  • WoW Moviewatch: How to Win at Nostalgia

I have yet to see a machinima by Wowcrendor I didn't like. That said, How to Win at Nostalgia is pretty much a highlight reel of the best of Wowcrendor's videos all rolled up into one delightful package. While most of the material is re-used content, it's all the stuff I loved in one hysterical montage, and even included some things I'd forgotten about, like the heartwarming journey of Edward the Earth Root. It's four minutes of everything I love about Wowcrendor, which makes it feel a little like one of those best-of compilation album commercials, but it absolutely works here. I think the best part about the video isn't the material included -- which is stellar, mind you -- but the immediate realization that some of my personal favorites weren't included, which led to a prompt revisit to Wowcrendor's massive archive of machinima. Check out the video, and if you like what you've seen, it might be time to go-go-go back and take a look at Wowcrendor's entire scope of work to remind yourself how far he's come, and how funny he is. • WoW Moviewatch: Vanilla WoW in a Minute

Warlords of Draenor cometh, and it won't be long before we're all not-really-time-traveling into the past to either bring back heroes of legend or kill them. You know, whichever. The game mechanics are getting another overhaul, and the number of buttons are getting trimmed down. As I read over complaints and rose-colored glasses of how the original game was so much better, and so pure, I thought of this video by Wowcrendor. One of his earlier pieces, Vanilla WoW in a Minute is a good way to remember what the game used to really be like. It wasn't all traipsing through flowers with 40 of your best friends, and nobody needs to go back to that version of Alterac Valley. Interested in the wide world of machinima? What Are NPCs Thinking 5 is the latest installment in the secret thoughts of Azeroth's most overlooked characters. Once again narrated by the incredible Wowcrendor, this series just keeps getting better. With sly references to other games and plenty of jokes, this video also introduces the newest superhero to WoW: Totem-Arm! He's got an arm that's also a totem that's also his arm! I think fanfic is probably right around the corner. If you want a few minutes of giggles and good spirits, make sure you hit up What Are NPCs Thinking 5. Interested in the wide world of machinima? Did you somehow manage to miss an expire expansion? If so, don't worry about it. Wowcrendor will get you caught up to speed with Mists of Pandaria in a Minute. It's a little like vicious satire of the game or a vicious satire of the players or maybe just a hilarious look at the last year of WoW. Frankly, you need to watch this video just for the sake of the Blingtron Rap. That's the moment we've all been waiting for. Interested in the wide world of machinima? The master of comedic commentary is back with What Are NPCs Thinking 4. It's a few minutes of hilarious interpretation of some of WoW's most iconic characters. Not the big ones like kings and war chiefs. No, this is that smug, self-satisfied snake statue or that clever auction goblin. This is probably my favorite Wowcrendor series; I don't think they get old. I've always wondered what those ogres had in mind with their peculiar standing places. That's just not safe behavior. Ogres aren't the smarter critters in Azeroth, but you would think some basic self-preservation instinct might take over. Interested in the wide world of machinima? A few subtle signs can warn you in plenty of time if your Alterac Valley is going to be a painful failure. Subtle things like an extended Belinda stay, too many people socializing with kobolds, and bottlenecks at graveyards. Wowcrendor put together this handy video, How to Tell if Your Alterac Valley Will Fail, to help you identify some early warning signs. Learn from this man's mistakes and save yourself some pain and angst. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! With the thundering news from BlizzCon that Warlords of Draenor would include garrisons (a sort of player-housing light, most reminiscent of some farms that we love so much), the huddled masses of eager WoW players are desperate for a first look at the new gameplay. Trust that inimitable Wowcrendor to tackle such an anticipated subject by providing his own Sneak Peak at Garrison. It might not be the trailer we deserve, but it's the trailer we need right now. Not every crowdsourced idea is a good one, and Wowcrendor is here to show you why. If Fans Created the WoW Expansion highlights some of the more surreal notions our community occasionally comes up with, and probably why Blizzard doesn't always implement them. While not every notion is silly, we do like to get hung up on some particular details. I'm personally waiting for the expansion titled Hogger Kills Everyone. Wait, it's October already? How did that happen? Well, if we're busting out the Brewfest and the dirndl, then there's no better time to replay Wowcrendor's ale-soaked hit, How to win at Brewfest. Billy might not have been prepared for Brewfest, but I'm sure the rest of us are plenty eager for it. It's funny how well Crendor's explanation of Brewfest still applies today. Oh, Billy. We miss you. Come back to us, Billy! Make sure you watch all the way through the video. The "No Guy" makes a brief appearance. We miss him, too. Interested in the wide world of machinima? There's been plenty of speculation about the new expansion this week. Wowcrendor decided to step up to the plate and reveal details about the mysterious name. The Dark Below Revealed takes you under the shiny surface of WoW and into the dark recesesses of the underneath. It's a short video but worth a couple chuckles. Back in My Day, we used to wear rose-colored glasses and talk condescendingly about newbs. Or, as Wowcrendor deftly points out with his characteristic flair, maybe we still do that today. There's something about telling tales of WoW gone by that leads us old folks to talk about vanilla WoW as if it were inutterably superior. All that being said, I really loved this video. Wowcrendor's really expanded his voice repertoire with this new character. I don't know if he practiced it or if the new voice just came to it, but I'm already eager to see him go up against No-no-no guy. Interested in the wide world of machinima? This expansion has been a mixed bag for me. While I love the visualizations and the graphics and the stories, the pain of daily quests is going to linger with me forever. The other thing that will stay with me forever is The Luckydo Rap by Wowcrendor. This mischevious master of machinima rarely delves into the realm of music, which I think might be a shame given the wild success he enjoyed with The Luckydo Rap. While this is admittedly a rerun, who couldn't use a little more luckydo in their day? Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! The sultan of sarcasm returns with a loving video about the Blizzard Store Grand Opening. While it's easy to think that Wowcrendor is just complaining about the Blizzard Store, I actually think his video highlights a common problem with the uproar. How likely do you think it is that Blizzard will do any of these things? So while he's certainly putting a critical eye on the store, he's equally lampooning some fo the over-the-top reactions. Like many of Wowcrendor's parodies, I wasn't really aware of the inspiration for Ghost Quests until I saw the machinima first. I'm not sure I'm going to go watch the original Ghost Adventures after seeing Wowcrendor's version. I'm pretty sure I know everything about it I need to know. This video was pretty funny. I hadn't realized how much I missed this format out of Wowcrendor until now. It's an excellent way to show off Wowcrendor's vocal skills and his acting range. While it's not like I sit here going, "Oh my gosh, who is that voice actor?" But he does an astoundingly good job of portraying separate characters. Bonus: Obligatory version of Cranius's Darrowshire. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Just in time for the weekend, the master of comedy known as Wowcrendor has released a new video. In What Are NPCs Thinking 3, Wowcrendor tackles some of the more absurd, enigmatic NPCs of Azeroth. These characters provide the game a sense of vibrancy and population, but it can be hard to figure out what's supposed to be going on in their heads. Wowcrendor makes it so you don't have to wonder. This series is probably my favorite Wowcrendor series in a while. The orcs fighting over a patch of grass is the best one. A patch of grass is a valuable thing, I guess. • Wowcrendor: The nice guy behind the biting machinima

    by
    Lisa Poisso
    Lisa Poisso
    05.16.2013

One might expect a machinimist to be come at you with a rather snarky, biting personality, especially a creator who's known for poking fun at WoW player stereotypes. Not so Wowcrendor. Wowcrednor's a nice guy in the true sense of the word. He also happens to be funny -- funny enough, in fact, that the list of posts of his WoW machinima here at WoW Insider goes on for pages and pages. So how does a nice guy who has fun making video game machinima end up making a living at it? We wondered, too, so we asked -– and nice guy that he is, Wowcrendor spilled all the beans. WoW Insider: So you're living the dream, making a living making WoW videos. Congrats! How has that changed the way you play the game? Things must be quite different now. Wowcrendor: It is really a dream come true. One day you're sitting in a college math class writing scripts about Mankrik's wife, and the next you're making a living off it. I don't think I ever saw it growing to the point it's grown to, but I'm thankful for it nonetheless. As for how it's changed the way I play the game, I think it's actually impacted me negatively, as odd as that sounds. Before I made videos about the game, my sole focus was just having fun or getting involved in the virtual world of Azeroth. Now that I do this as a living, it really shifts your mindset. If I'm playing the game, I'm constantly thinking if something could be made into a video instead of actually focusing on enjoying the game. For example, before I started making videos, I raided in every expansion. I enjoyed raiding and even got to raid with the guy who inspired me to start making WoW videos, a surreal experience at the time.

  • WoW Moviewatch: If WoW Was Easy... er

    by

    05.08.2013

Today on WoW Moviewatch, Wowcrendor presents us with a simple question: how easy do you think World of Warcraft could become? The context for this question obviously being that players are constantly complaining how easy the game has become over the years. Thoughts, anyone? Rants? Well-argued essays? Anyway, to answer the question, Wowcrendor employs his usual style wherein which Billy presents the question and Crendor responds with several, increasingly absurd answers. I won't spoil any of the jokes (though I really want that robot) so just give it a watch. I have to admit, it really is astonishing that Billy has retained his innocence and naivety over the years. You'd think after being slapped around by the harshness of reality so many times he'd have become jaded by now. But I guess he really is resilient ... Or maybe just extremely oblivious. Either way, props to you Billy. I wish I had your tenacity. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! It's been a while since we've heard from Boar Thrills. Just in time for the Mt. Everest of WoW, Wowcrendor aims his careful camera firmly at wild yetis and freezing snow in Orc vs Wild: Kun-Lai Summit. While I know it's intended to parody, Orc vs Wild is always a fun view of the game. It's an interesting, microscopic view of Azeroth's climates and its inhabitants, with just enough humor to keep the whole thing amusing. Grammar has been a plague to gamers for a long time. In the heat of battle, dodging fierce attacks and casting magical spells, you rarely have time to type at length. And even if you do manage to smash a few words out between attacks, you even less commonly have the time to check your grammar. But there are limits to the largesse we grant one another about grammar. Which makes it a perfect time for Wowcrendor to educate us all on How to Win at Grammar. Let's say you have some apples. And you want to give them to a friend. What's the thought that matters? That you tried to give some apples to your friend, or that you were just trying to get rid of them? Should you boost your generous reputation for giving away apples to every person you see? Is the existence of the apples that matters, or that you were giving them away? I'm not sure Wowcrendor was looking to delve into that level of philosophy, but he picked the discussion in Tillers are Greedy. And let's be honest: they are. Just a little.
