Another year has come and gone bringing with it a pile of quality titles. Instead of throwing the three staffers here at X3F into a room without food or water until we agreed on one absolute game of the year winner, we've opted to pick our own individual favorites. What stood out to the staff of X3F? Here are our picks for best (and even some of the worst) of 2008. Jump to X3F AWARDS 2008: XAV'S PICKS [Image: Richard Elliot]

  • It's the big brown Domo themed Xbox 360

Looky! It's the ever popular Japanese Domo Kun making an appearance on an Xbox 360 Arcade console. It's so brown, so angry, and ... well, so Domo! Sadly, this 360 isn't available for purchase at retail (though, Target stores might be interested), because it's a custom creation that was painted as a gift. That said, maybe Microsoft should borrow this Domo 360 branding idea. It'd probably help their Japanese console sales.[Thanks, Ricepuppet]

Hey X3F Nation, we here at Xbox 360 Fanboy would like to wish you and yours a happy and safe holiday season. Take a load off, kick back and game on. We hope all your holiday wishes come true and are already thinking about a good New Year's resolution. Our suggestion is to dial down all the hate toward your non-Xbox console owning bretheren. We only suggest this because, according to a stat we made up for the sake of this joke, 88% of all resolutions die out within the first two weeks of the new year. Peace out, kids!

Today, Spark Unlimited figured they'd gift us with a surprising, out of nowhere gift that has left us in the awkward position of not having anything to give back. The gift, a 748MB Legendary demo that can be downloaded via the Xbox Live Marketplace. And seeing that this demo was sprung on us so suddenly, the only holiday gift we can give in return would be our actual downloading of the demo. So, that'll have to do. You've been gifted a Legendary demo, now gift back by actually playing it. It's only right.[Via Major Nelson]

Update: The Castle Crashers patch has now been released. Original post below. It's so very true! The long awaited, long demanded and long delayed online co-op fixing Castle Crashers patch is but a few hours away from being released. Developer The Behemoth just informed the masses via their official forums that the Castle Crashers patch has passed Microsoft certification and will release as a title update later this morning at 5:00AM eastern (2:00AM pacific). We're speechless! After chatting with The Behemoth a few weeks back, we were told that the patch was still being worked on and not through Microsoft cert. So, their recent announcement about its release has sort of caught us by surprise. No matter, Castle Crashers patch countdown is GO! Pinch us, we must be dreaming.[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

Replay Studios' Velvet Assassin will be making its way to retail sometime in 2009 and to tide us over the holidays, were were just sent a rather revealing set of pictures. Umm, very revealing. Viewable in the gallery below are pictures and descriptions of four different outfits Violet will strategically wear during her Nazi busting adventures in Velvet Assassin. And before you question the need for having four different outfits, ask yourself a few simple questions: When isn't leather a good thing? How much do you enjoy night dresses?%Gallery-40002%

What are the holidays without some bloody chainsaw Gears of War fun? Answer: nothing worth your time. So, we bring you XYBA Podcast's short and bloody good Gears of War X-mas video that comes complete with a creepy-innocent girl, some very delicious looking Gears of War cookies and a gift giving Santa pleading not to get ... well, chainsawed. The vid is probably NSFW, but is totally worth the click. Maybe Santa will think twice about eating the cookies.

Continuing the ho, ho holiday tradition of discounting a piece of Xbox Live Marketplace content every seven days, Major Nelson just informed us that Halo: Combat Evolved is this week's Holiday Deal of the Week! Starting tomorrow, the Halo: Combat Evolved Xbox Originals title will be 50% off and only cost you 600 Microsoft points. Usually we'd put up a fuss about Xbox Originals, their lack of achievements and overpriced nature, but 600 points for a gaming classic? We just don't have the heart to fuss about that. Enjoy teh dizcounted Haloz.

  • Twitter's fake Cliffy B gets shut down

    12.22.2008

If ever there was non-news, this is it but recent tips have forced our hand. Emails have flooded our inbox (and my Xbox Live messages) regarding comments made by Cliffy_B on Twitter. "After much testing, it looks like matchmaking is permanently broken ... There are new maps though, only 800 Microsoft Points!" read a recent update enraging gamers that the designer would mock issues plaguing the multiplayer of Gears of War 2. However, as most of the internet is aware, Cliffy_B on Twitter isn't the real Cliff Bleszinski and now the account has been suspended from activation. The trend of creating obvious fake Twitter accounts isn't a new phenomenon. Recently, a fake Kanye West account was shut down after comments were made about Stephen Colbert in his quest to top the iTunes sales charts, currently topped by the award-winning rapper. Shaquille O'Neal has also been in the middle of his own Twitter-versy (that's like if controversy made it with Twitter) which forced the champion NBA baller to create his own account in retaliation -- which by the way is fantastic reading material. So, it wasn't really Cliff and he wasn't really laughing about broken multiplayer and charging for maps. All cleared up, now? Great. Moving on...[Image]

Feeling a bit reflective, today Microsoft put out a press release with the sole reason of gloating about the success of the Xbox Live Arcade over the years and especially in 2008. Read over the bulleted list and try to guesstimate how many Microsoft points have been spent on XBLA titles over the years. 1.25 billion Gamerscore unlocked to date. 100 million achievements earned to date. 60+ XBLA titles score 75 or higher on metacritic. Braid is highest rated XBLA game of all time. 110 million trial XBLA games have been downloaded to date. The Summer of Arcade saw a 58% increase in unique members purchasing game titles. August broke revenue record by 67%.

Today, we have a proud moment to celebrate at X3F headquarters, because we're pleased to tell you that we came out victorious at competing in "guess which XBLA game will release prior to its official Microsoft announcement." This week, just as speculated, the Xbox Live Arcade receives Puzzle Arcade. On Wednesday, December 24th for 800 Microsoft points (ouch!), you'll be able to download Ctxm/Say Design's Puzzle Arcade. Complete with 35 jigsaw puzzles, a few different modes, and lots of promised DLC, Puzzle Arcade lets you enjoy the excitement that is putting together a jigsaw puzzle, but on your Xbox 360. 'Nuff said.

Racing onto the Xbox Live Marketplace this morning is a new 377MB MotoGP 08 demo. And we wish we could tell you some information about the demo or what's included prior to your download, but Capcom has only given us "Download this demo" descriptor text. No matter, we figure MotoGP fanboys will insta-download the demo and those who aren't interested will turn their nose up in demo disgust.
