ASUS Eee PC T91 confirmed for late May or early June release in the UK
We've seen plenty of the ASUS Eee PC T91 ever since its first appearance back at CES in January, but now, according to Electric Pig, the swivel tableted, touchscreen-boasting Eee PC has been confirmed by ASUS for a "late May or early June" release in the UK. Sadly, there's still no further word (beyond its April appearance at the FCC) for a Stateside release, but the UK model is expected to retail for £449 (about $685) when it launches there. We'll just have to be patient, we suppose.

So, how long before we get the inevitable "They're ripping off Apple's stylings!" post? (Hint: This one doesn't count.)
Also, that looks nice. I've been waiting for a decent affordable tablet PC for ages.
it's very cheap to mod a touchscreen anyway. might as well buy a 701 and mod it yourself ;)
large and centered trackpad
This was supposed to be the netbook I was waiting for, but at those prices, forget it. I guess I was just being naive hoping for something more reasonable.
i think i read that the T91 has GPS and something else, while the T101H doesn't. if that's true, the T101H might be cheaper. also, if you're from the states, prices in the US tend to be a bit better than the exchange rate. personally i'm waiting for more news on the T101H.
I understand US pricing will probably be less, but it would have to be a whole lot less for me to be interested. I'm also waiting on the T101H, mostly because I think it has a better keyboard. It's been awhile since I've read the spec sheets on both of these, but I think they both have slower processors than the netbooks we're used to these days.
is there tomtom guide for xp?
This is probably the last hope for the tablet PC format. Prices of tablets had been silly in the past.
This really isn't a good example of a Tablet PC. The screen is a passive digitizer rather than active (from what I'm seeing so far... if anyone knows otherwise, please post), so it can take finger input and that of a stylus, but it won't do pressure and the pen has to be physically on the screen for it to be picked up. With a Tablet/Active Digitizer, you can hover the pen and move the cursor around the screen. It does effect the quality of input pretty severely, especially since it's a little harder to distinguish things like palms.
Yeah, passive digitizer sucks. And uh, you can get an HP tx series tablet for under $800 sometimes if you wait to find a sale, they've even dropped to $600 a few times.
Hah, I was going to recommend that. They've been prone to heating issues, or so I've heard. However, I think the graphics card in the later model almost makes it worth the risk. Just pick it up with an extended warranty if possible.
I know my fiancé would really like one of these for ebook reading as an alternative to an e-ink reader. Listen to Pandora, watch Hulu, read email and check up on Facebook all while curled up on the couch...
Engadget, you're slipping--it looks like Asus won't ship the T91 to North America, period. Allasus.com had been taking pre-orders then abruptly had to cancel and announced that Asus had informed them that they weren't going to sell the unit in North America after all. Makes me wonder if they got royalty demands (or threats of litigation) from (a) US patent holder(s) claiming the unit infringes on existing US-issued patents. If the larger model also doesn't get shipped to North America then I'd say it's a pretty good bet another company is claiming the convertible design infringes on their existing patent. (Could also explain why only importers are willing to sell the Kojinsha and Gigabyte convertible tablets in North America.)
no offense, but i sincerely hope that you're wrong. i was really looking forward to the T101H.
If you're pulling my leg, there is no place on this god forsaken planet you can hide from the wrath I'd bestow upon you.
THIS CAN'T BE.
I've been checking up on these models 3-4 times a week since the first rumors surfaced.
My 1000HA's mo'bo malfunctioned and fried within a week after purchase, and I had to send it back for a refund. I was so impressed with it, though, I was still planning on buying in the Eee PC family. I've postponed another purchase for six months now, solely in anticipation of this model. THIS NETBOOK IS THE LOVECHILD OF MY FAVORITE TECHNOLOGY.
Gigabyte's tablet netbook = UK ONLY.
Asus's tablet netbook = UK ONLY.
Intel's tablet netbook = PIECE OF SHIT.
What's a man have to do to get a decent piece of technology this side of the puddle?
What do we have to do to get some good technology this side of the puddle? I'll get on my knees and bark like a dog if I have to.
Holy shit, the only thing worse than Luna is Luna twice its normal size.
Patience is not one of my virtues.
I still want to mod the hell out of this thing. I'm keeping an eye out for this.
God, finally, I was wondering when they were going to get around to making an Asus laptop post today.
Color me uninterested. I was waiting a while for the T91/T101H to finally, you know, be released and I got pretty bored pretty fast. That combined with an ugly glossy everything and I sprung for the Gigabyte T1028M. 10" tablet netbook, but with a removable battery and upgradable HDD, RAM and PCI-e. The best part is is that it is actually purchasable! I bought mine from mobilx.hu and it just showed up today.
I can't say that the T91/T101H is going to be an interesting tablet line, they're just too expensive...
I won't be buying a laptop anytime soon.. My Asus N10J has a problem with the screen where a bunch of lines appear when I drag a window to the left. Reinstalling or doing anything with the BIOS won't fix it. My sister's boyfriend probably has a buyer and I'm getting rid of this thing, as well as my EEE 900. Unless the nano chips become uber powerful, sorry Asus.
I was thinking of modding a backpack to hold a small desktop inside though! Oh ho ho!
Meh, I was interested in this, but now a large part of me thinks I'd be better off waiting for Windows 7 touch-compatible multitouch netbooks... (though on the other hand, who knows how long that could take, I might end up having to wait until this time next year)
So I'll just say, is a glossy screen on a touch device the best combination? (Alright, cellphones do do it all the time, but it's easier to wipe off a small cellphone as well...)
Hmmm, this, or an HP TX2 for 400-600 bucks? This will completely fail if asus keeps it at that price point.
funny no one yet has commented yet on the extreme glossyness, or on the lousy engadget e on the screen
Oh how I H A T E those high glare glossy screens! All laptop screens need to be like Lenovo's no glare screens! STOP WITH THE HIGH GLARE SCREENS ALREADY!!!
Truly, let's totally boycott ALL glossy laptop screens!
Isn't the windows key usually between the alt key and they space bar?
the space bar, even.
Not on my keyboard...
As an Asus representative stated back in January: the t91 will be available "around March" (passed), and the t101h "will follow about two months later".
As seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOxcHh-iMlY
Pretty expensive mirror.
How could anyone use this thing for anything else than applying makeup?
maybe expensive, but it's most flexible...
Remember this is UK price that has an extra 15% or 17.5% VAT, so if it ever does go to the US it will be ~ $576 - $588.
Any word yet on whether they're going to do a Xandros version? or will it be stuck with just XP/7?
