Boston-Power signs up HP as first partner for next-gen batteries

It's not exactly much of a surprise given that HP has already shown some considerable interest in the company, but Boston-Power has now finally officially announced that HP will be the first laptop manufacturer to offer its long-lasting (and less explosion-prone) Sonata batteries, which HP will sell under its new Enviro Series brand. According to Boston-Power, those batteries will be available as an optional upgrade in early 2009, and they'll be compatible with the "majority" of HP's consumer laptops. What's more, HP will also be offering a three-year warranty with the batteries, which is apparently the longest one available from a laptop manufacturer and, just as notably, this also apparently marks the first time that a US battery company has sold batteries to one of the top laptop manufacturers. One detail that hasn't been announced just yet, however, is the price, though we're guessing that little detail should be making itself known before too long.

Will it make your laptop sound like Markey Mark?
"Say hi to ya motha for me, peripheral"
According to Gizmodo, they will be available "at a $20-$30 premium" over normal batteries.
Hmm so the longer lasting meaning more charges or longer usage times or both?
With either of these improvements I'll be considering a laptop some time in the future. Especially if that little amount of extra cash gets what will hopefully be a good battery.
Hell, I'd pay $50 premium on a $200 battery if it had a freakin 3 year warranty. Most POS (piece of S) batteries hardly last the 1 year. I'm down to 50% on one of them after just 13 months!!!
I even treat my batteries well (never below 20%, store at 40%, store in cool location, etc.)
Will it blend?
Seriously...stop. Use your brain, throw in some originality. Do you just camp engadget..waiting for a new post so you can quickly throw in a "first post", or a "will it blend", or a "but can it play crysis?". Anyways, sorry about my rant, back to the topics;
While it is nice that the battery will last 3 years (not nice, but Great! actually), I wish they had extended how long it would last in hours as well. I'm assuming just like the standard hp batteries, this will give a life of 2.5-3.5 hours. C'mon companies, we gotta reach that 5 hour mark without having a giant bulge sticking out of our laptops. But still, a move in the right direction.
What the f*ck are you talking about Shaggy? Have you seen any of my previous posts? I guess not if you let out this POS!
Anyways, back on topic, I'm actually glad the batteries are finally getting some love as the ridiculous max. 2h battery life has been really annoying on most of the laptops nowdays. Or even mob. phones, which is even more frustrating.
It seems that my first post blent...
It sure does blend. ... Your post with the background colour that is.
loocas, I LOL at your failure.
Wow, and you get High Ranked for this lame line, Precurse. Truly amazing.
It's not a failure, it's a disaster, I admit, Samboini :)
Last time I checked a disaster was still a failure.
Wow, it seems as thou whatever I post here goes transparent!
Miracle, I say!
Man, I have to even hit CTRL+A to read your posts (and then rank down).
Engadget comment system is good sometimes ;).
Is there anything I can do to make up for the epic fail of mine? o_O
Yay! There's nothing more annoying than realizing that your laptop batteries can't even hold the same charge as they used to. This is much cheaper than having to buy a new battery a couple years down the road.
So HP will launch a new line of laptops? When will that happen and will those laptop come with laptop version of i7????????
when you calm down sir!
i7 baby.
now then.
USA!!
USA!!
USA!!

US battery company... nice... but where will they be made?
Anfield...?
Hate to tell you, but the Inventor, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Boston Power is Swedish... Namely Dr. Christina Lampe-Onnerud
http://www.boston-power.com/christina-lampe-onnerud.html
China built a cheap copy of Anfield as well?
Is it next to their cheap copy of Disneyland?
Cheap copy of Disneyland?
I think you mean to say, copy of Disneyland.
Theres no way you can build that place for any less than they did.
China already copied Disneyland. It's called Shijingshan Amusement Park.
WHeres the specs? like how many hours? And will this be exclusive with HP or it will be eventually available with other manufacturers?
So reading through their site I see virtually no proof on how these are any better than current li-ion batteries. Even the press release barely mentions the technology way at the bottom. There is a bunch of green BS though. Li-ion is pretty green all by it self. Nothing toxic like say the ni-cads in Prius's.
I call shenanigans.
I hope they last long
Wait, wait, wait...Less prone to explosions? In this day and age don't we always want more of everything?
So are these just A123 cells or what? :/ Good news anyway, I love innovation in battery packs.
Some say that the children are our future. I'd bet on batteries.
I KID! I KID!
Why can't batteries be compatible with a range of laptops?
