Qualcomm's Mirasol e-reader to get game controller, Cheetos fingerprints? (video)
Don't get too excited, it's just a non-functional proof-of-concept (albeit one with that working, full-color Mirasol display we saw yesterday) but the kids at SlashGear have produced pics of the snap-on game controls that Qualcomm is musing as a possible addition to your next e-reader. And why not? If you're going to get a full-color, low-power device that supports video, you'd better be able to kill the undead on it during periods of downtime. Just so long as iDracula doesn't play here like it does on Android -- that would be a disaster. Get another look below (including a fine video of the display in action). And hit the read link for the full-on gallery treatment. We dare you.

i guess it's for only serious gamers if the lettered buttons are written sideways
i wish i was a serious gamer. ='(
Whats the refresh rate on these e-reader screens again, something super low like 30Hertz right? Yay! its 1993 laptop gaming all over again!
or
Gaming is going to be spooky on this, with all the ghosts!
@Grammar Delinquent 30hz would be great, what i heard was more like 2hz...
@Grammar Delinquent this isn't e-ink,it's a new technology - full color, video capable, but with the battery life of e-ink screens
Can you make that a USB plugin for my PSP?
Cute in theory, ugly in practice.
@Saad Rabia I concurr
these things should be available for phones.
Wait, gaming on an e-ink screen? What will you play, snake? Of course it will be a super easy version of snake since the screen can only refresh so quick enough.
@tmfan not e-ink,it's mirasol
Im not sure how well gaming would work on E-ink?
@GingerFox lol, ya it probably wouldn't work too well.
@GingerFox
Good thing this has nothing to do with e-ink.
@jon
Does it not? My mistake.
drool. want.
but is it me, or does the video look like a late-90's version of a bad lcd? color's all off, looks drab and screen is tiny.
glad i didn't pull the trigger on a kindle. or kindle 2. or kindle dx
also...pixel qi....where are u?
@Jason
It has no active light, it uses ambient light. When used indoors it looks less brighter than AMOLED, LED, LCD... but if it's used outdoors it's as brighter as a butterfly. That's the key. It saves energy by using ambient light (and and other techniques)
nice to see two analogue sticks anyway..

Hey engadget, you know that tech you use to tell if people read the contest rules. Could you add it to all the posts, so that only people who RTFA can comment?
@jon
Haha yeah, before your comment submits there should be a radio-button quiz that reads something like "Mirasol is E-ink technology: True. False."
I want a dream laptop with a switch button which toggles between full colored e-ink and led display ! that possibility leashes me to buy a new Laptop
Look at that SCE, 2 analog sticks!
This is what the iphone needs
Did the people who designed that controller input ever hear of the word "ergonomics"?
If they can make the buttons itself have mirasol or OLED displays on their surface, that would be cool too.
Why do they always make such a wide bezel to surround the display? It would look cooler with a minimalist bezel (even if the device has to gain thickness).
It's mainly to give you a place to grip, without getting fingerprints all over the screen. It probably also provides some shock protection.
