Samsung's M7 500GB laptop drive can take a licking
While we've seen plenty of 500GB hard disks for laptops but Samsung's SpinPoint M7 is the first with the guts to call itself "rugged." The dual-platter, 2.5-inch drive spins at 5400rpm and features a 400G operational shock tolerance -- that's about 50G better than the claimed tolerances of other 500GB drives and 75G better than Sammy's own Spinpoint M6. Expect to see the M7 ship sometime this month.

what about prices? FUCK
I'd guess that FUCK will be the appropriate expression when you find out.
Is that spanky from "our gang"? I loved that show.
They prices will get released soon BALLS
Leave this lot, losers.
Unless you want a licking.
And we'd love to deliver that licking, right, fellas?
Yeah!
Love it!
A lot!
I'd love to lick a lemon lollipop in Lillehammer.
nice family guy reference
they better be better than them 500gb m6's. I just had 2 DIE on me.....not moving, no shock, just sitting on a desk.
Samsung HD = FAIL
Yes but Sumsang HD = WIN
Hitachi's 500 GB 2.5" is also 400G operating...http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/site/en/products/travelstar/5K500/
Hmm... I wonder if this means the Spinpoint M6's will drop in price; my PS3 could use a bump in drive capacity for some Ubuntu shenanigans.
Okay, so how fast of a deceleration does it take to create 400G's of force?
I would guess 400 times the force of gravity which is approximately 10m/s, so 4000m/s/s. I'm not 100% sure on this, I can't remember most of the shit I learnt in school.
The M7 is already for sale from newegg

I have one of the first ones they made in my macbook (SAMSUNG HM500LI) and it works fine since I got it almost a year ago. And it has gone through many abuses dare I say, and still works fine. Maybe I just got lucky?
Ah, yes, Alfalfa, Spanky and Butch ... if only Samsung was around then. Things would be so much different today.
Good times...good times...
AH, but the real question is... where the hell is Seagate's 7200.4 2.5" 500GB, 7200RPM drives? They are MIA.
They were available, for a very short period of time and now you can't find them anywhere. Been looking for months now.
I'm just curios of the price...hope they release soon since I'm in the market for a 500gb drive for my HP Pavilion notebook. I just purchased a Western Digital 320gb 7200 rpm with free fall sensor for my Macbook and it works great so far.
So if I drop my PS3 with this puppy, it will be able to still work, without the PS3!? =O
