Oneechanbara X, the game whose heroine is a katana wielding girl wearing a thong, straw hat, feather boa, and not much else, is odd to say the least. Add to that list one more thing, she's a zombie slayer. That's right, Xboxygen has posted several shots of our hero slicing up legions of the undead. Still no word on whether or not the game also contains ninjas, Nazis, or pirates -- or if the game will see release outside of Japan at all. Here's hoping. You can check out the official website (in Japanese, natch) here -- age verification required, can't imagine why.

Major Nelson informs the internets that there are now two Dead Rising Webisodes available on Marketplace -- US and Canada only, unfortunately. "What's a Webisode?" you ask. X360F has no idea and is unable to download it right now. So, your mission: download these Webisode thingies and inform the masses of their content. ...Don't just sit there, get to it!

  • Third Resident Evil film to be buried in desert

And in our wildest dreams, it would be right next to those E.T. The Extra Terrestrial cartridges. Too bad you can't win them all. Or even one, in the case of non-sir Paul W. Anderson. He's the man writing the script (if that's what we call randomly flinging words at a blank page) for Resident Evil Colon Extinction, the third film adaptation of Capcom's survival horror series. Previously, he directed the first Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat (hey, that wasn't so bad!) and Predator castration epic, Alien vs. Predator. Speaking at a recent Hollywood and Video Games summit, in Beverly Hills Mr. Anderson outlined his original vision for the shambling corpse of a trilogy. The first film would act as a prequel to the game, the second as an intersecting companion and third as a post script.Interestingly enough, the third film just happens to be set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, which is either a tired narrative device or some sort of meta-commentary on the series itself. The world's been overrun with undead fellows and the only survivors, which include Milla Jovovich's Alice, Jill Valentine and Code Veronica escapee Claire Redfield, must make a run for it in armored convoys. "So that's where the movie takes place, primarily in the deserts of Nevada and around Las Vegas. But of course, it's a Las Vegas that has kind of fallen now, because what's happened is, with no one to take care of it, the desert has come back in and half-buried Vegas. So... we built all these casinos which are sort of buried in the sand." We'll take a gamble and hold out some vague hope that this will pull a Resident Evil 4 and make the series sparkle.Or not. This Hollywood machine is rigged.[Thanks Killer_Twinkie!]

I'll be honest and say that I am an enormous fan of zombie movies and games. George Romero's films, excluding his latest, are some of my favorite movies to this day and the Resident Evil titles have always held a warm place in my heart. Ross Miller over at Joystiq posts about Capcom, in collaboration with Starcom, and their employment of undead appendages to advertise the release of Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. This campaign, which uses zombie hands bearing the phrase "questa mano é un biglietto da visita. Il resto del corpo ti sta cercando." That translates into the English phrase, "This hand is a business card. The rest of the body is trying to find you." The grave plots boldly display a sign, which reads "gli zombie sono in citta!" This translates into "the zombies are in the city!"[Via Joystiq]

  • Design challenge: weekly game idea

Patrick Curry, lead designer of hidden-gem Stubbs the Zombie, has challenged himself to produce one new game idea per week, every week this year. His first two game ideas included Toothache, a Nintendo DS dentist simulator, and It's all Business, a text-based, multiplayer, cell phone title. This week's title is the most elaborate. Mountain Bike Mike is an "extreme-sport racing adventure game." Curry details the control scheme, calling it his inspiration for the idea: "I love control schemes that evoke the real-life activity, and I think you could do some cool stuff with mountain-bike controls. The first part of the idea is that you control your steering separately from your body weight, as controlling your weight on a bicycle is important, but especially important when you’re barreling down a mountain. The second part of the idea is that you control your front-brake independently from your rear-brake. While this might sound cumbersome, anyone who’s ever flipped a bike will tell you that there’s an important distinction here."I know of a guy who might not only need a lesson in mountain bike controls but is also in a position to green light Curry's idea. Any interest in making a next-gen extreme mountain biking title J?[Via Raph's Website]
