The latest trailer for Wii U horror ZombiU sees a survivor desperately try to escape from Buckingham Palace. Not because the Queen's about to behead him (wrong Liz) but because, well, zombies. As you can see above, our hero uses the GamePad to negotiate a very untidy looking version of the royal residence. He also smashes the heads in of a (zombie) member of the Queen's Guard and a (zombie) armored policeman. Then the Queen, assisted by James Bond, parachutes in to save the day.Alright, some of that may be the Olympics.

  • Guillemot: Ubisoft 'doesn't have a huge investment' in Wii U

At a recent investor call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that Ubisoft "doesn't have a huge investment" in the Wii U, the only next-gen console so far announced from any of the major competitors. Guillemot pointed out that most of the games Ubisoft is developing for the Wii U aren't new, but are ports of existing Xbox 360 or PS3 titles.Building Wii U ports cost Ubisoft just over $1.2 million, Guillemot said. Rayman Legends and ZombiU, Ubisoft's "original" Wii U titles, "are much smaller of cost" than developing major titles for the current generation."Because, as we've always said when there is such an innovation, the need is not to have big production value but to concentrate on the innovation," Guillemot said. "This is what we are trying on Rayman and ZombiU."Earlier today we mentioned Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot's thoughts on the current generation's lifespan, noting his opinion that a lack of new consoles stifles creativity. New consoles spur developers to create new IPs and "are important for the entire industry," Guillemot said.

The latest ZombiU footage is not only incredibly creepy, it also explains why you'll find ammunition and crossbows and stuff out in the streets of England. Being a zombie game, the footage (including a second clip after the break) is also really violent and gory. These clips make it abundantly clear – ZombiU is way better at setting an appropriately creepy atmosphere than you'd expect something called "ZombiU" to be. And a zombie in a big silly hat is still really scary.%Gallery-160357%

  • ZombiU is all about survival, but failure is pretty cool too

Ubisoft's ZombiU for Wii U combines common survival horror elements, like inventory management and limited ammunition, with FPS elements like shooting at things in first person. As a survivor in your standard issue zombie apocalypse, you must search and loot bodies to find necessary equipment, while taking out zombies with whatever weapons you have handy. Putting the backpack on the WiiPad forces you to be very alert about both screens, to work quickly, and to be nervous. The WiiPad acts as a scanner, allowing you to ping for items, which are then highlighted on the main screen. You can use it to hack keypad locks, typing numbers quickly and frantically so you can get back to shooting. It also acts as a sight or scope for weapons, allowing you to aim with the gyroscope and line up the shot on the screen. The coolest feature of ZombiU has absolutely nothing to do with the touchscreen. When you die (and you will, since one bite does the job) your character wakes up as a zombie, and you respawn into another randomly generated person in a nearby safehouse, with a quick caption popping up telling you that new person's name and age. My first character was male; after he died, I woke up as a 23-year-old blonde woman. Those zombies representing your shortcomings continue to stalk around the area you died, and you can find them and kill them, thus erasing the evidence of your inability to survive the zombie apocalypse and getting the items back that were left on the body. It's kind of like going back for your body in a roguelike game, except your body is also going after you. It's an interesting gimmick, and it's more interesting because it's a game design gimmick in a lineup rife with interface gimmicks. And the interface gimmicks are also neat! Now, about the name ... %Gallery-157199%

I stormed Nintendo's E3 booth yesterday to try some real Wii U games. Because simply seeing screens is no longer enough -- you have to see screens and the controller, with its screens -- I brought a camera crew with me.Join us for gameplay snippets of Nintendo Land's "Takamaru's Ninja Castle" and "Animal Crossing: Sweet Day" minigames, Ubisoft's survival-oriented ZombiU, and ... Just Dance 4, in which I am the victim of the "Puppet Master." This is pretty embarrassing.

Ubisoft unveiled a brand-new title during its E3 presentation today: ZombiU. It's actually the evolution of Killer Freaks From Outer Space, which we assume isn't a thing anymore. Outside of a brief CGI trailer, Ubisoft didn't have much more to reveal on this Wii U exclusive.Update: Ubisoft sent over a press release on ZombiU, describing it as a survival-horror first-person shooter. It's in development at Ubisoft Montpellier, the same studio responsible for From Dust, Beyond Good and Evil and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. ZombiU takes place in London during the year 2012 after a zombie outbreak as the last remnants of humanity fight to survive. ZombiU also features "a unique death mechanic that puts players in the body of a different survivor each time they die, allowing them to track and take down their old, infected characters, recover their equipment and see if they can stay alive just a little bit longer this time."
