HTC's Advantage is getting a new badge -- X7510 -- and a long overdue upgrade, today. Now
officially equipped with 16GB flash memory (instead of that 8GB microdrive), the new Advantage features TouchFLO, Opera Mobile 9, and Google Maps, as well as all the rest of the features you've come to know and love: GPS (with TomTom Navigator 6), 5-inch VGA display, 624MHz processor,
ATI video acceleration (
ahem), 256MB ROM / 128MB RAM, tri-band HSDPA, quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE, magnetic QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a "future version of Windows Mobile," which we're taking to mean
Windows Mobile 6.1. It'll be out in Europe in March, no price or specific date give, though -- and yes, US users are out of luck (for now).
Funny it was upgraded to 16gb along with the iPhone.
It may not look as aesthetic as the iPhone, but it sure kicks ass with those specs
totally.
What i find telling is that these pictures are all with the device *off* ...I don't think i've EVER seen an iPhone marketing picture where the phone was off, because they have an interface worth showing off.
Is it just me, or does HTC (and others) continually showing off their devices in the off position seem like a lack of confidence in the interface?
"US users are out of luck for now"
How are we out of luck with Tri-Band HSDPA and Quad-Band GSM?
it's lost it's dpad and windows/ok buttons too.
commas FTW!
Man I bit afraid to see the price of this bad boy, I mean the previous Advantage wasn't exactly cheap and that was with the 8gb of storage.
eh...storage is always relative to time. i mean, when i FIRST got my 2 gb mini sd almost 2 years ago, i think i paid 60-70 bucks, i just ordered my 8 gb micro sd from amazon about a week ago, well...for $75. 4x the storage, less than 2 years later for what...a 15% or less premium, not bad. shoot, when i first picked up my seagate 750 gig about a year ago, it was about 350, now i can get two of the same drives for less than that.
That's true...
It's got way more features than an iPhone, but try sticking that 16GB monster in your front pocket.
And this is why it has no future. Too big to be a phone, too small to be a laptop, and EEE PCs are more functional and cost less.
Seriously HTC, don't you remember the Psion Series 7/netBook? This form factor just doesn't work...
Who puts their phone in their pocket...
That's what a belt is for...
Mine fits fine in my pocket.
I don't know when the change happened, but there are now links back to the article from the gallery!
Thank you, Engadget. Thank you very much.
This was looking so damn great right up till the point where it said 'Windows Mobile'. I'm just a little confused, is this a phone, or a UMPC of sorts... If its a UMPC, just throw Linux on there, and this little thing will kick ass! A "real" ultra-portable.
Someone rip the drivers out of this and make them work on my Tilt.
A nice evolution of the X7500/01 series. I will wait this time for others to confirm that tomtom is actually included on the unit.
And if like the original X7500/01 it has A2DP stereo bluetooth, which rocks!
I have the advantage 7501, for sulfing love it, but the lack of support and the weak video drivers are a pain.
Dont plan to have HTC provide updates
Oh this thing is "teh sexah"! Keep up the great work HTC. We all love you!

i cant believe all the negative comments.
This is PK from xda who does the custom roms for the athena. anybody actually look how thin it is without the keyboard. its as thin almost as the old razr v3s. i wont most likely use the keyboard because i am currently using fingertouch from teksoftco and it gives a much better on screen keyboard than the iphone. the features on this monster blow everything else away and with the right apps and my custom rom nothing will beat this phone. oh well u guys dont have the cash for a phone as nice as this so u post shit about it.
I agree, 1st thing you should do when you get an Advantage is to toss the keyboard. It is then thin enough to fit into your (large) back pocket.
Pity the new x7510 drops the little joystick...
Well TomTom did come with it... the European version.
Just install TomTom like I did.
Are they planning to release the correct drivers for this one!!!!?
still not got them for my HTC TyTNII!
LEGIT
About using this badboy without its keyboard: Only if I can find a rubberized case, leather case that will custom fit him without the keyboard, sighhhh..... Its no where to be found!! Just Imagine how good it will look with one of those 'Iphone-ish' rubberized case, damn!
As for a leather case, look for the K4Mobile Leather Case HTC X7500.
Hope to help,
Tom
please does anyone know where i can trade in my old advantage phone X7501 for a new one X7510
i have htc x7501 and it is the best functional wm6 pda phone so far .
u can put the pda in your shirt pocket , it is not that excessively big .
u can still make calls by placing the pda side speaker to your ear & your mouth to it's mic .
u can remote desktop to any xp pc & surf with it via wifi , u will then see how fast it is , how light it is compare to laptop , & it's not hot at all .
u can use it's slim keyboard at ease with some practise like when u first use iphone .
u can upgrade from wm5 to wm6 and to wm 6.1 .
u can download loads of software & some iphone finger touch style software is coming out soon .
it is bigger than normal handphone because it's a PDA - u get it !
it is also more stable compare to others including my 16gb iphone which i have jailbreak countless of times & counting ( fyi - i also love my iphone )
if u like pda with a lot of functions - buy the best like x7501 or x7510 .
but please see and feel that u like the actual unit first before u buy , otherwise no point of regrets later - right friend ?
since everyone complain it's expensive , maybe buy an used unit at a lower investment & risk .
thank you & best regards , enjoy ... :)
