Symbian^3 C7 with nHD display confirmed on Nokia's own site
If Nokia's N8 is just too much smartphone for you then perhaps you'd like to take it down a notch with the C7. As part of the C-series of Nokia devices, you can expect it to trim some of the specs off the N8, but not much as the flagship device of the family. You know, something very similar to the apparently leaked image and specs (pictured above) we saw a few weeks back. Parsing the XML posted on Nokia's own site reveals an ARM-based Symbian^3 C7-00 device with a Nokia favorite 360x640 nHD pixel display resolution and 3G UMTS/HSDPA, WiFi, and Bluetooth radios. Obviously no pricing is available but you can expect it to be fairly inexpensive for what you'll get.

yummy!
@2her0ck
But 2 weeks ago I was a Symbian fanboy, but after getting an iPod, nothing even comes remotely close to iOS. The competition is a freaking joke in comparison. Apple is so successful for a reason. A jailbroken iDevice is grinds everything else into dust.
@Kurian
O no! What has Jobs done to your mind!
@Protato
Everytime I take out my E63 I can't help laughing at the joke of an interface it has. Stupid screen tearing and icons getting stuck and half the screen not rendering when the CPU is busy like Windows 95. Unacceptable BS in this day and age.
I feel like such a fool for buying just an iPod instead of an iPhone. But its good in a way now I can sell it and get an iPhone 4 with minimal loss.
@Kurian You're being a bit disingenuous. Your E63 S60 budget business phone was never designed to be a toy like the iPod touch.
@Kurian
Symbian is getting old, yes. Better competitor right now would be top Android devices. Before MeeGo...
@huzzlehoff
Symbian is not getting old. S60 i.e Symbian^1 is getting old as is the UI called Avkon. S60 is out the window with the arrival of S^3 and Avkon will follow whenever S^4 is released. Judging an operating system just based on its UI is not very accurate. It's just like judging people based on what they wear.
@Kurian
tl;dr: "ipod shiny nokia no shiny"
@Rewes
I meant Symbian^1

Whats the difference?
Nokia the master of rehashes - high spec smartphones climbs in price more accessible for people that can't afford the N8. Smart move as always and Nokia's strongest competitive advantage - covering all price points. Let's hope the internals are passed from the N8 making it as smooth experience on this device.
From the new Nokia devices this year I think this is the only one that looks horrible.
Seems like Nokia wanted a piece of Samsung "design". At least runs Symbian3 and not that horrible Bada thing
Nokia, please don't give us this nHD display on your Meego devices. We want real HD (or at least WVGA).
'n' HD='not' HD
@Abhi9
This resolution is only Symbian's problem. Nokia's N9 will use a higher resolution.
@Abhi9
Nokia said that over time Meego devices will be the companies high end and flagship phones, they will end up being Active-matrix OLED screens.
@Abhi9 Actually, its probably better that Nokia use a lower res screen for this device. This is running on S^3 so, even though Nokia have tried to make it finger friendly, there are still times when you are stuck pressing little icons/boxes. A higher res screen would, most likely, make those features smaller and, therefore, harder to press. Nokia really needs to ditch S^3 on its touchphones and get better hardware. That or just stick to feature phones which are its bread and butter.
@NikAmi
The icons are created according to scale in inches not pixels, so it doesnt matter what the res of the screen is, the size of the icon is still the same - please get a clue.
Having personally used S^3 on the N8, I didnt face any issues with the touch. Neither have I faced any issues with touch on the iPhone4 (and 3G before that). In fact the quality and response of touch on both of them is pretty similar (and heads and shoulders above any Android offering except perhaps the Evo 4G).
@Abhi9
This is very unlikely.
The N900 had 800x480 so you can expect the N9 to have at least that.
nHD is not for high end.
@Abhi9
nHD is a goodresolution, 1/4 of 1280x720 and 1/9 of 1920x1080, which means that your HD content will look great on the screen with no effort from the CPU.
well the N8 is already brilliantly priced for the specs on it , I wonder what will this Nokia C7 be around , less then €300 unlocked anyway i bet.
@IMarius
250.
nHD = Nearly High Definition
@TruUnknowN
*One ninth of full HD.
cmon Nokia enough of this plastiky crap. We know that u need to cater to the low to mid range market also but plz atleast release one high end device which can kick the iphones glass butt.
@ssguy
And you have seen it in person?
How do you know this is plastic?
And have you heard of the N8?
Scratch resistant glass front and aluminum unibody. But I'm sure those are some for of plastic.
@Goc
dude I am yet to buy a non Nokia phone but I am tired of their design stagnation. They need to release some slim and good looking devices like HTC and fast.
@ssguy
HTC and their slim phone with power hungry processors are not all that great, the battery life on my desire was shocking bad. I kinda want my phones to you know not run dry when i need to make a call.

@ssguy
N8. Probably the best looking phone to date
@ssguy
N8, a Metal phone that does not drop bars while holding. Check it out.
When will they launch X7 and E7. we need more choices.
@MySchizoBuddy
What Engadget calls the "flagship device of the family" is the E7 and it should be available in october/november.
@MySchizoBuddy
Yeah I'm waiting for Symbian ^3 Xseries phones too! Hopefully they'll announce something in Nokia World. Can't wait to get my hands on S^3!
what camera phone is he using to photograph this thing?
@boxieblue
think its an Nokia N86
@IMarius
Doesn't look like my n86.I think it's the n96
@raph986
Yup your right , which is funny cause i actually meant the N96 and said the wrong thing , i wonder if you win a prize for guessing right.
I wish Engadget would change it's name from gadgets to something formal like "Craptastic SmartPhone Blog," so I wouldn't bother coming here to try and read it.
@rjsilvers you know that they can't do that. that would piss off steve jobs.
That doesn't look like a micro USB charger to me ... What happened to the so called standard?
@stringent
Newer Nokias can use both the standard 2mm port and the MicroUSB for charging.
@stringent
The European Commission did say all phone companies have to use micro USB for all their phone chargers (but this only applies to europe, but other places have followed) but they did not say it could not have another charger port on it as well, anyway this is most likely just a demo unit.
@Goc bcoz 2mm charger is way faster than the USB one...
@thejan2009
You should ask Nokia why they did this. His statement was wrong and needed to be corrected.
@thejan2009 tell that to my BB Bold.
It fills up in less than 2h, and the battery is so huge...
What is slow is USB from a PC, USB from sector is great.
@Flix C
Still, a 2 mm charger can be faster since the USB spec does not allow for as much power to go through.
No, thanks.
ugly but working
This will offer tremendous value for money...
Nice one!
