iPhone 3G's Android port is ready to download
Had enough Android excitement yet? Of course not. Following up on the Froyo release yesterday, we've got the no less vital news that the iPhone 3G port of Android is now ready to download and install. Having shown off Google's OS running on a 3G two weeks ago, author David Wang has clearly had to iron out a few kinks before serving up the necessary binaries, but here they are now, replete with a handy install guide he's penned over at PC World. Time to get yourself on the dual-booting bandwagon, no?

OMG, let's rock!
@stanar007
[Although this port does everything that you expect your smartphone to be able to do, it isn't usable for day-to-day activities just yet--I haven't implemented any power-management functions, so a fully charged iPhone running Android will last only an hour or so.]
Rock what exactly? Still some time needed for a proper implementation. Sweet nonetheless.
@stanar007
Freakin A. Just another reason why I should of kept my iPhone...
@stanar007
Can't wait for this to actually be useful. No media sync and only an hour or two on a full charge?
Keep up the good work though Mr. Wang.
You dont see the iphone os ported over to a droid,
looks down at droid;
Droid says: well i don't want it!
@stanar007
why the hell are we awake?
@stanar007
That's Apple for ya, locked down hardware, all restrictive and non customizable. So controlling and limiting for to the IT Savvy.
Ahh nothing like a sweet unix box after all
@stanar007 What I really want to see, is a different OS, ported to Android, seeing as it's so open source, and all.
@stanar007
Will this work on a 2G iPhone?
@stanar007 iPhone bootcamp!!!!!!!!
@BergerFan
Open source, I don't think it means what you think it means.
Also, commas.
@Almo So basically the same amount of battery life I get out my iPhone now eh? HeeeeyOhhhhhh!
@Almo Hopefully he'll have ironed out the power management kinks by the time I get the new iPhone. It means I don't have to import the T-Mobile Pulse Mini after all. Hurrah!
@xanatos451 If you only get two hours out of your iphone, then if you install this you will get around 10 minutes maybe less
@BuryTheCastle
"should of" ? Are you freaking kidding me? "should of" ?
Oooo, my evening project!
@John52 the first port was actually to a 2G iPhone
@stanar007 What's the point when you can jailbreak a phone???
@John52 Yep, and it was the 1st video, previewed. Waiting for flash :D http://j.mp/2g-iphone-android-tutorial
@mkeadle Is like when they also write "curront" instead of "current". I'm happy because I think I can write "currectly"
Could this also work with the iPhone 2G?
@demenzia
Yes, there are binaries for both the 3G, and the 2G. Check section 3 of the how-to
@demenzia Check this out, video install guide and downloadable code for the 2G:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/25/heres-how-to-install-android-on-your-iphone-2g/
@demenzia
I was wondering if it runs on the iPod Touch too? I'm sick of iPod OS.
@EGOvoruhk
What about 3GS????????????
@demenzia
i wonder if it's also available for the 3GS
@blanka there is no such thing as iPod OS, iPod touch is running iPhone OS.
@MINANTRA
Not yet for 3GS
@EGOvoruhk
Thanks! Can't wait to try this out on my 2G :)
@Techno1q You mean OS X Mobile?
@Techno1q There is such a thing as iPod OS. it's on it's like 9th iteration now with the new iPod nano
iPod OS was the very first OS apple made for mobile mp3 playing devices
Can it run Flash?
@Han Bao Quan As I doubt it will be running Froyo, no, it cannot run Flash.
Why????????????????????????
@Richardpaulknight
Ya. I don't get it either.
@Richardpaulknight
Simple. Because he can. It's the point of open source Android.
@Richardpaulknight
By that logic... after we have food and shelter, why 'do' anything?
This is seriously awesome.
I am so sick of my 3G. What was once a game changing device has since become a Cydia fueled series of compensations.
@tobsmonster2
"What was once a game changing device..."
You don't need to preface your stab at Apple. No need to lift them up before you tear them down.
Nice. Now you can dual boot two mobile OSes.
Now add WP7 just for fun and make it triple boot.
@RDM
Little do we know that Steve and Jon boobie trapped iPhones so that they'd explode if any software from Redmond was booted on the hardware.
@JimmyJimJim
Bing?
Thought so.
@APV
booted
Like having a Jackass [Donkey] pull a Tesla. [Translation: Having Apple's 3G Hardware run Android]
Note: 3G Hardware
@WilliamNighthawk
Like having a unicorn pull a giraffe. (wait ... that doesn't sound right)
@Professor Hubert J Farnsworth :] I expected to be down-ranked. I never said it was a bad port, instead I was referring directly to the 3G's hardware. This would have been a much better port on the 3GS.
@WilliamNighthawk Pretty much any OS will work fine on a 3GS-it's hardware is the same as the Pre and Droid.
Android FAIL.
iPhone OS4 would blow Android out of the water.
@macboy988
The OS probably won't. The appstore still does (opinion).
