  • Sony reveals Home integration for Resistance, Uncharted, Warhawk

Worried that game integration with Playstation Home will just be trophies, trailers and t-shirts? Well, so were we, actually. Luckily, Kotaku's learned some interesting details about the Home integration of Warhawk, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Resistance: Fall of Man. Turns out its way cooler than we thought. Warhawk will reportedly allow up to eight players to meet in a "war room" prior to a match, mapping out strategies on "sand table" replicas of each level. Once they're ready to go, players can jump right into an online Warhawk match from the Home interface. A nice touch, indeed. Resistance and Uncharted, meanwhile, will give Home users access to full unpopulated levels from the games, allowing players to casually walk through battlefields with their Home avatars. In addition to this killer feature, Resistance will allow players to explore unseen portions of the game, and locate radio transmissions that further explain the storyline. Uncharted will feature a Contra-style 2D shooter that launches from Home. Consider us floored. We can't wait to see these features in action. • GDC08: Warhawk DLC will continue "as long as the community exists"

Dylan Jobe, in an interview with 1UP, confirmed that Operation Broken Mirror, the rumoured Warhawk expansion, is currently in production. The booster pack will feature a new battlefield (that'll be "Vaporfield Gl..." then) as well as a new vehicle - an Armoured Personnel Carrier that will function as a portable spawn point and equipment producer. Sounds exciting. We're looking forward to seeing more. No doubt Jobe will have a post up on the PlayStation.Blog within the next couple of weeks. He just can't seem to stay away from it.Jobe also stated that new booster packs will be released "as long as the community exists". New game modes and features will continue to be released in free patches (much like the v1.3 patch that should be hitting the PSN before too long). Splitting content between patches and booster packs means "you can always get free stuff and you always have to option to buy certain content", which we consider to be an excellent philosophy. Finally, Jobe denies that Single Player expansions will ever be released for this iteration of the game, but is definitely something they want to look at for future titles. Whether that's the next Warhawk game, or an entirely different franchise, we look forward to seeing it.

  • Upcoming Warhawk expansion hinted at on PS.Blog

Dylan Jobe's latest post on the PlayStation.Blog was a long list of upcoming features for Warhawk's v1.3 patch. Not only that, but the post also contained a number of subtle hints towards a future expansion. In the image above, showing how Home-launched Warhawk games will appear in the server list, is a listing for a level, "Vaporfield Gl...", that isn't currently available. When asked by a commenter about an expansion listing that has appeared on a number of PSN release date lists under the name of "Operation Broken Mirror", Dylan oh-so-subtly remarks on how interesting his own ASCII art looks. Clicking on the ASCII art at the bottom of his post takes you to this image. It's a broken mirror! How clever. No doubt we'll be hearing more about this before too long, especially with GDC happening next week. If we learn anything new, we'll be sure to let you know.

  • Warhawk v1.3 will bring new items, better VOIP, Home integration

That lovable rascal Dylan Jobe, Game Director of Warhawk, has posted up some info on the PlayStation.Blog regarding an upcoming update to the game. Version 1.3 has a huge feature list and will introduce some new gameplay elements whilst improving on various server options and online mechanics. The best thing about it though? It'll be completely free. There are no new maps or vehicles (this is an update, not an expansion) but instead the game will be further improved with the inclusion of two new items for ground-troops. The Bio-Field Generator acts as a personal healing station that can be placed down like a mine and the Field Mechanic's Wrench is a one-hit-kill melee weapon that doubles as a quick-repair for vehicles. On top of this, the 1.3 patch will introduce better VOIP options as well as new paint schemes for the air-based vehicles chosen from the ongoing Warhawk Paint & Insignia contest. Finally, Dylan mentions that their Home integration is coming along really nicely and that v1.3 will utilise game launching from inside Home. A great, much anticipated, feature. Interesting that we're seeing its implementation so soon, considering Home still has a TBA release date. Speaking of releases, when can we expect to see this update? It's in testing at the moment, with no expected release date for now. Hopefully we'll hear something more specific very soon. If you want to read more about the update (and you do) check out the post on the PlayStation.Blog. Oh yeah, did we mention this will all be free?[Thanks Hunter and Chubbs]

There are a lot of hardcore Warhawk fans on PS3 Fanboy. But how many of you are also artists as well? Sony wants to know, and is hosting a new contest, where you must submit your paint and insignias for good old fashioned prizes. Winners will not only have their content featured within the game (a la Folklore), but will also receive a special limited edition statue. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to us.For complete details on how to enter, visit the PlayStation.blog.

Warhawk Price: $5.99 Original Release Date: November 10, 1995 Not Recommended. It seems unfair to capitalize on the popularity of the PS3 multiplayer game, Warhawk. Although largely heralded when it first arrived on PS1 more than a decade ago, it's clear that this PS1 legend hasn't aged well. Every aspect of the game feels antiquated, from the dated visuals, painful cinemas, and frustrating controls that simply don't translate well on the PSP (the PS3 controller works far better). An ominous feeling sinks in when you experience the game's introductory sequence. Real actors are rarely used in modern game cinemas -- for good reason! While there is a certain charm in the camp on display, the cinematics do little do actually further the paper-thin story that's being told. The PS1 original has as much narrative as the PS3 sequel (that is, none at all).

Who doesn't love Wal-Mart? A lot of people, apparently, but their influence in most things consumer-related is undeniable despite your personal beliefs. This is why we took note of their latest advertisements for the PlayStation 3. They're obsessed. We've got one video above for Heavenly Sword and we've got three more waiting for you after the jump. We know the heart of Wal-Mart is in us all, but by the power of Grayskull, we just can't pass up those deals.

In addition to updating the PlayStation Network store, Sony has updated its online PC counterpart to include the original PS One title Warhawk as a downloadable game. The price is still the same, $5.99, and you can transfer the game from your Memory Stick-equipped PSP to your PS3 so long as you are signed in to the PSN account that originally bought the game. The other major title to arrive on the PC PS Store, according to the official PlayStation blog, is SOCOM US Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo for $14.99, as well as a trailer for the game an a handful of others including the Metal Gear Solid 4 Tokyo Game Show footage. Those are not up at the store yet, however. Full list of PC PS Store updates after the break.

This week's batch of PlayStation Network content is pretty massive - "our biggest ever," according to the official US PlayStation blog. There's a catch, of course, in that PSN will not be updated next Thursday (also known as Christmas Eve). Enough pouting, let's open our presents a week early!Warhawk fans have the most gifts under the tree this week, with the already-opened Omega Dawn expansion, a free theme, a game video of the expansion and (gasp!) the original Warhawk PS One title downloadable as a classic for play on either the PS3 or PSP. Rhythm fans also get a tasty sampler of the usual Rock Band DLC and a free Guitar Hero III song, the holiday-themed "We Three Kings" (strangely absent from the list: the premium GH3 songs for this week).Downloadable games include Toy Home, Snakeball and two PS Eye games: Trials of Topoq and Mesmerize: Distort. A demo for Blacksite: Area 51 is also out, and those looking for more festive updates can check out the free Folklore DLC and PAIN wallpaper. Full update list after the break; check out our sister site PS3 Fanboy for European PSN update info.Update: So apparently we have two fewer days to shop for Christmas gifts than we thought. Hmph.

  • Warhawk expansion arrives day early, free for a few

Warhawk expansion Operation Omega Dawn arrived unexpectedly on PSN today, 24 hours before it was set to go live. What's more, when it first made its premature debut, it was (due to a glitch) accompanied by the bargain price tag of "Free." A few wicked folks (the same people that take a pack of mints without leaving a quarter for Jerry's Kids) managed to take advantage, but it looks like the kink in the system was worked out fairly quickly. The good news is that the pack was left up, so fans can still take advantage of the early appearance, as long as they cough up their $7.99. If you were unaware, the pack adds five new night-time maps, a new dropship and for a few (ahem) unscrupulous early adopters, the unshakable stench of shame.

  • Operation Omega Dawn already available? For free? [UPDATE]

We're in two minds whether to post this news because the last thing we want is for Incognito to lose money on the sterling work they've put into Operation Omega Dawn for Warhawk. Unfortunately, it seems that some people are able to already download the expansion which isn't supposed to go live tomorrow. Not only that, but the update is listed as free and removes no money from your PlayStation Store wallet. Hopefully Incognito will notice this soon and will fix things so that no-one else can download the expansion early. Yesterday's PlayStation.Blog post stated that the game servers will be offline for six hours today while they "roll out" the patch (which is now available, by the way). There's just under two hours to go until this maintainence is due to be completed, yet the server list is as populated as ever.[UPDATE] It seems that the price glitch has been sorted out, but the booster pack itself hasn't been taken down. That is to say, Operation Omega Dawn has been released a day early. Go get!

The PlayStation.blog was recently updated with answers to some questions fans have had about the upcoming Omega Dawn expansion for Warhawk. The upcoming DLC will be available on December 20th and will cost $8. The free 1.2 patch for the game will arrive the day before. As the FAQ reveals, the expansion can be purchased both within the game environment and through the Store. One of the more important things to note is the way the game will indicate which games include content from the expansion pack. If you do have everything needed to play a certain game, you'll get a green indicator. However, if you're missing some content that needs to be installed, you'll see a yellow or red indicator, and an option to purchase any missing content.Incognito will continue working on Booster Packs so long as there's demand for them, although it's unlikely we'll ever get a free booster pack. Thankfully, for those that are just as cheap as us, the Warhawk experience will continue to improve with free game patches. "Our patches like the v1.2 update that gives you new server features and new layouts will always be FREE. I'm a firm believer that an online game needs to continue to fix bugs and exploits but also add new value for the player community." That's something, right?%Gallery-11149%

When relatives come to visit for the holidays, it's helpful to have excuses to get yourself out of family activities like tree trimmings or interventions. For example, Eurogamer tells us that on Dec. 20, you'll be able to say "Sorry, Grandma, I can't go to the nickelodeon to watch the new Buster Keaton picture with you, as I just spent my last $7.99 buying the new Warhawk expansion, Omega Dawn." As she stares at you quizzically, you can explain how the pack adds five new night-time maps and even a new vehicle, the KT-424 Combat Dropship, capable of carrying a pilot and seven soldiers. As you explain the pack in detail, she'll drift off to sleep with visions of a young Robert Loggia dancing in her head, and you'll be free to get back to the important business of insulating yourself from loved ones.

We've given the new Warhawk expansion quite a lot of exposure because, to be frank, we're excited about it. Now we know exactly when the update will arrive on the European PSN Store and how much it costs, thanks to ThreeSpeech. At only £3.99 the expansion, which includes a new level and a new vehicle, is incredibly affordable and will make a nice Christmas present to the Warhawk community when it releases on December 20th.[Update: America will also receive the expansion on the 20th as well. It will be priced $7.99.][Thanks, Albert M.!]%Gallery-11149%

Sony has announced that an expansion for the addictive online war-a-thon Warhawk will be released in the run up to Christmas. This extensive add on, known as Operation: Omega Dawn, will feature an entirely new map as well as a new vehicle. The new map, Omega Factory, is promised to be the largest yet and will be "an industrial night-time setting where players will fight through five new layouts of advanced building complexes and huge industrial towers."The old levels will all be augmented to include the new vehicle - the KT-424 Combat Dropship. This flying behemoth will be able to carry up to six footsoldiers and one ground-based vehicle. It will also feature a new weapon - the MBEC-3 Heavy Support Cannon. There's no word on how much this expansion will cost, nor an exact release date. Regardless, we're definitely looking forward to seeing our favourite online experience further improved.

  • Warhawk expands in December with new maps, dropship

Sony has confirmed plans for a downloadable expansion to its multiplayer-only shooter Warhawk, echoing news broken last month in Game Informer magazine. The expansion, titled Omega Dawn, will drop in December, and will add five new industrial-themed maps -- all set at night for "added impact and tension" -- which Sony claims to offer the largest combat areas in the game so far. That's all well and good, but we need new toys as well, and here Sony will include the KT-424 Combat Dropship, inside which you will be able to cram seven soldiers, a pilot, and a ground vehicle for efficient, if not terribly comfortable combat fun. The dropship also packs a new weapon, the MBEC-3 Heavy Support Cannon, which if anything certainly sounds impressive, and the new vehicle will be usable on any of the existing or newly added maps, which incidentally will support all of Warhawk's different game modes. With December just a few short days away, Omega Dawn's price has unfortunately not yet been revealed, so in taking a page from The Price is Right -- 'How much would you pay?'
