If you've been looking for a good excuse to go back to Warhawk, you may have one today, as our dear friends at PS3 Fanboy are reporting that the 1.1 patch for the game is available now. In case you've forgotten since we last talked about it, the patch is largely under-the-hood fixes to improve performance. (We've put the full list after the jump.)As a reminder, as of today you'll also want to be on the lookout for "Arbiters," a crack team charged with infiltrating games and snuffing out shenanigans. They'll be keeping an eye peeled for cheating (which we bet will make them a fairly easy kill.)

We were informed that when this post goes live, the Warhawk patch will be readied. The game's servers will be down for maintenance as the 1.1 patch gets delivered to thousands of eager fans. The downtime will end at 9AM PST, 12PM EST and will include the following features: Server-side * Stat database stability improvements* Improved server stability* Max Clan limit changed from 32 to 64* Viral Rank-up bug fixed and correct for players that were accidentally ranked up.* "Time-in-Vehicle" Stats fixed so certain awards can now be granted properly. Client-side (this is the one that you will actually download to your PS3)* Stat connection, fetch/post fixes* Significantly improved client connection stability* Quad "????" Ping display bug fixed.* Added support for Player-Ranked Servers.* Game synchronization fixes due to fluctuating network conditions (packet-drop).* Crash fixes for end of game and split screen. We haven't played a game of Warhawk in a while, but this new patch is certainly incentive to dust off the old Blu-ray disc and start another set of matches. Hope to see you online.

Dylan Jobe is at it again with another PlayStation.Blog post. This time to let us know that Warhawk patch version 1.1 accidentally slipped out into the public. Some players in the US with the Blu-Ray version of the game were able to download and install version 1.1 before it had finished it's internal testing procedure at Sony. The update has since been removed from the PlayStation Network.Anyone who installed the update is required to delete their Warhawk data from the Game Data Utility section of the XMB. Jobe assures us that save data and stats will not be affected. The real release of version 1.1 is still targeted for the end of this month. You never know, those extra few days of testing could make all the difference.

We don't know if you've been keeping up with Warhawk, but the dev team has been working on plenty of fixes and tweaks for the game, so much so that we thought a brief check-in was in order. Coming your way at the end of the month will be patch 1.1. This patch is pure under-the-hood stuff, improving connections, stability and fixing a few glitches. The patch will also add "Arbiters," officials who'll take to games and make sure that all of the players are on the up-and-up. Think Air Marshals for Warhawk.Following that, there's already another patch (1.2) in testing. This will add some new layouts as well as some more customization options for your matches. Some other new features are also added by the patch, including the addition of support for the DualShock 3. Wow, next-gen delivery methods meet last-gen tech. Inspiring.

  • Warhawk patch 1.2 to fix tank glitch, add integrated Store, rumble support

Not only is Incognito hard at work on Warhawk 1.1, they're working on another future patch, 1.2. This revision will finally take care of that dreaded "tank" glitch, which according to the PlayStation.blog also affected turrets and Warhawks. Additionally, the patch will include a new integrated Store interface, so you can download upcoming Booster Packs from within the game. The 1.2 update also adds rumble support for DualShock 3 controllers. Of course, this will be a moot point for most -- the controllers won't be commercially available in the US this year anyways. So when is this magical update supposed to appear? In December. Until then, we'll have to patiently wait for patch 1.1.

If you've been keeping an eye on the PlayStation.Blog you will have noticed that Dylan Jobe has recently posted up a nice piece of news regarding Warhawk. Several pieces, actually. To begin with, Warhawk version 1.1 is on its way and will arrive sometime before the end of October (that's this month, by the way). The update doesn't add anything to the gameplay but, instead, is mostly focused on stability and glitch fixing and will work alongside recent stability fixes on the server side. This is great for those of us who still suffer from weird stats errors (we get rank increases almost every time we login) or who still can't make it onto ranked servers. The full patch list can be found after the jump. The second big announcement involved new Warhawk police - called Arbiters - who will be overlooking the leaderboards and who will be joining games in order to maintain the Warhawk peace. With guns. They have a wide array of punishments at their disposal including kicking, banning and sending harshly worded emails to you and your parents. So if any of you are sneaky cheaters then you'd best watch out - the Arbiters are after you. Finally, Jobe mentions an announcement regarding update v1.2 coming soon. This will probably be the December expansion we've been hearing so much little about. We'll keep you posted.

  • Warhawk, fl0w expanding in December

Expansions are coming for popular Playstation Network titles fl0w and Warhawk, according to Game Informer magazine. Firing Squad reports that a recent issue of the magazine reveals expansions in development for both downloadable titles, with planned releases in December. The Warhawk expansion will introduce a dropship into the game, which can pick up and relocate ground vehicles. The fl0w expansion, meanwhile, will add a multiplayer mode to the abstract game, as well as a new playable creature. While expansions for Warhawk are a no-brainer, it remains to be seen how typical downloadable content will fit in with the incredibly atypical fl0w.

  • Rumor: Warhawk add-on coming in December?

Just when you thought you may have had enough of Warhawk, rumors are surfacing about a new pack of goodies due out in December for the online-only title. What's in this rumored pack, you ask? It seems the main draw of the expansion is a new vehicle -- something that launches missiles, or can airlift things, or shoot lasers out of its ears. Well, not the last one, but without official confirmation, it might as well get added to the list. Incognito's own Dylan Jobe didn't confirm the update, but did imply some are on their way when he said "we will further update the community with additional server-side updates, as well as client-side patches." Guess we'll find out the truth in December![via CVG]

  • Warhawk soundtrack available on iTunes next week

Lair won't be the only PS3 game soundtrack on iTunes. Next week, the soundtrack to Warhawk joins the growing list of downloadable game scores on Apple's music service.Christopher Lennertz and Timothy Wynn both worked on the soundtrack, which was performed by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. The duo ended up recording over 100 minutes of music over the course of a 6-day period.Adding such a symphonic score is no easy task, and the team at Incognito had to create a suitable way of applying the music to the gameplay experience. According to a 1UP report, it appears that the music is triggered by the amount of enemy fire near the player. "If a certain threshold of enemy gunfire is met, the combat music starts to play." Listen to samples of the soundtrack before its release at 1UP.

Finally. A cheaper Warhawk will be available for the masses at retail later this month. By losing the headset, a new Blu-ray version of Warhawk will hit store shelves for $40, the same price as its digitally distributed counterpart. Some may ask, "what's the point?" While others, who may want to play the game on multiple systems, will cheer.[Via Joystiq]

  • Sony to release $39.99 retail Warhawk this month

Maybe you're the type of person who's still a slave to physical media. Maybe you have a crush on the girl at your local GameStop, maybe you're trying to make your shelf of PS3 games more respectable. Whatever your excuse, Sony has you covered, confirming that they'll be releasing a $39.99 retail version of Warkhawk that doesn't include Bluetooth headset this month. As you may remember, the game is currently just available in a $60 retail package with a headset or in a $40 downloadable form. Though the GameStop listing that originally started this story puts the game at an Oct. 10 release date, Sony has not confirmed that part of the story. We're not going to try to understand the logic behind this SKU, though we wouldn't be surprised if it's (in part) a bit of retailer placation. That's right game store, you're not threatened at all by full, downloadable games that don't even require people to get off their couches. Just go back to sleep, pumpkin.

  • Warhawk demo looking unlikely

Those still mulling the decision to unleash the hawks of war and engage in multiplayer-only combat will have to seek guidance from strangers and streamed video. The one whose opinion you trust the most (that's you!) won't be trying out a Warhawk demo anytime soon, GameDaily BIZ has learned. When asked about the possibility of a downloadable demo, a Sony representative expressed concern that it might not adequately convey the game's 32-player chaos. "In a demo version of a multiplayer only game, there is little control over how many players will be on a dedicated server at a time, potentially leading to smaller online battles that do not fully do justice to the title's fast combat and frantic play."The representative also pointed towards Warhawk's beta, which plucked up 10,000 participants and offered "a wide audience ample opportunity to experience the game and provide valuable feedback to during Warhawk's development." We're not sure how "wide" an audience that was when compared to the number a demo would reach, but it seems Sony's all or nothing approach extends to all games that involve swooping.[Via PS3 Fanboy]

  • 100,000 units in a week? Good job, Warhawk!

Even though we don't trust VGChartz as far as we can throw them (and seeing how they're an intangible object, that's not very far at all), it's still worth noting they've kept track of Warhawk sales since its release. The result is quite positive: 100,000 units had been bought or downloaded one week after the game launched. What's more, these numbers only correlate to America, not Japan or "Others", unless the graph is incorrect. We'd like to revisit these numbers in a month to see how the title has done worldwide. In any case, hats off, Warhawk, for making your game sales soar into the sky, or some other motivational statement![via Digg]

  • Don't wait for a Warhawk demo (it won't happen)

Sony's been really good about making downloadable demos for all of its first-party titles. However, both Warhawk and Lair have released, sans demo. Why is that? Considering Warhawk's incredible quality, we thought that Sony would want to give players a taste.Well, it looks like a demo will never come out for this online-only game. SCEA responded to GameDaily BIZ: "Warhawk was designed to support up to 32-players online simultaneously. In a demo version of a multiplayer only game, there is little control over how many players will be on a dedicated server at a time, potentially leading to smaller online battles that do not fully do justice to the title's fast combat and frantic play. Additionally, Warhawk development underwent an extensive beta trial that included nearly 10,000 participants, which offered a wide audience ample opportunity to experience the game and provide valuable feedback to during Warhawk's development."So, it looks like the beta was the only free chance you had at the game. You're just going to have to trust us: Warhawk is good, and you will like it (provided you can actually sign in on firmware 1.92 ... )

Warhawk has gone through a rather bumpy development cycle. Originally slated to be an epic single player game with a strong multiplayer component, rumors started circulating earlier this year that Incognito was experiencing development problems and were unhappy with the single player portion of the game. The murmurings turned out to be true, with Sony confirming just a couple of weeks later that Warhawk had officially become a multiplayer-only PlayStation Store title and that the single player portion of the game had been dropped.Though a lot of people took this announcement as a portent of doom for Warhawk (dropping half your game so late in development is never a good sign), a highly successful beta during the summer was able to garner a quite a bit of positive press for the game. This combined with some glowing previews made the public suddenly a lot more interested in Incognito's foray into online warfare. So did they pull it off?

  • Motorstorm gets patched to 2.0

For PS3 owners who've been battling it out in Warhawk, having to actually put a disc into your console to play MotorStorm must seem positively last-gen. With a new patch released today, perhaps the positively dirrty racer is trying to prove that, though its soul may be locked in a disc, it too can glean content from the "Information Superhighway." Below is the list of new features. Vehicle Select enhancement – your last-used vehicle in each class will now be presented as the default choice during vehicle selection. Assigned player colours are now displayed in the lobby to make keeping track of your friends and rivals easier during online races and Eliminator matches. Further Player-Stat Improvements. Purchasers of 'Coyote Revenge' can now race this track in Online and Time Attack. Purchasers of Eliminator Mode will find results from this mode also contribute to their Fame Ranking. Track Exploits for Grizzly and Raingod Mesa have been addressed. Headset support – An occasional firewall conflict with headset communications has been resolved. Headset support – voice comms output now available exclusively through headset. Are you tempted yet? Yes, you have to sully yourself by interacting with physical media, but isn't that nostalgic fun to you PS3 owners by now?[Via PS3 Fanboy]

Though U.S. and PAL gamers have the choice of purchasing Warhawk in store, Japanese gamers are only getting the option to download the title onto their PlayStation 3's hard drive (via IGN). The game is coming to the Japanese PlayStation Network on October 4.Of course, having only one method of delivery and a delayed release does have its merits, as multiplayer mayhem will only cost Japan 3,800 yen -- at current conversion rates, that's approximately US $32.%Gallery-1945%

  • Dylan Jobe talks Warhawk, downloadable content, more

In a thorough interview with GamePro, Dylan Jobe talked about the hard decision to make Warhawk a multiplayer-only title, and things learned from the beta. A fascinating read, to be sure, and we hope you take a chance to check out GamePro's complete interview. One thing that stood out to us was Incognito's plans for downloadable content. "It's not content that we cut to hold back and later jam down the throats of players," he says. "What we do with our downloadable content is to look at the feedback from players and develop content that supplements their experience, not just rehashes stuff that we perhaps descoped previously."The beta revealed many things that the team wants to add to the game, but simply hasn't found the time. "We were able to collect a lot of feedback from the beta. There were a lot of really great ideas that it was to late to incorporate, but we ear marked to perhaps come back to it and put it in future." Additional brainstorming ideas will undoubtedly come back from fans and players like you. "We also have a team that will scour all of the forums for Warhawk feedback on Warhawk.com so that we can make sure that our first outing of downloadable content matches what players want." Of course, we think players want to know: when will downloadable content arrive ... and how much will it cost?

  • Warhawk available for download in Europe

Warhawk is now available to download on the European PSN Store and has been for a few hours. The price is £19.99 and the size of the file is 798 megabytes in size; that's smaller than some demos that are currently available. At the moment Warhawk is the only new addition to the European store, though we're expecting the normal late-afternoon update to happen as well. Though this goes against SCEE's reasoning for not releasing it on the 28th, as it was in America. No matter, it's out now. So stop reading this and get downloading! We'll have a full PSN update post for you later in the day -- if it happens.

  • Warhawk early impressions -- say goodbye to your life

Warhawk hit the PlayStation Store yesterday and the positive reviews have been pouring in. Our review is coming as well, but in the meantime we wanted to post our early thoughts on Incognito's impressive shooter. Even after our relatively short play time (~five hours), we feel confident saying that this is one of the most addictive online experiences you can have on the PS3 -- or any console for that matter. It's worth pointing out though, that as good as Warhawk is so far, our experience was initially tainted just by the difficulty of just downloading the game. True, we did download it right after it was released but it took nine tries for Sony to actually add money to our PlayStation Store wallet. During this time, we ran into multiple PS Store errors and timeouts, saw images fail to load and generally experienced weirdness while trying to navigate the store. It was incredibly frustrating but after about an hour of trying, we finally were able to purchase Warhawk and queue up the 800 MB download.
