Guitar Hero World Tour priced, given release date
Now that we've been enticed with what Guitar Hero World Tour will look like, GameStop has revealed the upcoming rock simulator's price and release date. $189.99 will get you the Guitar Hero World Tour "Band Kit" with drum kit, guitar, and microphone. Meanwhile, the "Guitar Kit" at $99.99 will come with just the guitar controller. For those of you who want to use your current controller (assuming current controllers will work), the game-only version will run $59.99 (or $49.99 for the PS2 and Wii). The game's ship date, as of now, is set at 10/27/08.

I sure hope my GH3 Les Paul controller works. Right now I can play Rock Band and GH3 (and hopefully Aerosmith) with the controller. Lame if they make you upgrade.
applefan @ May 24th 2008 7:12PM
Ughh I am so bored.
Anybody else bored?
Abuzar @ May 24th 2008 8:38PM
When I get bored I play COD4 on my PC. You should be able to soon.
Ray @ May 24th 2008 10:21PM

hamster3000 @ May 24th 2008 11:38PM
@Abuzar
They already sell the COD4 for Mac. Slight google search would have given quick info.
BobfromVegas @ May 24th 2008 11:49PM
@hamster3000:
Yea, the only problem is that I have to buy it off the net, or travel 400 miles to find a store that MIGHT have one.
Jim @ May 25th 2008 3:11AM
If you're bored, play GTA IV with the cheat codes were you get all the weapons and the health and armor and go around shooting cop cars and SWAT vans w/ the RPG launcher. It will literally give you about 3-4 hours worth of fun.
Yeah, I know, sick.
eric f. @ May 25th 2008 11:07AM
@BobfromVegas, Yeah, that is a problem, since we all know how difficult and scary internet shopping can be. And how do you get one of those credit card thingies?
shayne @ May 26th 2008 10:33PM
i found one at the apple store in the easton town center in columbus, OH if that helps...
Abuzar @ May 25th 2008 7:19PM
I don't think COD4 for Mac is out yet. That's why I said soon.
Pedro @ May 24th 2008 7:24PM
Got the guitar from GH3, just want the drum kit... Hopefully they'll think of their previous customers!
AJ in the East Bay @ May 24th 2008 7:27PM
Exactly. I got GH3 for the Wii and just need the drums.
smi1ey @ May 25th 2008 3:30AM
EXACTLY. I have 2 les paul controllers, because I was pretty sure they would be going the Rock Band route soon. I hope they're actually smart and offer the drums/mic as a separate purchase at launch, rather than months after.
Kevin @ Jul 26th 2008 8:29AM
I have a Les Paul Controller but i am going to buy the entire kit so i will have bass and lead guitar if any of my friends come over :)
Greg @ May 24th 2008 7:38PM
Well, I was gonna buy Rockband next month...but I might just wait and get this one.
However, I do like the surreal feeling that Rockband has, Guitar Hero just seems too cartoon-y all around now. Same reason I don't play Halo 3 anymore, Call of Duty 4 is just graphically a better game.
dagamer34 @ May 24th 2008 8:05PM
Do not reward companies that copy others with your money.
Kaemon @ May 24th 2008 10:33PM
Personally, I know Rock band is now the "Old" thing, but Rock band has PROVEN itself to have a good stream of DLC, with good songs, and they're the creative ones who proved that Guitar games work, and now that Drums worked. Neversoft is once again just taking what Harmonix made great, and running it into the ground. (Only unlike how they've ruined the name "guitar hero" to me, they'll never ruin the name "Rock band")
Alan Strangis @ May 25th 2008 12:06AM
@ Kaemon: Couldn't agree more.
Joshco10 @ May 24th 2008 7:58PM
$190?! you cant be serious. Why is it $20 more than Rock Band. we must be paying for blink 182's drummer, police's drummer, and RHCP's drummer to have played on them. idk if im getting it now, the price is too steep for plastic controllers. Unless theres a pack w/ just the game, the drums, nd the mic. thats all i need
Ben @ May 24th 2008 9:03PM
Agreed. I've already got a GH3 wii controller, and if they don't make it backwards compatible and make a package which just includes the drum kit... I'm going with rock band.
...actually, whoever can get DLC on the Wii gets my money.
LoveLikeRocketsx @ May 25th 2008 4:41PM
yeah , like Rockband didnt copy Guitar Hero , right?
Alan Strangis @ May 25th 2008 12:02AM
@ Ben: Harmonix announced that they'll be releasing Rock Band DLC discs for about $30 US, with 25 tracks. That makes it cheaper per song, but you have to go with the tracks they select.
It's actually pretty reasonable, as each RB song is about 25 MB, so Wii storage would evaporate...
I'd post a URL, but don't want people to think I'm spamming. :D
Joseph @ May 25th 2008 3:16AM
yeah, they already announced in their press release that Guitar Hero World Tour for Wii will be the first of it's kind to have DLC on the Wii.
Rock Band won't ever; just the ripoff discs. Unless you want most of the songs on there.
Jarhead2012 @ May 25th 2008 5:10PM
@LoveLikeRocketsx
I hope you're kidding. If you are, then it was a very bad joke, ranked down. If you aren't, then I'll help to rid you of your ignorance.
Harmonix, the makers of DDR, created Guitar Hero, and developed GHI and GHII. Before GHIII was announced, Activision bought the GH franchise, and let Neversoft develop GHIII. Shortly after GHIII was announced from the EA/Activision camp, Harmonix came back and literally knocked GH off its feet with the announcement of Rock Band. So technically, Rock Band is the spiritual successor of Guitar Hero II. If you want to make it technical, GHIII was a copy off of GHII and GHIV is a copy of Rock Band. Harmonix has been leading the way with original stuff the entire time, and Activision is just capitalizing on it by coming out with a game that has superior controllers since it also owns RedOctane, arguably the best Instrument Peripherals makers in the business.
Sorry for the rant, but Ignorance is my mortal enemy

JustFrozen @ May 27th 2008 2:57PM
@Jarhead2012:
You do realize Harmonix copied both the guitar and drums idea from Konami, right? (GuitarFreaks and DrumMania). Your entire argument is now moot.
Sorry for the rant, but Ignorance is my mortal enemy
Kawaiipikachu @ May 24th 2008 8:26PM
All i want is the drumkit not the mic & my Les Paul wprks fine .
$180.00us = about $210.00-220.00au vs rockbands kit $200.00au + game $100.00au = $300.00au so Would Tour is a better deal as i only wanted rockband for its drumkit .
michael @ May 24th 2008 8:35PM
is it gonna be wireless?
Darren @ May 24th 2008 10:45PM
It's gonna be lame.
Patrick @ May 24th 2008 8:43PM
Can we assume that everyone in Europe will be getting shafted with the price and paying over double like with Rock Band?
Amirisme @ May 24th 2008 8:49PM
Ohhh yeah! Can't wait.
zephead @ May 24th 2008 9:13PM
Has a song list been released yet?
Joshua Fruhlinger @ May 24th 2008 9:29PM
Just an initial list of artists, zephead: Van Halen, Linkin Park, The Eagles, and Sublime
Darren @ May 24th 2008 10:50PM
They're covering all the genres: oldies (Van Halen), golden oldies (Zeppelin, Eagles), classic rock (Sublime), and disco (Linkin Park).
tyler @ May 24th 2008 11:44PM
Sublime is classic rock? Wait..
Alan Strangis @ May 24th 2008 11:56PM
@ Darren: Maybe it's the beer, but classifying Linkin Park as disco made me LMAO.
Brilliant!
Anthony @ May 24th 2008 10:01PM
Drums in Guitar Hero?!??! They should just make a Drum Hero game and stop copying Rock Band.
Ray @ May 24th 2008 10:28PM
Damn who cares if Activision "copied" Harmonix? Both of the games aren't original ideas.
Guitar Hero didnt start the whole fake guitar playing thing and Rock Band didn't start the fake drum thing. Rock Band may of been the 1st to combine them all but that's it.
Alan Strangis @ May 24th 2008 11:54PM
The reason I'm not interested? Because of Activision's lame ass 'guitar driver' licensing crap. Guitar Hero III is the last music game I buy from them.
That may sound petty, but no more petty than their actions.
Jon A. @ May 24th 2008 11:55PM
And people complain about Wii Fit's price!?
tiuk @ May 25th 2008 1:44AM
They'll be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't make Rock Band drums work.
Phoenix @ May 25th 2008 3:50PM
Different amounts of buttons AFAIK
RJ2000 @ Sep 3rd 2008 9:42PM
They already said that both kits will work for the oposite game. I think I read that at the WIKI so thats not a for sure, but I am pretty confident it is accurate.
Also a tip for everyone... why go with EA who makes SH*T games when you can go with a smaller specialized Company.
Phoenix @ May 25th 2008 3:51PM
and you just KNOW they're gonna screw us Brits over and make it like £500
Steve-o @ May 25th 2008 4:09PM
PLEASE say it will blend
Michael @ Jun 28th 2008 5:33PM
It will blend, the old Gh2 and Gh3 guitar will work, however at the new guitar features a touchpad and more.... you will have a limited experience with the old guitars.
warwick @ May 26th 2008 4:05AM
I guarantee you that this will be released in australia before rockband. Lets just say, Harmonix, That I only have enough room and money for one band-game, and its going to be the one thats on the shelf here first.
pumpkinhead @ May 29th 2008 12:33AM
they should have more metallica one kicked ass in part 3
Critical_Matt @ May 31st 2008 3:13PM
You know, If you're going to make a lame comment like "ignorance is my mortal enemy" you'd better make damn sure that you know everything...for example, Activision has been the franchise publisher starting with Guitar Hero 2. In case you never played the first one, the controls were unbearable. Activision is probably the reason that this franchise stayed alive. And how the Hell can anyone say that Guitar Hero is ripping off Rock band, even though Rock Band wasn't released until there were already THREE (don't forget Rock the 80s) successful Guitar Hero games? And to be honest, anyone who owns a major game console has no room to complain about major corporations, monopolies, and licensing rights. And why are we complaining about the price of these things? If you plan on buying this game, you most likely have a console to play it on, so you know what an expensive industry this is.
Sorry for the rant, but ignorance...yeah, you get the point...check your facts, people.
tadd @ Jun 7th 2008 11:11PM
guitar heros drums look better to play.
