We're seriously hoping that massive bulge on the lid isn't going to remain (for long), but we're just happy enough that someone -- namely
Asus -- is prepping to launch a
SideShow laptop. Granted, it'll be first thing next year alongside the Vista release at CES (i.e. when we were all expecting SideShow laptops to be revealed) but still. Expect
PortalPlayer and other hardware "gadget" (widget, damn it!) businesses to
hop on the gravy train all the way to
auxiliary display-town.
Wow that looks realy weird on the lid.
being a pc and not a mac user, i never really gave much thought to how my laptop looks. i am pretty convinced most people dont really care either. i think this is a step in the right direction though it never hurts to implement it in a more aesthetic way.
Interesting the amount of MS badging on the case...
I have to say, that looks ugly. Why do they have Microsoft twice? (Probably a third time when the software is loaded.) If this is what Microsoft think people want, good luck to them :-)
I don't get it. What does this bulge do? Play MP3s?
Par- That bulge tells you it's happy to see you.
Yes... This is an anatomically correct "Laptop"
I would never buy it with the microsoft logo on it twice like that. ewwwww
I was wondering if maybe the microsoft icon is on there twice because the display/control is removeable -that way you still have a logo on the base. The design (with relief cuts and rounded edges around the unit) really gives me the impression that it can be removed...
Yeah it looked removable to me too.
Maybe they got pissed at Apple having their logo on laptops and this whole sideshow thing is so every laptop has to have Microsoft on it!
last i checked, all laptops that come with windows installed on them have the windows logo on them, and then under that there is text that says "microsoft(r)". So they do have their logo on laptops already ;).
I bet it is removable and will be the next Zune!
I really like the idea, not too fond of the color though. Can't wait for Vista!
What's wrong with a simple cable?
Ok, so this is nothing new. I can't go into very specific details, but if you google Intel Florence you will see why I say it's nothing new. (yes there was a color prototype)
MS steals, they don't inovate, everytime a company such as Intel shows MS some tech, MS rips it off attempting to say they thought of it first. My co-workers and I laughed at MS's attempt "AuxDisplay"
I thought for sure these types of laptops would never see the light of day, there isn't a huge demand for them.
Lenovo released a version in china, it was to never be sold here due to the lack of interest.
And just for the record, the Intel Florence models were just as thin as a Aluminum PowerBook (at the time) with a slight bump on the lid.
The Intel designs sure look great. Did they approach any manufacturers about those designs?
why isn't that a detatchable zune..?
Hmm, I'm in the market for a laptop and this is very sweet idea in my mind. I've heard 'bout this before and never thought it would ever go into production. Might as well kill two birds with one stone.

Hey, it's what I would want. I'm proud to use Microsoft products, cuz they're so good.
