Valkyria Chronicles 4 will be available on the Switch, but what if you never played the original and want to brush up on your WWII-inspired turn-based strategy? Don't worry, you're set. Sega has confirmed that the original Valkyria Chronicles will be available on Nintendo's system October 16th for $20, or $15 if you have the newest title in your Switch library. This isn't the remastered edition from 2016, so you might not get a visual extravaganza -- though you might not mind if you're defending Gallia in handheld mode.

For 99 percent of people, Valkyria Chronicles 4 might as well be called Valkyria Chronicles 2. The first game was a captivating war story that blended top-down strategy with third-person movement and gunplay. The second, admittedly decent title was stuck on the PlayStation Portable and the third instalment never made it to the West. Sega tried to revive the franchise last year with Valkyria Revolution, an action-focused spin-off, but it was panned by critics and fans alike. A true successor to the 2008 original has been an awfully long time coming.

Sega is finally making a proper sequel to Valkyria Chronicles. The original, which came out in 2008, was a refreshing blend of top-down strategy and third-person warfare. You led rookie officer Welkin Gunther and his makeshift squad through a fantasy-infused version of World War II. The tactical combat and watercolor artwork made it a cult hit, however Sega (until now, anyway) didn't seem interested in a console follow-up. Instead, the publisher released two sequels for the PlayStation Portable and a panned spin-off, Valkyria Revolution, for the PS4 and Vita earlier this year.

We missed out on the series finale of longtime favorite Castle, but there are plenty of finales left this week. As the NBA and NHL playoffs grind on, Fear the Walking Dead, Fresh Off the Boat, NCIS, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Empire, Black-ish, Grey's Anatomy, The Blacklist, The 100 and Grimm are just some of the shows wrapping up this week, and not all of them will be back next fall. As far as newcomers, Netflix is bringing season one of Maria Bamford in Lady Dynamite, while AMC takes another shot at a big new show with the comic book-inspired Preacher which premieres Sunday night. Gamers can experience Valkyria Chronicles Remastered on the PS4 along with Shadow of the Beast.

Valkyria Chronicles, Sega's strategy RPG that hit the PlayStation 3 in 2008, is getting an HD upgrade for a launch on PS4, Famitsu reports (as translated by Gematsu). The remake is confirmed for a release in Japan on February 10th, with no mention of North American plans just yet. Sega is also working on a new entry in the series, Valkyria: Azure Revolution, slated to hit Japanese PS4s in winter 2016, according to Gematsu. Valkyria Chronicles debuted on PC in November 2014, and while that wasn't an HD remake, it featured dual-language support, Steam Achievements, customization options and all previously released DLC -- not bad for $20.
