to choose a better word, then you can "throw" the piece of paper in the garbage shoot by tossing it towards the bottom right of the screen. If you can't seem to find a word that you like, you can input your own words by double-tapping on the bottom of the screen -- this will allow you to input your own word. If you tap the upward facing arrow you will have several options, namely the ability to select the source of your words. From here you can also Twitter your masterpiece or e-mail it straight to your loved one. You can get your hands on Touch Poet by visiting the iTunes App Store. It is currently on sale for $.99 (US) through Valentines Day; after then, it will go up to $2.99. %Gallery-44364%

  • Forget chocolates, Samsung offers pink NC10 for Valentine gifting

If a pink MSI Wind isn't the way to your significant other's heart, Samsung has an alternative for you in the form of a rose-colored NC10. The similarly-spec'd 10.2-inch netbook sports a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, and Windows XP Home. Additionally, it's got a suspiciously-long 7-hour battery life and anti-germ keyboard. UK retailer dabs has it listed for £316 ($434) with VAT and a February 9 release date. Let's just hope she doesn't lament the color choice come March. 01.20.2009

Oh sure, there's all manners of garb and chocolates that you could get your lover this Valentine's Day, but the true geek knows just how hard it is to pick up those all-too-clichéd items when it's a gadget you're really after. Enter MSI, who has just delivered the appropriately named Valentine Edition of its Wind U100 netbook just in time for that special holiday. If you'll recall, this isn't the first time MSI has outed a minuscule laptop oozing with romance, but this one boasts a limited edition label (figuratively, at least), a 6-cell battery, 160GB hard drive and a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor. You can purchase 2.6 pounds of lovey-dovey right now for $429.99, but you better act fast -- no lady worth having will accept the "my UPS guy didn't come through" excuse. The full release is after the break.

We know, Valentine's Day 2008 has come and gone, but if you've managed to hold on to your SO through the Hallmark-inspired holiday, chances are you won't need these services anyway. For those waking up solo, however, you should probably listen up. South Korea's KTF has launched a seductive new service -- rightfully dubbed Love Detector -- for its subscribers which will actually "analyze voice patterns to see if a lover is speaking honestly and with affection." In an interesting twist, the data is actually only shown to the customer who coughs up ???1,500 ($1.58) per month (or less per call), so don't expect to secretively find out if your lover has another lover waiting next door via voice analysis. • Yahoo! recommends Toshiba's HD-A3 as husband's Valentine's Day gift

    02.11.2008

For whatever reason, the author(s) of Yahoo!'s Valentine's Day gift guide for the husband saw fit to recommend Toshiba's HD-A3 HD DVD player, but didn't give any Blu-ray player as much as a noteworthy mention. You heard right -- rather than suggesting a combo player of some sort to make sure his favorite studio was covered no matter what, a single-format unit was listed and the Blu camp was effectively snubbed. 'Course, if you're trying to get across a slightly different message than the traditional one this Thursday, maybe the HD-A3 isn't such a bad choice after all (we jest, we jest).[Thanks, Anthony B.]

  • Newman's Valentine's Day DAP is so very appropriate

Isn't that cute? It's like two music players, but they make a heart! Oh, and look, there's a crack down the middle, it kind of looks just like two people kissing. Maybe you can stick the Juno soundtrack on there and give half this Newman DAP to that special someone. It's like giving a piece of your heart, only with plastic and silicon. What's that? She doesn't appreciate your finely honed taste in indie music? Well that's no problem, just glue the two players back together and look at what you've got: a broken heart. Yeah, we can tell that this February 14th will be one to remember.[Via Newlaunches]

  • Street Fighter IV to be playable at Japanese Amusement Expo Feb. 15

    01.19.2008

Valentine's Day is swiftly approaching, like a bullet train made out of chalky hearts and overpriced chocolate. How are you planning on spending yours? Gents, perhaps you're taking your special lady out for a candlelit dinner and a romantic comedy, perhaps starring Matthew McConaughey, or Jennifer Lopez, or both. Ladies, maybe you have a special evening at home planned for your man, involving a sizable steak and a selection of the most sensual massage oils.Well, screw that noise. You should be traveling to Japan on St. Hallmark's Day, where the cool kids will be attending the AOU 2008 Amusement Expo in an attempt to get a look at (and possibly play a few rounds of) Street Fighter IV before the rest of the world. Doors will open for industry people on the 15th of February, and for the rest of the Hadouken-hungry crowd on the 16th. Sure, you might be spending your Valentine's Day alone in a Japanese hotel, but you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you were the first kid on your block to play one of the biggest titles of 2008.After all, who needs love when you have Zangief?

Those crafty folk at Lionhead Studios must have taken a break from developing Fable 2. Why, you ask? Because they had time to come up with a nice Valentine for us all to share on this capitalist romantic holiday. It's not any ordinary Valentine either. Oh, no, this one is special. We won't spoil the surprise, save to say that this particular Valentine is unique. Check it out after the break. Don't say we didn't warn you, though.

Reader Chris emailed this to me-- he and his guildmates in Gnomeburgers on Suramar-H were running around doing the Valentine's Day quests together. One of them, an Orc named Gruulok, punched out a few lines of Orc poetry, and they are hilarious. (Yes, I know the image to the right is a Night Elf, not an Orc, but didn't you ever learn that Love is blind?)Sure, you might think that Orcs aren't very good at poetry, but I've heard my own Orc speak a few lines himself-- something about coming from the Orcs, eating with spoons and forks, and he loves to eat his pork. Gruulok's poetry is perhaps the best love poetry ever written in... well, I'm not quite sure what language this is. Orcish? If you're feeling a little Hordie (get it?) this evening, feel free to share these lines with your sweetie, and have a great Valentine's Day.Tru Ork luv leevez skarz an brewzez, an eben browken nowzez, but vilent luv iz much mor fun den duzenz o steenky rowzez. • Guards bugged in Silvermoon City

    02.13.2007

As a sidenote to the Valentine's Day guide from earlier: Don't even bother to try the Love quests in the new cities. As Memory from Scilla notes, the guards there are completely bugged-- in Silvermoon, guards talk about Stormwind (I even, as a Blood Elf, had one try to speak Dwarven to me). Now, Drysc says it's a known problem that has to do with the event itself, so if the problem isn't fixed soon, it'll go away for sure by Thursday, since that's when the Love event ends. And there's no real point to tooling around looking for love in the expansion cities anyway-- Kwee Q. Peddlefeet isn't there at all (because not all players, I suppose, have the expansion, and that would mess up the popularity contest, since all the rewards are city specific). So this isn't exactly the end of the world, even though when you get Heartbroken, it may seem like it.But for the moment, good luck trying to find your way around an expansion city you don't know. I was trying to find the Mage trainer in Silvermoon, and had to just give up and run back to the newbie area to train my new spells.

The Valentine's Day event started last week. Love, exciting and new, is in the air in Azeroth, and I sent my undead rogue, Punishment of Thunderhorn, to go looking for love in all the wrong places. He didn't exactly make time with Sylvanas Windrunner (she's such a banshee), but he was able to form a real odd couple. You can see his journey in the Gallery below, and get a firsthand look at just how love works in Azeroth. The event ends Thursday, so go through the guide below to see the ins and outs of finding your soulmate (or mates, as the case may be), and then get to it! Love is in the air! %Gallery-1608%

With Valentines Day around the corner, here's yet a TUAW gift idea for your special someone: iPod lingerie. For only $24, add a little spice to your someone's iPod and get into that Valentine's mood. Or if you don't have a special someone in your life, you can just dress up your iPod for the fun of it. Not that there's anything wrong with that. We at TUAW do not judge.
