Every NES game ever on eBay
This isn't the first bulk sale of hundreds of retro games on eBay, and it certainly won't be the last, but that doesn't mean we're not impressed by the completeness of this particular collection. Currently the bidding is at an impressive $5,200 with just over 6 days to go, which isn't surprising considering what's included: 670 NES games, which the seller claims constitutes "every game ever made" for the Nintendo Entertainment System. If achieving your childhood dream of owning, we repeat, every NES game ever made, isn't enough for you, then you'll no doubt explode when you see that ROB the robot, a Power Glove, a multitude of other accessories, and that essential NES console are all part of the deal. When you wake up in a couple of hours -- after you finish reading this post you'll pass out due to an overwhelming wave of nostalgia, trust us -- you better cross your fingers and check this post's comment's section in the hope that someone has found a flaw in the deal, otherwise you'll be forever jealous of the winner.[Via Digg]

WOW, me want
Only problem I can find: He doesn't have "Mike Tyson's Punch-out", only the re-released "Punchout: featuring Mr. Dream"
Well... ive got all the NES roms ever created, and it cost me nothing.
Yup, there's a catch: you only get the empty boxes.
bleh,
I can just download all the roms.
Every LICENSED NES game.
IE: No Tengen Tetris.
Right on Moofree. The first thing I did was scan the image for those weird, black Atari/Tengen cartridges, of which the seller had none.
odd... i cant seem to find mario in all that madness
"odd... i cant seem to find mario in all that madness"
4) 2-in-1 Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt
7) 3-in-1 Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt / World Class Track Meet
181) Dr. Mario
366) Mario Bros. (The Original)
367) Mario is Missing
368) Mario's Time Machine
551) Super Mario Bros.
552) Super Mario Bros. 2
553) Super Mario Bros. 3
Oh Shit!
NINJA CRUSADERS! Haha, I remember playing that with my cousin for hours back in the day. Good times!
there were 722 games released for the nes. not that it really matters. 670 is still huge. there are games like Domino's Pizza's Yo Noid that just aren't worth having.
what's with these fools who go
'' I can download all that ''
Of course you can. you know that, I know that,
my 11years old nephew knows that.
It's the physical collection of original games
that matters.
Why don't you download your girlfriend too.
losers.
lol.
But yeah this collection is amazing.
@danny: Why don't you download your girlfriend too.
Actualy, i did that. and its working out quite nicely.
I can do whatever i want whenever i want without any form of bitching ;)
I still have ROB the Robot. :)
wow... i was completely kidding
GREAT JOB ON THE FIND! ;)
The catch is: you have to sell your soul.
"THEIR ALL HERE"
Should we trust someone who spells "they're" wrong?
If thats how you work in the world, your going to be very lonely're.
their is only used when referring to people. They're is short for they are and is being used correctly.
So... who's taking bets that this guy is going to walk away with (probably) more than 10 grand just for being a pack rat?
its not the same as having a real NES there, but it definatly is a whole load cheaper
Who wants to take a guess as to how many of those game packs actually have their battery backup still working? Playing Final Fantasy with no saving is going to be a very long experience.
Even "A Boy and his Blob" Alright! Give the blob the licorice flavored jellybean and he turns into a ladder woo-hoo!
mega man 3
startropics
little nemo the dream master
super mario bros 3
mario is missing!
moofree - if you'd look at his other list items for sale he does have Tengen Tetris for individual sale.
What I wanna know is, why would this person part with such a collection? Reggie if you're reading this, how about trading a Wii to this guy for all his Nintendo possesion?
Wow, I didn't even realize that some of my games are worth more then PS3 games. Bubble bobble 2 is going for $70 + shipping
Oh no you didn't. I can't believe a commenter brought up the "Yo Noid" game, haha. That Noid the wackest mascot in history.
He HAS the tengen tetris, look it up at his list items for sale. It's not part of the auction because its unlicensed.
engadget just made this guy a little richer.
5,000 bucks for 600 NES games? Sorry but that is TERRIBLY over priced. I guess people are paying a premium for getting them all in one go, or they think this is actually a good deal. Probably 40% of those games would sell for like 50 cents at a used game store since used NES games are insanely overstocked with no one wanting to buy them (that is if the game store hasnt already thrown their inventory out since they were running out of storage room), another 40% would probably be around 2 bucks, then a few rare ones would be worth more than 20 bucks. Youre getting ripped off hard if you pay more than 2000 bucks for them.
Whoever wins that better be prepared to do a lot of blowing.
They may have to do a lot of blowing just to get the money.
Thank you Jonathan Keim for injecting a small amount of PS3 hateration into this discussion. May I remind you that it's also selling for more than any other game in print (including XBOX, GC, Wii, 360, etc)
Honestly, some people will take ANY chance to take a shot at their opponent system of choice... go blog something

Ok, sure, but then again anyone could say "Wow! My Bubble Bobble 2 game is selling for more than a 20 dollar gameboy game!" and no one would be even slightly impressed. It isn't a matter of fanboy-ism or hating the PS3, fact of the matter is that PS3 games are some of the highest priced games on the market, and so the fact that an NES game can beat out PS3 games is price is something to acknowledge. Looking at newegg prices, new PS3 games are roughly 60 bucks per, new Xbox 360 games are 55 bucks per, and new Wii games are roughly 47 bucks per. Therefor, without any biased opinion on what console could be better or worse, one can simply look at game prices and say "It is most significant if my NES game can sell for more than the console with the highest priced games, or in this case the PS3."
Nuff said. Get new batteries for your "Oh teh noes, fanboy" alarm plz.
You're right, the auction is only for unlicensed games. The article title claiming "Every NES game ever made" is inaccurate though, since the unlicensed games are clearly not included in this collection, regardless of the fact that you can buy them separately from him or from thousands of other people around the world.
hmm
what about caveman games, with cronk....??
670 is about 3/4ths of the domestic (US) NES library and even if he has a gold championship cart in the set its still overpriced by atleast 2 grand
i looked but i only saw a SINGLE gold cart. =( i feel bad for that collector. i have both gold zelda's and i love them.
"Eh" up there is right. Most used NES games are dirt cheap. It's $6400 now after shipping. I can think of many, many better things to do with that much money. And do you really want a complete set of games? While there were a lot of really great classics for the NES, there also are a lot of stinkers you'd never want to play.
If you don't want to play it on an emulator, you can always take the cheaper, still "real" option: Buy an NES for $20 and pick out the dozens of games you actually want to play for a few bucks each. Just as much fun for under $100.
This is no where close to "ALL" nes games ever made. Unlicensed ones alone - where are the Japanese games? Where are the Euro only games? Where are the 200 in 1 Dizzy games? Many carts actually had several versions made for various reasons. In total there are actually several thousand total NES roms and this does not even count the hundreds if not more homebrew games. This is a "fairly complete" listing of US based NES games in playable form. This is not "EVERY NES GAME EVER FRICKING MADE OMG LOOK!!!!11111 @@@@@@.
As one of the posters above me pointed out, these appear to be all LICENSED NES games. In various countries (like Australia) there were NES games released that weren't licensed by Nintendo. Still, we can't expect someone to collect all those too ... or CAN WE? :)
Many of the games are definately missing from his list. Donkey Kong 2 (One of the illest games ever) is missing from his list, although he does have Donkey Kong the original, and Donkey Kong 3.. hes missing 2.
There is none of the good street fighters in there so this is a flawed collection
I would not pay for an incomplete collection.
This is a waste and could be a trick.
Hey dumb dumb... "Street Fighter" is Super NES. It would seem you're a little incomplete :P
or don't download anything and hit up virtualnes.com
The reason it's selling for so much is because of the people out there who want stuff, and want it now. They don't want to go around searching 20+ stores for that last game they are missing, also they can't be bothered with going through the work of actually gathering it all. They see an Ebay auction for [every nes game etc] and they know that's what they want. They take a look, and end up deciding to give it a go, see if they can get it for a price they deem reasonable. Even though a lot of people are collectors few people are dedicated enough going around searching for them because even though they know a local game store could have a lot of them, they believe that the store can't have all of them. Gathering a collection is hard work, having that tossed in front of them is a dream come true.

Some Dust Covers:
Kyle....your logic is in error. Donkey Kong Jr IS donkey kong 2!
So therefore,,,,the collection is complete!
no dragonball series?
That's impressive!
Looks like the seller spent the last 6 months to collect all of them. Kudos to him!
Hmm...
Super Contra?
Mike Tyson's Punchout?
hey here's big news on the psp front... http://www.psp-hacks.com/2007/01/28/303-downgrader-released
the downgrader for every psp firmware has been released... big news... psp users can run homebrew now... please have it as an article
If you went to a used gamestore thats been around for 15 years or more, I bet they have every single one of these games. Infact, I bet this guy owns his own used game store which is how he was able to get such a collection.
Seriously, just go to a used game store thats been around since the NES era and Im sure they will have every NES game ever released in the USA. Offer them 1000 bucks for all of them and I bet they would take that deal in a heartbeat, you could probably get them down to 75 cents a game depending on their stock.
its not that easy. most rare games are very hard to find. I have been collecting on ebay for a while and its hard work and the postage can be high too!. I think $3000 is reasonabl for value but the effort to find them all in one place can be worth a bit too
there is punchout featuring Mr.Dream but not Mike Tyson's Punch Out. Those are 2 different games and Im pretty sure they are both liscenced.
671 games according to Nintendo's website. Here's a pdf supplied by Nintendo listing all the official releases: http://www.nintendo.com/doc/nes_games.pdf
The one game that may be escaping him is another version of the game Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. There were two totally different games based on the movie. One made in 1991 by Taito and one made in 1993 by Ubisoft.
Mike Tyson's Punch Out! is missing from the list....
Only Mr Dreams is there :D
let's see.... if nintendo made all these available on the Wii VC then i could buy all 670 @ $5 and have all these games in perfect condition for only $3350!
Where's Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!?? Who the f@ck is 'Mr. Dream'?
This collection is crazy. It would seemingly take forever to get through all those games. If you played a new one every day of the week, it would take you 22 months to get through them all. And truthfully, it would take longer than that because many of them you'd play for days at a time.
As I post this it's @ $12,300. That's $18 a game if you don't include the accessories and you don't add the shipping. THAT'S WAY TOO MUCH!
And with hardly any boxes? Give me a break. I think I'm going to do the same thing and make a few grand profit for my work, and I'll get most of the unlicensed games too. This is almost as bad as PS3 eBayers. No real fan would sell this, no matter what the cost.
Every single game huh, well I know one game that was produced but never made it to store shelves . It's called Pipe Dreams by Blizzard. Actually I have one of 6 copies ever made.
Hey guys, this is probably not the place to ask, but I will do so anyway. So, there was a game on the NES where you controlled a boat and had to collect mines and transport them to the other part of the level (which was quite small, dimensions wise). The missions grew harder and harder and at the end you you had to battle a final boss - a dragon that threw (breathed) fire balls upon the boat. Anyone remember this game?
yea the game was called "cobra triangle" and some of those levels were hard. I actually have that game.
"Mr.Gimmick" is not among them :( - the best NES game ever made
I hve at least 2 Games that aint on there, Proboprotectors and Kick Off
Yeah it's just retarded to get ~700 boxes of old sh|t; 700 NES games fit on a CD if I'm not mistaken. And the NES emulators are like freakin' 3 megs and such. So what's with this junk bidded at 5k?
collectors of 'junk' pay outrageous amounts of moola for things that most people wouldn't even hesitate to spit on.
Hey patrick, thank you very much for the help! I just found it and played a bit. Man, nothing brings back old memories as much as games :)
You all say "well I can download this" and "I can get ROM's for that" but Danny is right, have you every held an Atari 2600 that has a wood finish, and it made you feel good.
Didnt think so.
It must have taken years to rack down every single game in excellent condition. It will have taken atleast $1000 to build this collection, a healthy profit is well deserved considering all the man hours involed with searhing retro shops and looking at dusty shelves at importers. Never mind looking through the countless eBay scams and other internet shops to get the games in good-to-mint condition.
Presumably the seller has just upgraded to a SNES?
I can't believe nobody mentioned that this guy claims a perfect 100% positive feedback but has never sold anything!
And I can't believe you don't understand English. 100% positive feedback is exactly that. He has 100% positive feedback from people he has purchased from.
As I write this the price is currently US $12,500.00
Sorry, maybe I should express what I mean more clearly. The seller says, "I have 100% feedback so Bid with confidence"
Now, typically I would understand from that that this seller has an excellent sales record. That is to say, the seller's excellent track record with other sales should inspire me to believe that I will have no problems. I would, after all, be paying over $12,500 to someone who has never shipped a single item to anyone under this user ID.
While it's great that the seller in question has won many auctions and paid promptly over the last ~7 months, I would be hesitant to make such a large purchase from someone who has evidently never shipped a single item.
I'm also a little surprised to see how many of this seller's feedback took place so quickly. A quick check shows 130 positive feedbacks in 46 minutes, all from "discountgames." I realize that some people are very fast at the keyboard, but isn't that a whole lot of feedback in a very little amount of time?
I'm not saying this isn't legitimate, I'm just saying that a purchase of this magnitude is something I wouldn't be so sure about with this seller's record.
Also, I understand English just fine. I see how my previous comment wasn't quite up to par. I always learned to attack the idea, not the person behind it. So no low blows back.
-Justin
Justin I think the time on the feedback page is the time the feedback was left. Someone like lukiegames and discountgames will use one of the software auction managers available that auto submit the feedback. What I find strange is that he appears to have only just purchased some of the games.
$15,300, 82 bids and still over 5 days to bid...
Who has the $20k to waste and no life?
Perhaps the engadget staff is looking for something to do around the mansion...
At this point I think people are just bidding this thing up. No one will fork over the $15.5k + for these games. I would be amazed if he receives the money.
I *hate* this new trend of "I think this auction is stupid so I'm going to bid it up". That's called FRAUD. It's not fair to the seller or the legit buyers. STOP DOING IT.
I think you're all just jealous... This guy just PWNED all of you...hardcore...
Ppl in this comment thread have said "I can download all the roms for free" and other ppl said "exactly, it's easy to get roms, but ALL NES cartridges, that's a feat."
In a sense I agree, but then I got to thinking.. what a waste of time! How unimportant is your time and your life that you spend it trying to be "the guy who has every game for a 20 year old videogame system"?
It's almost sad, really. They should put a wager on how much that guy makes a year and where he works. If he'd rather spend his time doing that then say... go to college, I'd say he works at a gas station making $8 (but only cuz he's been there for 3 years).
Any other guesses?
Holy CRAP!!! The bidding is over $220,000 dollars right now, on Teusday January 30
$25,350!!! :-O
It seems the guy is deleting some bids, or some are joke bidders, like what happened with the Colbert portrait. I saw it yesterday morning at $31,000, and now it's at $20,200.
Yeah if you check the bid history he has deleted many bids and listed the reasons for his decision.
The auction is no longer listed.
