Sony Ericsson's new MBW-150 Bluetooth watch rocks AVRCP
Bluetooth wristwatches are all the rage lately -- or at least Sony Ericsson hopes so, because it has a vested interest in most of them -- and just like we suspected, the JV has announced its latest model, the MBW-150, complete with AVRCP support for wireless control of your music phone. This followup to the MBW-100 comes in three styles (Classic, Music, and Executive, pictured left to right) that all perform the standard caller ID / SMS notification thing, while tossing in the highly-desirable ability to change tracks and adjust volume as well as view track info on the face. No pricing or release details were immediately released, so we'll keep ya updated.

So will these only work with Sony-Ericsson phones like the last one?
Why, oh WHY must they ALWAYS be ugly?!?!?!?
The classic and executive don't necessarily stand out from the crowd, but ugly? They look like every other fossil/kenneth cole/timex/citizen watch in the men's section.
Or do you want them to look like those sparkly floppy belt buckle like bracelets all of the rappers are wearing now?
I don't understand why the only make them for sony Erickson...It limits their market so much.
The reason is the phone manufacturers. Fossil has a deal to make these watches for Sony Ericsson, but they could make them for others if those others would give them the info they need to program the watches.
Great. Another device you hold in your hand that can wireless control the device you are holding in your other hand.
I'm old fashioned. I want a classic automatic watch, even Swatch makes them, like Rolex, Omega, Eco-Drive. I had a Timex Data Watch, so-so. It was programmed from your CRT flashing at it. No wires! Very much a niche product. They won't be on E-Bay worth with collector status.
Curious product. Not compelling. Maybe it will save Sony from its PS3 travails! Nah.
given that much of the features come from bluetooth profiles, i would say they should work fine with other phone brands to. at least they should be able to work as bluetooth remotes and vibrate on call or message, but i wonder about their ability to show call id or track id when paired with non-SE phones.
did anyone bother to watch the "time masters 3" backstage movie? all i can say is CORNY.
yeah they were AWFUL. the subtitles were incorrect, they were very badly written.
how embarrassing. i wonder if they'll sell any at all...
and did you see that strange accessory connected to the stereo? there's the watch, then there's the phone, then there's another knobbish/usb drivish looking thing that the stereo plugged into.
I'm waiting for the bluetooth ring that I can wear on my right hand. It will flash and vibrate to let me know the watch on my left arm is trying to tell me the phone in my pocket is ringing.
I'm a huge nerd, and I love watches...this should be my perfect storm. I ain't rockin those ugly things though.
My guess was in the music edition back stage video you see his cell phone, a SE walkman sitting next to a A2DP dongle that is connected to the stereo with a 3.5mm jack plug. He controlled the phone with the watch and caused the mp3 to play over the dongle.
Ironicly, he could have had the phone in his pocket, or in the car and achieved the same effect, not a bad idea actualy. Walk in the house, get the phone out, pair it to my stereo and enjoy the music. Not that I need a watch to do that.
Now, the big big question, did SE learn to think BIG and just use standard A2DP and ARCP profiles to control the phone, or are they using a serial profile for a round about way of controlling it.
How much for it?
