Guitar Hero III wireless Les Paul spotted
Are you ready to rock? I can't hear you... are you ready to RAWK?!
If you answered yes to both the above questions, please check out the early sneak peak of the Guitar Hero III wireless Les Paul controller IGN's got. It's got an improved button layout, it's wireless, and just generally makes our crappy white X-Plorers look totally ancient and pathetic. Thanks a lot, guys.

Intriguing, useless, and a valuable waste of time; what more can one ask for?
Jeremy K. @ Jun 1st 2007 4:32PM
Learn to play a real guitar!
t-bone @ Jun 1st 2007 4:40PM
And while I'm at it, I'll learn to drive a racecar, learn to shoot various guns, and learn to fly spaceships. Where the hell am I going to get the money to do that?
McGinley @ Jun 1st 2007 6:19PM
I dont think learning to drive, shoot or fly is comparable to learning guitar.
How about instead of buying guitar hero 3,you could buy a beginners guitar for the same price.
Matt B @ Jun 1st 2007 4:52PM
I prefer the explorer to a LP. The LP has never had that rock look IMO.
Haanz @ Jun 1st 2007 4:57PM
The new one makes the old look super plasticy. I'm not sure if I'm going to shell out for another though.
They need a new default faceplate. The white on black looks empty and papery. Could you not have given us sunburst as default or something?
Andrei Vassiliev @ Jun 1st 2007 5:08PM
I figure they're leaving room for people to personalize it (stickers, decals etc.) hence the white. I'm sure many have done so already? Seems like a good decision.
Dave @ Jun 1st 2007 6:26PM
That's why they have vinyl...you can customize it. It's all about being creative man.
Haanz @ Jun 1st 2007 7:10PM
I dunno. Stickers pretty often look kinda tacky. I'd still rather a decent looking standard faceplate packaged with it than one I'll have to customise before it looks good.
And any other colour other than paper white would have sufficed, though I suppose there's only so much you can do with a solid sheet of colour.
FruityMonkey @ Aug 26th 2007 8:24PM
Well, in my experience with ones with stickers and ones that are bare, I'd have to go with bare. Unless you gloss over the stickers, they start to come off around the edges, especially if you have them anywhere near where your hand/arm rests near the bar. They irritate my wrist. Don't know if its that way for anybody else, but I'd love to see some interchangable grapic faceplates. Snap on would be my preference rather than stickers.

rafael @ Jun 1st 2007 5:23PM
why some people ( stupid people ) waste their time saying a bunch of crap ?
example: GO LEARN TO PLAY A REAL GUITAR. ( dude are you stupid or what ? use that brain to think, this is a game to people have fun, you probably never played to see HOW COOL and FUN is to play.. wha da fuck you mean go learn to play a real guitar.. shut up next time.. its 2 COMPLETELY different things, and for those who dont want to learn to play , this is the close they can get.. so go to hell.
rafael @ Jun 1st 2007 5:25PM
and for Ryhan , waste of time ? look to yourself on the mirror.. u waste your time posting about a game that is eveything that u said.. lol..
rafael @ Jun 1st 2007 5:26PM
i really liked the guitar , but i prefer the guitar hero 2 guitar for xbox 360.. but the wireless make this a must have for 360 owners... looks like they finally made better buttons..
Jesus @ Jun 1st 2007 5:26PM
"why some people ( stupid people ) waste their time saying a bunch of crap ?"
I'm wondering the same about you.
Nando @ Jun 1st 2007 5:27PM
HELL YEAH I'M READY TO RAWK!!!! :falls asleep:
Nando @ Jun 1st 2007 5:28PM
Just kidding, I'm hard as a rawk!!!
rafael @ Jun 1st 2007 5:31PM

J @ Jun 1st 2007 5:32PM
Is Guitar Hero 3 only going to be on PS3 and XB360? I sure hope not. I'm not impressed with either of them. I'll stick with my "old skool" PS2.
rafael @ Jun 1st 2007 5:33PM
no, for ps2 aswell...
Ray-- @ Jun 1st 2007 5:32PM
they need this game badly for the Wii.. and wireless guitar!
Matt @ Jun 1st 2007 5:38PM
It's supposed to be coming out for the Wii too.
I heard the new guitars were gonna have interchangeable faceplates, but that may have just been somebody's wish, I can't remember where I saw it.
StrangeBum @ Jun 1st 2007 5:43PM
I'm waiting for the Jimmy Page stylized double neck SG....woohoo..then I can RAWK like Zeppelin.
Funny how each guitar is styled after Gibson's though..wonder why they didn't go with the all too popular Fender Strat, which everyone and their grandmother has. I'm not complaining, because I love the Les Paul. Just make me curious.
Stefan @ Jun 1st 2007 5:49PM
lol u just told jesus to go fuck himself
MasterCKO @ Jun 1st 2007 7:53PM
oh, and you'll need to budget the thousands of practice hours it will take to get as good as you would need to be to play these songs well. Oh, and the lessons. And don't forget how much it will cost to get the really good guitars (because el cheapo sub-$100 guitar won't last very long, especially once you start to get good at playing).
I'm all for musical education and learning instruments and having fun doing so and all that (I played trombone for a number of years and have recently picked up the guitar) but seriously, GH is a GAME. Playing a GAME and learning an instrument are radically different activities with totally different goals.
No one is playing this game cuz they think it's gonna get them a record deal. They just want to have fun (without having to practice for yrs before they can get good enough to really do so).
The "learn the guitar" comments are really out of place. Just let it be.
rafael @ Jun 1st 2007 7:08PM
i think they should be smarter and start to sell different kinds of guitars... they would sell a lot..
this game sold how many copies ? 1 , 2 millions ? i bet at least 90% play with a guitar.
and they should start to sell more music on xbox live.. they would sell a lot if they sould big packs with 10 musics... but i think they prefer to make guitar hero 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 and make more money.
Revrant2394 @ Jun 1st 2007 8:53PM
Give me the swirl baby, so I can jam out some Crazy Train.
Aaron @ Jun 2nd 2007 12:25AM
because Freaking fender is trying to copyright the shape of their guitars.
jim @ Jun 2nd 2007 12:57AM
I've been playing guitar for at least 11 or 12 years, and I've performed countless times. The moment I played this game for the first time, it was incredibly fun. The "go learn to play real guitar" comments are absolutely ridiculous, because this game and real guitar are completely different things.
I like the Les Paul look, but it *does* look sorta plain in that picture.
Phi Nguyen @ Jun 2nd 2007 1:10AM
StrangeBurn,
All the Guitar Hero controllers are shaped like Gibsons b/c the Gibson Guitar Corporation is the sole guitar brand that allowed the developer of Guitar Hero, Harmonix, to use their trademark designs in their game (along with the Roland-Boss pedals, Orange Amps, etc. If you look at the guitar selection in GH, all of them are Gibsons or Kramers (which is owned by GGC).
Since the Guitar Hero franchise was bought by Activision, developer Neversoft was put in charge of GHIII and Harmonix was bought out by MTV. Now, Harmonix is developing a game for MTV called Rock Band to counter Guitar Hero, and the guitar controller will be shaped like, you guessed it, a Stratocaster. Also, most of the guitar selection of the guitars in the game will be Fender designs.
Sorry for the long post.
Phi Nguyen @ Jun 2nd 2007 1:15AM
Oops, what I meant to say was...
All the Guitar Hero controllers are shaped like Gibsons b/c the Gibson Guitar Corporation is the sole guitar organization that allowed the developer of Guitar Hero, Harmonix, to use their trademark designs in their game, just like DW Drums were the only drums featured in the game. Other music companies such as Roland-Boss with their pedals, Orange Amps, Mesa-Boogie amps, Krank Amps, and Line 6 also joined in on the fun. I don't know if these companies get licensing fees, but if they do, they must be making a killing off of the GH franchise.
Ben @ Jun 2nd 2007 1:27AM
I agree with Jim - I've been playing for over 40 years, and this is NOT the same as learning to play guitar. It is a game and has value on that basis. It won't teach you to play guitar, and in fact will send you the wrong way on a couple of things. On the other hand, the game provides a great, and relevant, exercise in timing that guitarists will find useful. For the price (which is FAR less than a starter guitar and lessons) it is a great bargain, a great game, and much more social than your first few months of picking out scales and modes and badly fingered chords. I highly recommend the game, and to anyone who says "learn the real thing", I say, by all means if you want to, but in NO way will that make you not want or enjoy the game. I enjoy the heck out of it and I've been playing rock, blues and metal lead guitar for decades. Hence the handle "fyngyrz", you see.
pyro @ Jun 2nd 2007 10:53AM
exactly. telling a guitar hero player to learn to play guitar is like telling a DDR player to learn to dance. They're only playing the game because of the game involved, not to pretend to play guitar/dance.
bill @ Jun 2nd 2007 3:10PM
A Les Paul with a whammy bar??? Sacrilegious!
Won't keep me from buying it, though.
Matt @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:12PM
They need to make a Blue Tooth guitar that will work with both the PS3 and Wii. Guess it can't with the 360 though, since it's different.

this is proof that the guitar will have removable face plates.
Dan CiTi @ Jun 3rd 2007 3:47AM
Fender Telecasters >or= Gibson Les Pauls > Fender Jazzmasters > Gibson SG(-Zs) > Fender Stratocasters
IMO.
zapot8 @ Jun 3rd 2007 6:01AM
Dude the xplorers are much cooler, i mean i respect the classics but i like the xplorer model better.
zapot8 @ Jun 3rd 2007 6:01AM
Does anyone else think that instead of just supplying one model they should produce a few so that we can pick between em?
w00fd06 @ Jun 3rd 2007 11:12AM
i'm a Dean ML guy, now if they were 2 make an ml, that wuld be t3h 1337357 thing evr.
Jesse @ Jun 3rd 2007 11:14AM
i found that my left wrist hurt after a long time on guitar hero 2. so hopefully these buttons are easier to get too. i like that it's costomizable also. the wireless is great for mad guitar tricks, even though if you actualy take the time to learn one, get some friends and go to the city. Any way, i think that this is a good but not very necesary addition to the guitar hero series.
GUITARHEROISTHESH*T @ Jun 5th 2007 12:14PM
ITS SO SWEET THAT ITS FINALLY COMING OUT ON THe Wii. I NEED TO GET IT!!!!!!!!!!
qrt @ Jun 13th 2007 7:32PM
Buckethead :DDDD
Ryan @ Jun 20th 2007 8:44PM
uh yeah but see, for all you who say go learn to play a real guitar, its just a lot easier to play guitar hero then to waste your time "trying" to learn how to play when you feel a lot more confident rockin out on guitar hero, (I a Wii fan though)
