Flee digital camera concept promises to catch some air

We've seen bouncy cameras and cameras that can be lobbed ahead for surveillance purposes, but this new concept from Turkish designer Hakan Bogazpinar looks to take the idea of tossable cameras one step further, with it boasting a specially designed tail intended to help keep it properly oriented. According to Bogazpinar, the camera would also be able to be customized to take still images at various intervals (but no video, it seems), and it'd even boast built-in Bluetooth to transfer those images straight to the device of your choice. There doesn't seem to be any word on any plans to take this one beyond the concept stage, unfortunately, but this is one concept that certainly seems like it could attract some backing.

Am I supposed to play racquetball with it?
Ignatius @ Jul 11th 2008 3:48PM
The only way to record the upcoming can't-miss documentary, "Life of a Racquetball".

I fail at obscure sports that involve a racket. My apologies.

that's one nice ass.

Not Raquetball:
It's Badminton.

Video would be sweet! Badminton from a birdie's-eye view!

According to figure (A) on the page, it has "bluetooht"
Nice.

Of all the crazy and pointless ideas. This obviously has no useful applications.
Well, unless you count unethical efforts to whack this thing into ladies' restrooms, and the like. Counting those, they'll easily sell millions; _why_ is it going to stay a concept?

I agree. "Fun" isn't very practical or useful. People should really stop having fun altogether, it's just a waste of time.

Say what you want about the practicality of such a device, but I have to give some kudos to the design on this one. Definitely the most attractive throwable digital camera that I've seen in a while. That it's the only throwable digital camera that I've seen in a while should in no way diminish this.

No video? Video is just that: "[taking] still images at various [very short] intervals."
If the device has sufficient storage, couldn't one set the interval to take one picture every .3 seconds (or whatever) and capture short vids that way?
Zaidyn @ Jul 11th 2008 4:37PM
Then you'd have a bunch of .jpg files- not a video.

Im not getting the usefulness of this. Why would you need to toss something to get a photo, and of what.
Whats with the completely white Nokia something phone. Phones usually have numbers stamped on them.

Then they'd have to pay licensing royalties to the manufacturer.

Anyone have a giant badminton racquet? Or better yet, a baseball bat?
Genius Jones @ Jul 11th 2008 4:55PM
Reality check, I could throw a ping pong ball far enough to get out of bluetooth range.
It's going to have to have built-in storage, and download after you retrieve it. It'll be cheaper too, and use less power maybe.
BigD145 @ Jul 11th 2008 5:53PM
Can I submit crotch shots to some blooper video TV show?
billedluh @ Jul 11th 2008 6:10PM
according to the blow up view through the read link it supports bluetooht.
Boynamedsue @ Jul 11th 2008 7:35PM
This would be cool if it was video. which begs the question, why make your invention seem lamer in the CONCEPT stage.
say it can do video. it doesn't exist yet. pussy out later but for right now raise your expectations. It can do video and blow you and make pancakes.
kevin @ Jul 12th 2008 11:39AM
It looks like a shuttlecock

for a controlled flight, using a shuttlecock as an inspiration is really a bright idea..
