Is this the first quad-core laptop?

We've heard talk of a quad-core laptop processor from Intel, but Techware Labs has now published what it claims to be "spy pictures" of an actual laptop with some quad-core craziness inside, and it's got some supposed specs to go along with 'em. Apparently, in addition to the toasty new CPU, the laptop boasts dual NVIDIA 8800 graphics cards, a 17-inch display, and two 160GB hard drives, with Intel's 975 chipset underpinning it all. Unfortunately, the less-than-satisfactory pics above seem to be the only evidence of such a beast, so you'll have to take this with the usual grain of salt until some further proof (like third-degree burns) turns up.

Someone here said its not a laptop anymore. It is a laptop infact is a better laptop and infact its SFF-desktop killer. Think about average UPS at home it gives 30min of juice, enough to prperly close all ur apps and close pc. No even if these notebooks give 30min of time they are welcomed. Because SFF dont have LCD, Mouse, KeyBoard, Many Ports and above all Battery and in Apple's case u have to turn SFF PC on just to eject the CD. These notebooks will be SFF killer.

Yes must not only have 17"+ screen but they should have True-Desktop-Keyboard, i repeat, not equal in number of keys but equal inlayout aswell. Though somenotebokos give num-pad seperate but still nav-keys and 9-keys above it are blended with the num-pad, its pad, there keyboards should be ditto same 3-region layout. yes that keaboard will require 18" to 20" and the 19" screen is diagonally 19", notebook maker just has to shrink the keyboard wisely, not change the layout.

Here this opens door a new buisness. some keyboard makers shuold introduce True-Keyboard for notebook so even if a notebook doesnt provide desired layout one could just buy compatible True-Keyboard for his noteboko and replace it.

I have been waiting on AMD for this since November-2006 but no. My praysers are now listened as i feared for this year end.

Since AMD has developed flavour to eat bread crums from flour. They have just gone low

first by FANTASISING that Intel Quasi-Quad approach rather True-Quad is bad. And it (AMD) will be saving humanity like Apple, by pulling out B-Pod (Barcelona) out jeans pocket near Dec-2007.

Then by never pushing AM2 platform on Notebook, says AMD: thats bad bad not angelic way... so we are still seing 2-years old crapy 4800-X2 or FX-60 Notebooks, if they were loosing against Core2Duo on Desktops they should have open front on Notebooks with 6000-X2 notebooks atleast promoting AM2 on notebooks.

Not listening to there favourite patetion style www.amd.com/duel. When i saw that flash video humiliating Intel i got a shiver why this cheap style if Apple would have been doing that no surprise, why AMD is doing this. AMD then cashed the fans then but now why didnt they listen to countless patetions from people and through many articles hiden in them in a wise manner by theinquirer.net all from Nov-2006 to now. Intel didnt uploaded any page for patetion to show up with X2-6000+

Someone should re engineer that www.amd.com/duel video and maje it like dell-cartoon-video so my beloved AMD could snapp out of this Apple-O'-phobia. AMD should better Launch Agena at worst by next month and rather going for S1 stunts for Turion they should atleast with same fervour, flock/pleague the enthusiast notebooks class.

975X chipset supports Crossfire only, it cannot run dual 8800s in SLI (and there's no point in having dual graphics cards in a laptop otherwise).

The Q6600 is a 95W part, three times as much power and heat as a Merom processor. It could probably be done, but calling the result a "laptop" would be a bit disingenuous.

This is impossible. Dual 8800? Those things are HUGE. My GTS is about half the size of my laptop. The C2Q would be hot as hell. All it is, is two c2d's slapped together on one IHS the c2d already has enough heat. This thing cannot be cooled.
With stock 8800 running in the 70s on a well cooled desktop it would in the high 90s on stock load. Running into 100s once OC'd. With the dual and the quad core everything would FRY before you can use anything. Besides what AC adapter can carry that much amps to all that. A good system needs high amps on the 12V rails. This is nearly impossible to have in a small AC adapter that doesn't cool.

Point is not happening.

P.S. The article you linked in the story about the other laptop with 8800 is incorrect and needs to be fixed.

Putting all this artillery in a laptop form factor leaves me scratching my head. Very impressive from a pure horsepower perspective - this thing could probably run ray traced Quake 3, but this "Laptop" probably has to be water -cooled and industrially powered to even run without catching on fire. IMO if Sony made a cell-processor and Nvidia powered laptop ala PS3, it would rival this setup AND facilitate some level of portability. Maybe only about 100 watts. This monstrosity? maybe 1-1.5kW.

Hmm.. Nope, it really does look real! Oh, if you think this is fake, then mabe you sould take a look at SLI 7950GTX laptops with Quad cores. Yes, we have been able to buy a quad core laptop for since quad core was released!

Seeing that it has 2 MXM slots, and 3 fans, it looks legit. But if it's anything like the Core 2 EXTREME SLI 7950GTX 17" laptops, then it's gunna run pretty hot, but not burning hot, oh, and the >1 hour battery life! Might as well buy a desktop! Unless your rich.
