Seems that talking up about the PlayStation 3's development process is in style -- first IO Interactive said how fun it was, now Ubisoft's own Yves Guillemot is claiming that it's no harder than programming a 360 title. Perhaps that's stretching it a little. Ubisoft is saying that, from a development standpoint, the two consoles can yield them equal results, working on the respective strengths of each console. In addition, he feels the rest of the year will be excellent for the PS3, with the price cut and lineup of good games. As for the rumor that it costs a lot more to work on the PS3, well, it's still true, but not a major hike in price due to Ubisoft's complete cross-platform engine thingy. "What we do now is create for the PS3 and 360 at the same time, and it doesn't cost more than 10 per cent extra to develop for the other machine ... Before it was costing us more, about 20 per cent, just because it was difficult to learn the PS3 hardware, but now our engines are done and we can easily develop for both machines." Good stuff, we guess. Hopefully this means less delays for PS3 versions of games as well as equivalent gaming experiences.

CEO's can sometimes say the darndest things. The always outspoken CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, spoke with Gamesindustry.biz about the cost of the PS3, which clearly differed from his earlier views. Speaking about Sony directly, he says, " [they] sold a machine that is actually expensive to build at the right price for consumers. It's just that if we want more consumers, we'll have to have a price that will make more people come in." Well Sony has at least one CEO in their corner in mild agreement about the launch price of the PS3, except it just further exemplifies a growing demand for a price cut now. The interviewer inquired about the possibility of a price cut before the all-important holiday season, to which Guillemot of course, agreed would be nice. "For publishers, we want as many machines sold as possible, so for us the lower the price the better," he says. Previously, analysts have estimated a PS3 price cut could already be on the way. Time will tell.[Via Joystiq]

It's a good thing that Sony's Ken Kutaragi reportedly doesn't care about the competition, because if he did he might be worried about the strong words of support for Microsoft's Xbox 360 coming from Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot during an interview with GameIndustry.biz.Guillemot said that Ubisoft granted an exclusive Splinter Cell title for Xbox 360 because, "Splinter Cell was created on the first Xbox, so we thought it was important to come back for one volume with Microsoft to create a very good quality title focused on using the full power of the system." He added later, "We love Xbox 360 because it's easy to develop on and that's why we want to put great quality products on it."Ubisoft is clearly hedging its bets in the next-generation console race by offering plenty of launch support for the Wii and brining major games like Assassin's Creed to the PS3 as well as to the 360. Still, this laudatory interview from the company's president is sure to brighten the mood of any ardent 360 supporter.
