Yes, indeed, after a short trip away from the podcast, I will be back on tomorrow afternoon, live on WoW Radio at 3:30pm EST. Turpster is supposed to be there as well, and both John Petricelli (the Big Bear Butt blogger) and Matthew Rossi (who, I hear, once wrestled a bear and won) will be on the show with us. It'll be a rip-roaring adventure as, I'm sure, we'll chat about all the recent changes in patch 2.4, as well as all the kerfluffle over tanking and protection specs, and why Blizzard is banning a famous Arena hunter. We'll also hit on when patch 2.4 might go live, and of course we'll be reading listener email (which you can send to us at theshow@wow.com).Should be fun, and I don't know about the rest of the guys, but since I'm in Chicago, I'll likely be celebrating St. Patrick's Day, so I'll bring green beer along (for everyone of age, of course). Tune in to WoW Radio tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm EST to join us for the WoW Insider Show, the best bear-related WoW podcast you'll ever find.

  • WoW Insider Show Episode 28: Lifetap, Lifebloom and online antics

    03.11.2008

The 28th episode of the WoW Insider Show included myself, blogger Amanda Dean, Druid columnist John Patricelli and Turpster in an hour of lively discussion on this week's hot topics. Stories covered included: The debate raged on over when, or even if, is it acceptable to go afk without notice? The latest rollbacks on the PTR for Warlocks and Shaman and why players shouldn't be ready to quit over temporary tests on that server Blizzard so cleverly dubbed the Test server. The effects of the Lifebloom nerf and how Blizzard may have not seen the results they were looking for. Amanda Dean talks about introducing her Mom (hi Amanda's Mom!) to WoW and how she is handling her first few levels in Azeroth Each participant on the show gave their personal opinion on what playable race they would choose if a new one were introduced to the game. If you missed the show, there are plenty of ways for you to listen today including the Flash player on the WoW Radio site, free iTunes download or mp3 file. And you can listen in live every Saturday at 3:30p ET on WoW Radio.[Listen] to this week's show.[iTunes] Subscribe to the podcast in iTunes.[RSS] Get your favorite reader in on the fun.

  • WoW Things Considered interviews Vis Maior

    03.10.2008

As scheduled, our good friend Duncor (and his co-host Cadwallion) on WoW Radio's WoW Things Considered podcast sat down for an interview with three guildies from Vis Maior, the guild that's been rolling through the PTR so far. It's a good interview -- Duncor and Cadwallion go through Vis Maior's (not Vis Major) history, how they've moved on to the PTR and begun raiding there, and what they think of the new content. It's interesting to hear not only from a guild that has been around for a while, but is just now coming into the spotlight. And it's also cool to hear what the GMs are doing for the guilds testing the new content on the PTR -- they've deathtouched trash a few times, and even spawned "flaskators," which are NPCs which will give out consumables and other raiding standbys. They also tackle the debate of whether "world firsts" actually count on the PTRs. Vis Maior does agree that PTR kills don't necessarily count if they're just being tested, but a world first kill of a "final" version of a boss should count. Duncor and Cad don't press them on this, unfortunately, but I'd disagree -- the only way you know a boss is final is if it is on the live realms, so only live realms should count. Still, Vis Maior sound like a great bunch of people (they sound like they really love to raid, which is always good for a high-end guild), and what they've done so far on the PTRs is definitely impressive. Kudos to them, and nice job to WoW Radio on the interview.

Turpster wasn't actually around for this episode of our podcast, but just in case you really enjoy his tunes (that we usually play during music breaks on the live show), both of his albums are now available for download in the WoW Insider Show forums. Enjoy. And the latest episode of the WoW Insider Show is also up for your listening pleasure right now on WoW Radio -- in this, Episode 27, Duncor, Daniel Whitcomb, and John "BigBearButt" Petricelli and I sat down and talked about the biggest issues in the last week in Warcraft: We hit up reader email as usual, including whether the game is more "carebear" than it used to be, whether Blizzard should update pre-60 quests, and exactly how you can impress your guild's officers and class leads We chatted about the Warlock's Lifetap nerf and what it means for the rest of the game Does it matter to us exactly what classes the CMs or the devs play? And we had a small bit of commentary about the results of our patch 2.4 guess contest Plus much, much more. Make sure to give it a listen -- you can use any of the links below to jump right in and hear our podcast. And don't forget, we do this every Saturday, so next weekend at 3:30pm EST, you can tune in to WoW Radio and hear us do this live. See you then.[Listen] to this week's show.[iTunes] Subscribe to the podcast in iTunes.[RSS] Get your favorite reader in on the fun.

  • WoW Radio seeks your questions for Vis Maior

    03.03.2008

We've mentioned this a couple of times on the WoW Insider Show already, but just in case you've missed it, here's a reminder that Duncor and Cadwallion of WoW Radio are going to be interviewing Vis Maior, the guild that is cleaning up the bosses on the patch 2.4 PTR server so far, this Friday, March 7th at 7pm EST. And they're looking for questions from you -- if you've got something you want to know from the guild, just drop your suggested question in this thread over on the WoW Radio forums. When we asked Duncor about it on Saturday, he said one of the things he wants to ask is whether Sunwell is progressively harder than Black Temple and Hyjal or if it's equal to those, and though Blizzard has said Sunwell is meant to be the hardest raid instance (the end of Burning Crusade's endgame, basically), I'm interested to hear that answer. And I also would like to hear some discussion on a question suggested by The_Milkcat in that thread, about the difference between world first kills on the PTR and on the live realms. So it should be a good interview. Throw your suggested questions in the forum thread if you have them, and make sure to tune in to WoW Radio on this Friday, March 7th, at 7pm EST to hear Duncor and Cadwallion chat with Vis Maior.

Every week, hardworking Massive gaming fans put their voices on the line to bring us news, opinions, and 'critiques' of their favorite games. Podcasts are a staple of many hobbies nowadays, and fans of online worlds are especially fortunate in this regard ... there are a ton out there. As such, every so often we'll try to update you on the podcasting world. Keep your eyes on this space for links to your favorite MMO-commentary celebs. Good and bad, straight-man or blue-mouthed, they all have something to offer about this amazing style of gameplay. This week I want to highlight a podcast that deals with things both reptilian and subterranean. Specifically, DDOcast. These folks are dedicated and connected, and the result is that every episode features some in-depth information you'd only be likely to see if you were embedded into the Dungeons and Dragons Online forums. They consistently have great information from and on the developers, and have a special knack for telegraphing their enthusiasm to the listener; their appreciation for the game is infectious. This week is especially worth listening to, as they have a great interview with tabletop RPG designer Keith Baker. He was the original developer of the Eberron setting, the world in which DDO is set. He unveils some great information on an upcoming project probably quite dear to DDO players, and shares a few of his own thoughts on the game. A great listen, and well worth fitting into your day.

Episode 22 of The WoW Insider Show is now available streaming on the WoW Radio site. Turpster, Matthew Rossi (our Warrior & Shaman class columnist) and I mixed it up about a number of current topics, including: Theories behind the fake patch notes. Are players creating these to let Blizzard know what they'd like to see? Predictions about the leaked Sunwell loot making it to the live servers. The lack of new information lately on the Wrath expansion and the impact of announcing only 1 Heroic class. The Sunwell Plateau 25-man progression and Blizzard's lack of focus on new content for high end raiders until now WoW's new subscriber base of 10 million. What does this means in terms of the MMO landscape? In addition to those conversations, we had a number of fun diversions into Paladin issues, Druid Feral tanking and Turpsters obsession with tea.Join us every week on Saturday at 3:30pm EST for an hour of live debate on The WoW Insider Show.

We'll be covering the hot topics of the week including the fake patch notes, phat Sunwell lootz and WoW hitting the 10 million subscriber mark. Plus the controversy of the lack of new 25 man content, the lack of new info on the upcoming expansion and whatever strange tangent Turpster will drag us out on.And if you want to join in on the conversation you can either log on to the #wowradio channel at irc.wowirc.com or e-mail you comments and questions to theshow@wow.com. • WoW Idol voting begins

WoW Radio (home of our illustrious podcast) has announced the finalists in their WoW Idol contest, and you can listen to and vote on them right now over on their web site. There are a ton of interesting choices, too, from Sevhnn's dance-hop flavored "MS Warrior Tribute," to Selserene and Rob Munsch's delicate classical turns on Azerothian themes.I have to say that I especially like Jeff Wichtowski's "Keep the Tank from Dying," just because it sounds so perfectly like one of those songs. But these are all good-- "Strength and Honor" from Liquidator and Threat sounds good (is that a Fort Minor sample at the end?), and "I Smile When I Gank" (by Daryl Brewer, who apparently won the last WoW Idol) is hilarious (love the backing vocals), and the Hyskelettes' "Heal!" is a great Beatles cover/parody.But only one can be the WoW Idol popular choice, and win some great prizes (WoW Radio has also added some new ones in-- I believe the winners are also going to get some Winter's Veil boxes from Upper Deck). So definitely run over there and get your vote in ASAP.

Good and bad, straight-man or blue-mouthed, they all have something to offer about this amazing style of gameplay.Something happened this month that only occurs roughly once a glacial cycle, and I want to make sure to point it out: WoWcast put out a new episode. Not only that, but Alachia (WoWcast host) has updated twice since the beginning of January. I kid cuz I care, you see: the last time Alachia put up a new episode was in September, in the wake of BlizzCon, so it's been a pleasant surprise to hear from her so much in 2008. Her show is well worth listening to, despite the infrequent updates. She has a soulful quality to her solo discussions of in-game events, a contemplative tact that makes for some really thought-provoking stuff. Without a doubt one of the most interesting World of Warcraft podcasts out there. To be honest, she's just a touch emo. But I mean that in the best possible way! Go check out some greatest hits, like her discussion of discussion of the 'realities' of virtual living, a heartfelt discussion of gaming addiction, and a fascinating audio diary celebrating BC's launch day. There's plenty more 'casting goodness below, so make sure to read on.

    12.27.2007

WoW Radio (home of our increasingly popular podcast) sends along a note that they've announced another round of WoW Idol, a contest to find the best WoW-related song their listeners can come up with. They're looking for both original work, and WoW parodies of popular songs, and the deadline is Friday the 18th of January. After that, the songs will be posted on their site (and played on air), and the finalists will be narrowed down to five winners, including three critics' choices, one popular choice, and a worst/most embarrassing winner. Sounds like a lot of fun (get it? "sounds"? ha!).And the prizes have notably improved from the last go-around-- you could win a signed poster, t-shirts, and everyone (including the worst winner) gets a BlizzCon beta key/murloc suit card. Hot! They're looking for songs 3-5 minutes long and related to World of Warcraft in some way-- send your submission to "wowidol AT wcradio dot com".Can't wait to hear the entries-- if any of them happen to be related to WoW Insider, we'll have to ask WoW Radio to let us play them on our podcast as well. If you plan to enter, good luck!

The holidays are pretty much in full effect (have you gotten one of those stupid carols stuck in your head yet?), but don't worry-- our podcast will still be live tomorrow to give you a WoW-related discussion break from those holiday blahs. Both I and Chris Jahosky will be on there, and that means we'll finally have to talk about Paladins, as Chris is more or less our Paladin rep here on the site. He's also working on that great graphic novel that we're posting, so we'll talk with him about that as well. And of course we'll also chat about all of WoW Insider's most popular posts of the last week. Join us tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm EST (and on IRC at irc.mmoirc.org) on WoW Radio for the latest episode of the WoW Insider Show.
