Zane Lowe's new Beats 1 show is all about new music
This summer, Apple created New Music Daily, a curated playlist with the latest and most popular tracks from around the world. Today, it's launching a companion radio broadcast on Beats 1. The weekly show, "New Music Daily with Zane Lowe," will feature interviews with artists, commentary and songs from the playlist. The first episode premieres today at 12PM ET (9AM PT) with guests Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Coldplay's Chris Martin.
Zane Lowe traded Radio 1 for Apple's Beats 1
When Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe announced he was leaving the BBC to join Apple, it was clear that he'd been lured away from the bright lights of London to help launch a new music platform. The logical assumption was that he'd help create curated playlists for a service formed from the acquisition of Beats Music, but as it turns out, he's sticking with what he knows: radio. At its annual developer conference, Apple unveiled a new service called Beats 1, its first ever-live radio station. It'll broadcast music 24/7 to over 100 countries from June 30th, with Zane Lowe fronting the show in Los Angeles, Ebro Darden in New York and Julie Adenuga in London. All for free.
Apple hires the UK's biggest radio DJ to help boost its music service
While Apple reportedly has "hundreds" of employees working to build the fabled "Apple Car," the company is also busy integrating its Beats acquisition into iTunes. We may not have to wait too long to see fruits of that union, but before we do, Apple is acquiring talent to ensure the launch gets off to a good start. The UK's biggest radio DJ, Zane Lowe, today confirmed that after 12 years at the BBC's Radio 1 station, he's abandoning Britain for the sunnier skies of Los Angeles.
