10-inch Acer Aspire One now official in the US
You've read the specs, gawked at the pics, and pored over the reviews -- and now Acer will officially accept your hard-earned United States currency and ship you a 10-inch Acer Aspire One D150. Yep, it's here, and although we've more or less moved on to waiting for the next generation of netbooks based on Ion or at least the Atom N280 with the GN40 chipset, the D150 is basically as good as the current crop of 1.6GHz Atom N270 machines gets for $350 -- just make sure you score the good battery. So, anyone gonna shell out, or are we all waiting for round two together?

It will be sweet if Acer sells none of those because everyone is looking for the ones "with better batteries", lol.
fight!
See, Acer, the idea is that you INCREMENT model numbers when you come out with new ones. So, you don't have five "Aspire Ones". You have the Aspire Two, Aspire Three, and so on.
Duh.
Apple does it all the time. It keeps things simple for the users. Do you think the Average Joe cares about the difference between a D150, D160, and D170?
Apple? What numbered product names do they even have? Their products are called things like "MacBook", "Mac Pro", "iPod Touch"...
Which products are you talking about?
I'm waiting for a certain tablet to come out in a couple of months. Soooo want that tablet.
I personally broke down and have the 1000HE preordered. Considering it's only 25 bucks more (with the preorder discount on amazon) than this guy, the chiclet Keyboard, upgraded processor and FSB, and inclusion of Bluetooth made it more appealing to me.
Yeah, I think you made the better purchase... there's nothing here that the Asus hasn't already done. Maybe a slightly better looking design. I'm debating getting the EEE 1000HA this morning, decisions, decisions.....
Arg! The Asus 1000HE apparently comes with a glossy display .... booooo! No sell, you're right for $25.00 more; it's not bad to pre-order. But glossy, no thanks .... keep it matte Asus!
The Asus 1000HE comes wih a matte, NOT glossy screen. Try reading reviews and specs instead of just skimming, or lieing.
Actually you can get the 1000HE for $340 between J&R and using MS Live Search's Cashback program. You get 7% of the price back, which you can just transfer with Pay Pal or a bank account once the deal is done. The $25+ showed up on my cashback page within 5 minutes of ordering.
Glossy body, matte screen (as the laptop mag review says, page 2). The 1000he has the rigid chicklet keyboard which won me over. Much better battery / power management and 1gb ram on the preorder model doesn't hurt either.
This Guy:
You're right I apologize... it is a matte screen. These little netbooks are pretty cool I hate to say it. The HE looks like to be an excellent choice in terms of netbook selection.
Anyone have any idea when this thing is getting shipped out, I've heard late February. Is this correct?
I've been wanting a netbook for a long time, but I think I'm going to wait until round 2. I want the best netbook I can get.
You might be better off waiting for round 3 with quad core Atoms.
I'd wait until at least the next gen platforms are out with either the next gen chipset from Intel that is supposed to lower power consumption or the Ion platform for better video/gaming performance. And maybe wait until Windows 7 pricing and versioning for netbooks is clear. Actually, maybe wait until Windows 7 is shipping. Except by then there'll be Nano-based products coming out and you might want to wait and see if those are more powerful. Also, I'm pretty sure that next year there will be better, faster, cheaper and larger SSD drives available for these things so you might want to wait for those to ship. Also, in the current economic environment you never know which of these vendors will survive so you might want to wait until we figure out which of them will make it through--you wouldn't want to buy into a dead-end platform would you? Also, I hear that Apple might be coming out with a netbook in spring 2011, I'd be inclined to wait for that. Also, you know that Windows 7 touch screen capabilities are going to take a big jump in Service Pack 1, so you might want to...
Ditto.... Love me some Aspire One, but there is no sense in wasting the money on one when N280 Atoms and GN40 chipsets are right around the corne.
Too bad Acer... Good product, crappy timing.
Windows XP® Home with Service Pack 3
That's all I needed to know.
is that a good thing?
No.
@J WilliamsJust by looking at his avatar, it was almost obvious it wasn't a good thing for him :P
mp-3:
Yeah, I assumed -- but you never know. Hard to tell sarcasm on the interwebs. Windows XP who cares though? He/she can just put Ubuntu on it later on. I'd rather have Windows XP on it personally. Eh, to each their own.
To be fair, there are many who dual boot Ubuntu and Windows and hate OS X with a passion, I just use OS X and Ubuntu and hate Windows with a passion..
..and who knows how desperate people are for Windows XP with 7 not released yet... it's not an entirely unreasonable guess.
...but if you look at my comment history, that becomes a bit clearer..
Blah. I just ordered the M&A Companion Touch, the convertible netbook-tablet based on the Classmate 3. It might be designed for kids, but it's got everything I ever wanted in a portable computer. Tablet, keyboard, durable construction, and it's even a Handle! WOOT!
BTW, if anybody else orders one, make sure to do a price check online first. I could have saved quite a bit ordering the same model from a different company. I gotz BURNED on the price. :p
Dear Acer,
Why oh why oh why oh why did you not make the keyboard bigger, the touchpad wider, and the touchpad buttons dedicated?
What a wasted opportunity.
Indeed. The lack of a *full-width* keyboard on these new 10" Acer's is the primary reason I'm not even considering upgrading my AA1. The keyboard on the original 8.9" AA1 *is* full-width, which amounts to 92% of regular size (iirc), so a full-width on a 10" should be very close to 100% and much easier to type on. Somebody will get this right - hopefully one of the Atom+Ion netbooks to come.
Woo... now I just wait for the price drop on the 8.9" model :)
I might buy one.. But i guess i need to sell my 8.9 One first.. any takers??? Upgraded to 320GB and 1.5GB ram..... O well at least i got a good deal on it.. ($125)
hook it up! Im lookin for the 8.9 model at a good price. 10 is too big for me
Just saw the acer aspire one 8.9" for $240 at newegg. Thats a damn good price is you ask me. Note: it's the linux version for all you n00bz.

@Cass
That's a good deal, but you get the 3 cell battery. I would love to get it at that price with the 160gb HDD, XP, and the 6-cell battery, but heh, we'll see about that.
is there only ONE touchpad button, rather than a right & left?
It runs XP, jb. You can be sure that its "one button" clicks the left button on the left and the right on the right.
Might be considering this one, nothing less than 10" for me.
I can barely take 8.9", you're a champ.
you need to work on your breathing. it helps
Victor:
Har, har, har =)
When will it be available in Canada? Been Googling 2 hours now and I still can't find anymore details :P
I got me a 8.9" AAO, I'll wait for an Ion version before I upgrade.
the trackpad is small though....
Why is it we can't let go of the cramped 1024x600 res even as netbook screens get larger?
This looks nice, but I'm waiting for the Dell Mini 10, myself. I just hope the Dell has a keyboard just like the one found in this Acer (very nice keyboard, btw).
From the Engadget picks, it has a full-width keyboard, so likely a little more "full size" than this. Also the right shift key is in the right spot. Rather than shifting the cursor keys down a notch, then just shrunk them down, which probably makes them pretty tiny, but might be okay. Also the trackpad is as big as they could make it, unlike this one.
I think for acer aspire one battery the lighter the better .
As the acer aspire one is a Eee pc not a traditional notebook. Its weight is light.
I search the aspire one battery with Google, but all most are 9cells 6600mAh or 6 Cell 5200-5800mAh it is too heavy
In the end I found 6-cell battery here : http://www.laptops-battery.co.uk/acer-aspire-one-battery.htm
But it only available in UK and Europe
