  • XBLM discounts Red Dead DLC in ninth day of savings

    12.29.2011

With discounts being offered daily on Xbox Live across Microsoft's "12 Days of Deals" winter promotion, we've seen big price drops in everything from Fallout 3 and New Vegas to Halo: Reach. Today, Microsoft throws John Marston into the mix, offering price breaks on the entire Red Dead Redemption DLC catalog as well as the original game itself in downloadable form. While all the DLC is seeing prices cut in half, the game itself varies in price depending on where you buy it. Here in the US, it'll run you $29.99 (25 percent off). Of course, if you don't already own the game and you buy it plus all this DLC, you'll be spending $5 more than the cost of the "Game of the Year" edition, which includes all the DLC plus a "brand-new hardcore single-player mode." Weigh your options wisely, partners!

It's pretty unlikely at this point that you own an Xbox 360 without a copy of Halo: Reach in some form or another. But if for some crazy reason you just got an Xbox 360 and you're still missing out on Bungie's swan song to the Spartans, Microsoft's got a digital version of the game discounted alongside all of its DLC (well, most of it, anyway -- the Anniversary Map Pack is sadly absent). There's also a handful of Avatar clothing/items, as well as the always thrilling "Anchor 9 Premium Theme," you big collector, you. Head to Xbox.com's Halo: Reach section to see how today's discounts apply to your region. Should Halo not be your particular bag, a whole mess of other deals are being offering in the coming days and weeks, mostly of the Hasbro variety. Major Nelson has conveniently compiled them for you right here.

  • Xbox Live savings, day 7: Forza 4 content discounted

You've got yourself a brand new copy of Forza Motorsport 4 from Grandma, a full day off from work for holidays, and a general attitude of not accepting standard pricing, right? Perfect, because Microsoft is offering major discounts -- today only -- on Forza 4 content over Xbox Live, including that "Drifter Race Suit" your Avatar has been asking for. Okay, okay, the normally $30 "season pass" is also being discounted to $22.50, while last month's "November Speed Pack" is also lowered in price to 280 MS Points ($3.50) from 560. That Drift Racer suit is also half off but, you know, you probably don't need that. No matter what your Avatar tells you.

Major Nelson has dropped yet another Xbox Live knowledge bomb, this time revealing upcoming Xbox Live Arcade titles, the latest Deal of the Week promotion and more. In addition to Joe Danger and a heaping helping of DLC, Xbox Live Arcade will receive Sonic CD this week, with the Blue Blur clocking in at a mere five bucks. Also, in a surprising twist, Sonic CD will include both the Japanese and American soundtracks, meaning "Sonic Boom" will indeed be heard by a new generation. Meanwhile, Trine 2 will make its XBLA debut on December 21 for $15. Moving on to Deal of the Week, this week covers "Japan's Finest," offering Hard Corps: Uprising and Radiant Silvergun at $7.50 each, while Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury and Guwange can be had for $5 apiece. Next week's deal will see the Rock of Ages price chipped down to a very reasonable $5, providing an excellent method for settling any family arguments during Christmas dinner. Head over to Major Nelson for the full release schedule.

  • Xbox Live Black Friday goes all day, doesn't have stock limitations

    11.25.2011

We'll admit it -- the Xbox Live Black Friday deals aren't exactly as thrilling as the competition's are, but there are still some big savings to be had. Take, for instance, the massively discounted Marvel vs Capcom 2 for just 320 MS Points ($4!), or Fallout 3's Games on Demand release -- sans DLC -- at 25 percent off (pricing varies by region -- $22.49 in the US). Those are both pretty solid deals! Microsoft's Major Nelson also promises more deals this coming "Cyber" Monday, so if today's offers aren't as exciting as you'd hoped, there'll be even more in the coming days. Oh, and there's always the week-long XBL sale that Microsoft is running -- Super Meat Boy is still only $5 and still really great!

To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Xbox, Microsoft is giving away an "Xbox Anniversary Prop" for Avatar use. The box o' fun is a cube filled with confetti and fireworks. The prop will be available in all Xbox Live regions until Saturday, so go ahead and grab it. Major Nelson also posted an audio clip of the Original Xbox's dashboard transition sound. Internally, at Microsoft's Xbox division, this day is also celebrated as "Thank Gawd for the Halo Franchise Day."

You may not be able to buy copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 just yet (well, not all of you), but you can always get yourself queued up for battle with the game's Elite application, which is already available for download via Xbox Live Marketplace. Coming in at just under 100MB, it ... uh ... doesn't do very much until you have a copy of MW3 and some multiplayer under your belt, as we were met with a prompt on load asking us to do as much before jumping into Elite. The client has yet to arrive on the PlayStation 3's PSN, but we're betting it'll be available tomorrow at some point alongside the company's weekly content update. Unfortunately for PC users, Elite won't be available at launch tomorrow, but instead will arrive "when it's ready." And in case you haven't been paying attention, the game launches tomorrow on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

    09.27.2011

Microsoft is taking a set of sharp blades and ravenously cutting prices across the board on Xbox Live Marketplace content, starting right now. Already inexpensive (and wonderful) title Outland will cost you a cool 400 MS Points ($5), while deep multiplayer fare like Monday Night Combat and Section 8: Prejudice are going for 600 MS Points ($7.50) and 800 MS Points ($10), respectively. Also, hey, if you're not one of the over 2 million people who own and adore Trials HD, here's another chance to grab it on the cheap (600 MS Points/$7.50). It's unclear when the "Extreme Shopping" sale will end, so we've asked Microsoft for more info. For now, enjoy the sweet, sweet savings while you can. Update: This post originally had ilomilo listed as on sale for $5, which is false. Sorry about that! [Image credit: Ronald Wong]

Fashion-forward fighters, take note: Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition's Color Pack DLC has been removed from the Xbox Live Marketplace following a statement issued by Capcom, stating that the Color Pack contains "incorrect files," and that a Color Pack containing correct files is being constructed. If you purchased the DLC before it was removed from the Marketplace, tell Capcom about it here by clicking the "Ask a Question" button and selecting "General" or "Tech Support - General" from the category drop-downs. As soon as the updated DLC is back on Live, you'll receive an email containing a code to re-download your snazzy new digs. Just don't forget to delete your old new digs before downloading your new new digs.

  • First two Skyrim DLC packs heading to Xbox 360 first

    08.26.2011

When The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim arrives in stores this November (likely by way of carrier dragon), it'll assuredly feature many, many hours of content. Nevertheless, gamers will want more, and Bethesda has promised post-launch content to be of the "substantial" variety. The first two pieces of that content will arrive exclusively on Xbox Live Marketplace at least "30 days before it's available anywhere else." Bethesda revealed the news this morning via press release, which also indicated we'll see more than two "add-on content drops" for Skyrim after the game launches. Given the kind of expansions we've seen for the Fallout titles and Oblivion, we expect the folks at Bethesda have some serious plans in mind for DLC support.

  • ESPN 2.0 on Xbox Live features improved guide, stats feed and more

The ESPN application on Xbox Live offered some interesting functionality to sports fans, though perhaps not enough to make it a viable competitor for their standard cable fare. ESPN 2.0, a massive renovation of the platform scheduled to launch August 25 (just in time for college football), will be a much more worthy contender. Gizmodo recently previewed the updated software, revealing a number of its new, tantalizing features, such as the ability to watch two games on ESPN 3 at once, and a live score feed on the side of the UI. The highlight feature is the new Guide, a carousel of thumbnails showing currently streaming programs, each of which include stats, scores and information about each game. Check out a video demonstration of the software on Gizmodo, and join us in wishing for a future where every sport is simulcast conveniently on our gaming consoles. • XBLM deals: Mass Effect 2 and Microsoft Studios DLC, Gamertag change

    by

    07.26.2011

Major Nelson has posted the Xbox Live Marketplace schedule for the next few weeks, including some good deals and one strange one. This week's Deal of the Week is for Mass Effect 2 DLC. Gold members can snag "Lair of the Shadow Broker" and "Kasumi -- Stolen Memory" for $3.50 each, half the usual price. "Arrival" is also half-price at $5. DLC for several Microsoft-published titles is also on sale, including content for Halo: Reach, Gears of War 2, Forza 3, Fable 3 and Alan Wake. This sale is not part of the Deal of the Week promotion, and appears to be open to both Gold and Silver members of Xbox Live. As for next week's deal, well, it's a bit strange. Microsoft is offering the ability to change your Gamertag at a discount. It normally costs $10 to change an Xbox Live moniker, but next week's "deal" drops the price to just $7. So, if you hate your Gamertag but not quite enough to justify ten bucks, next week's deal is for you.

    07.21.2011

Twisted Pixel has announced that the first Title Managed Storage (TMS) challenge has been launched for Ms. 'Splosion Man. The challenge, which features Mr. Destructoid as an in-game character, requires no extra download and should be accessible from the main menu of the game. It will be open until July 31. Those who managed to grab 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in the leaderboard by the end of the challenge will win a prize pack including a Ms. 'Splosion Man statue, Destructoid bobble head and T-shirts and posters. One random contestant will also receive a Twisted Pixel prize pack, so even those without the best 'sploding skills have a shot at winning something. In addition to the TMS challenge, Twisted Pixel has also released a new level for the original 'Splosion Man. The level serves as a quick prologue to Ms. 'Splosion Man, and details just how the team at Big Science lured him into a trap. The DLC is free and available now on Xbox Live Marketplace. %Gallery-128891%

  • Rumor: Zune Marketplace revamped on Xbox 360 as streaming video service

    by

    07.08.2011

Microsoft's Zune Marketplace may be getting a new business directive in the coming months, as a report this morning suggests that the current service on Xbox 360 will soon offer a streaming subscription option. Anonymous sources in Microsoft's Redmond, Washington homebase tell The Daily that the Zune-branded service will become an additional source of streaming content alongside the Xbox 360's current Netflix and Hulu Plus options. Could this be the service Microsoft announced during its E3 2011 press conference, and has yet to speak about with any specificity? Or is it some derivation of the rumored Xbox Live Diamond project? That remains unclear, but with the company's plans to launch some form of streaming television on Xbox 360 this fall, it stands to reason we'll hear more about what's actually going on in the not-so-distant future. Update: Microsoft tells us it "doesn't comment on rumors or speculations," as expected. We'd also like to point out that while Microsoft's Zune Marketplace has had the ability to stream content for some time, today's rumor specifically pertains to a subscription for the Marketplace content to be streamed.

Codemasters probably had no idea the accidental synergy it was creating, dropping the Monte Carlo DLC for Dirt 3 the same week that the soon-to-be hit romantic comedy of the same name was arriving in theaters, but here we are. Unfortunately, Selena Gomez isn't a new rallycross driver in the upcoming pack, and as far as we know, there isn't any rallycross in the film. What a waste! Regardless, the $10 pack is now available on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 via their respective digital storefronts, and on PC via the Games for Windows Marketplace. It comprises eight new tracks set in the miniscule Mediterranean monarchy of Monaco (specifically Monte Carlo, of course). If, like us, you don't have a summer villa in the DLC's lavish setting, you may want to take a peek at the maps in action before purchasing the pack -- for that, we suggest heading into our gallery below.%Gallery-127363%
