OPPO Enjoy looks like just another Android e-reader

Another day, another Android e-reader. We apologize for not sounding overly enthusiastic about this one, but going off of the picture of the OPPO Enjoy we don't anticipate the 6-inch e-ink reader to be the next Kindle or Nook killer. The rest of the specs are unknown, though it looks like the main controls are the trackball on the right edge and touch navigation keys on the left. You know what, maybe we're being too pessimistic. Perhaps the Enjoy really runs the next version of Android, is Tegra 2 powered and actually has a color display. Alright, that's all very unlikely, but a reader can dream.

wow. super informative Joanna! With no details or specs at hand, your pessimism is based on....? The picture?
@AstroSeven Read the title and you'll know why
@werty1432k >> hmm maybe there's a section written in invisible ink. Tegra 2 and color display means a healthy price hike. If a company could make a kindle-esque greyscale device that handled well, was more flexible with format support and was cheap, they'd sell beyond the realm of gadget geeks students and soccer moms. It's these details which we'd want to know about the OPPO, not Joanna DuBois psychic premonitions.
@AstroSeven You probably work for OPPO. Let your boss know his ereader sucks. Thanks.
@TSIG > lolz... If I was an employee of this company I hadn't heard of before Joanna mentioned them - I'd make sure I'd posted some useful specs rather than a tarot reading !
I wonder when the school board will start giving out E-readers to students instead of textbooks.
When the textbook cartels decide that money really isn't that big of a deal.
@ethana2 They can still charge people to download the books..
At least we all know, Android is good for E-Readers :-)
@prewreckless Is there anything Android can't do? :p
Looks pretty solid. Awesome review. I give it two thumbs up.
Okay actually I'm wondering how someone gets paid to write this crap. I'm guessing Joanna thought she was being cute.
Oppo? These are the guys who make the best-bang-for-the-buck DVD and BD players you can buy. Remember the $3500 Blu-Ray player that actually ended up being a rebadged Oppo?
This might not suck as much as we think. Hm.
This is sort of a random jump for a company renowned for (great customer service and) awesome DVD and now Blu-ray players....
That is the Sony PRS user interface on that screen. Battery, font size and page number bar. My PRS-505 looks exactly like that.
Hurray! Another E-reader with nothing exciting. If I was going to make a product I would add something that would excite and interest people. Seems like companies are getting too comfortable and lazy.
Can I point out that it looks like they just cropped out the screen from a Sony reader for that shot? The battery, text size indicator and font for the pages is identical to what I see on my Sony PRS-505 reader.
E-readers are boring.
@TechGuru "E-readers are boring."
Yup.
Big OPPO fan here. Joanna, can you humor us with a little more analysis?
do us a favor and save your lame posts to your own amusement.
well, you got my web-click nonetheless.
I dont think this has anything to do with android, they are going to release an android phone, but this ereader is not android
The only Android reader I want is the Engadget app. Bring it!
You sure it's not a rebadged Kindle or a rebadged Lexicon? hehe
Unfortunately, I think this is from the Chinese branch of Oppo, and not the US branch (Oppo Digital) which is known for its superior DVD and BD players. Apparently they are technically the same company, but the US division designs it's own products (can't verify this but Wikipedia says it's true) and this doesn't appear to be one of them.
If it is in fact the US division (which I doubt seeing as there is absolutely no mention of it on their site), I wouldn't judge an e-book by its cover because they are known for a high level of build quality using nice components.
Where is the Ubuntu e-reader?
