Tata bringing two all-electric cars to a Europe near you by March
First of all, don't worry, the spontaneously combusting Nano isn't among the pair of newly Euro-bound EVs from Tata. Going slightly more upmarket, the Indian company will be launching the Indica Vista EV hatchback for eco-conscious Brits and Scandinavians early next year, alongside the somewhat less exciting Ace, a commercial mini-truck. The Indica Vista has clearly had a few trials and tribulations in coming to market in an all-electric form, having originally been promised to Norwegian tree huggers for 2009, so let's just hope that this schedule is the one that sticks. It's about time this whole EV movement got some more affordable options.

looks like a prius
@zingo01
In what possible way does it look like a Prius? It's got wheels, but can't see any other similarities...
As electric cars go, I think this looks acceptable.
@wickywills
Hahaha.. +1 sir.
I think it looks good as well. Tata is on the rise! Who would have thought?
I really like the increased amount of competitors in the automobile space. I suspect that the simplified and modular nature of EVs, soon, car brands will be as varied as computer brands, while a few companies will specialize in the manufacture of parts (motor, transmission, battery).
@wickywills
looks more like a cross between a ford fiesta and a vauxhall corsa.
Not bad!
@dgoulston
thats more along the lines I was thinking of - with a bit of Citreon thrown in there for good measure :-)
If I was 'green' i'd happily get one...instead I'm getting an old Subaru WRX (not quite as green)
@zingo01 Why oh why does everything have to be a "copy" of something else in the gadget and gizmo industries? Surely what matters most is who produces the best product at the end of it all.
@zingo01
Nice tatas!
@dgoulston
I would have thought more people would have been interested in a nice pair of TaTas.
@dgoulston
You do realize that Vauxhall is not a real car manufacturer? It's just Opel's range of cars with the steering wheel on the right :P
@Fantastica To be fair, I don't think this looks like a copy of anything. On the other hand, it looks like something Toyota would've designed in the late 90s, which is not a good thing. The eco-conscious expect their cars to look different, not like plain white bread. It doesn't help that this thing looks old. I can think of a dozen better options. Tata needs to try harder next time.
@zingo01 note to self when making the first comment remember to uncheck the box that allows me to get an email when someone replies
@wickywills
Wow, you MUST be blind if you dont see the similarities!!!! It's got a windshield, windows and doors too!!!! And I am pretty sure I spotted mirrors and headlights. ;-)
@zingo01
Actually it looks like a Ford Ka.
Too bad there are no Europes near me :(
@wemustcontrolpeople
Me either, sadly. I hope to see these in an episode of Top Gear, since the nearest thing to Europe around these parts is BBC America.
All Indians Rejoice I guess, including me. I love Tata for their great after market service & beautiful engines, they're always a pleasure to drive.
@shreyas
Compared to what? A lawnmower...Tata cars are junk...
@shreyas
Tata make possibly the worst cars I've ever driven. Their exteriors are ugly, their interiors are cheap and ugly, and their engines are underpowered and ugly. Have you never driven anything else?
@shreyas Oh come on - seriously? The Nano has been a publicity coup, not because it's actually any good but because it makes motoring affordable for Indians who could otherwise only afford a mopeg.

@Apple Google Microsoft The looks I agreed are not so impressive, The engine, I would'nt think so, The quardra jet & Tdi engines are damn impressive, This car is not about looks, its about value for money.
@Apple Google Microsoft have you driven Tata cars or just saying things out of your A##?. its easy say its ugly or bad but if you get down to do things to make it work then you know even a small thing can be really great. its good that Tata is finally making a headway to export automobiles to other countries. 3 cheers for their trying to make something good(but not perfect yet).
@sammyvibrantuser
Unfortunately I'm not talking out of my ass, I have driven Tata cars before, and they are simply crap. These cars will never be successful in Europe because they are overpriced for what they are. When for a few thousand more you could have the bullet-proof build quality of a Volkswagen, why would you settle for cheap rubbish?
@shreyas
Then they had better be dirt cheap! People expect ALOT from their cars these days in Europe, and they will happily buy something else that is slightly more expensive if the quality is better.
@sammyvibrantuser
I love small cars but it doesn't change the fact that Tata and other Indian and Chinese auto manufacturers are generations behind western auto companies...there is a reason why these companies are falling over to buy western car companies...they need the technology...
Again, Tata make crap cars...perhaps they are good enough for India but they are absolute rubbish for the western world...rubbish...RUBBISH
@Apple Google Microsoft Ok. I got it but each country is different. western countries are advanced (of course) with more money and technology power can do more things faster and better. My point is, I can't compare in US a Honda to Kia. Honda is Honda and Kia is say Kia.
there is a market for every type of car. Each is based on individual needs.
If Tata is going be selling in Europe then they have gone thru European certification and without that they can't sell, it may have cheap material but as long as its safe and runs smooth i see no problem.
@lip Ok. if you don't like fine. there are others who will buy it.
If India and china is are far behind then how come they are can make electric cars and sell it in Europe but i see non from Europe(maybe i missed it) selling elsewhere. Toyoto/Honda/Nissan all are not from Europe so which one?
also, Indian and Chinese economy are the ones thats growing now as compared other countries which is still struggling with recession.
I like to look things in a positive way than calling it cheap or rubbish.
@Apple Google Microsoft
You mean the so called 'bulletproof" quality of VW? Skoda which is owned by VW is butt of all jokes in India. Google on Skoda India and check out the reliablity of VW owned Skoda.
BTW, Tata is selling gas powered Indica vista in Spain and Italy which is part of EU successfully. Rover rebadging Indica and selling them for an arm and leg was a bad marketing strategy which is reason why they do not exist.
@lip You know that Jaguar and Rover are owned by TATA?
Yes, that means that an XKR is a TATA Car and so is your Range Rover Sport.
You really need to start reading.
Finally a decent looking commercial electric car :)
Electric cars are a good idea, but the charging is the real problem. Its ok if you have a driveway, you can charge at night, but there are millions of terest houses in the UK & you have to park on the road & not always outside your own house, so it would be impractical to install one outside every house, so electric cars will work for the majority of car owners but hydrogen car are the best solution for the rest of the population (just fill up & go)
@Newwales
Agreed, I live in a modern block of flats, and have my own parking space in the underground secured car park, it they installed them in my car park they would be a good idea, but without the car park, I had to park 5 mins walk from my flat...
That would be one long cable!
Can't wait till the Stig gives it a go.
@FriarNurgle
That would be a job for "green Stig"
@FriarNurgle
Would have made a good "reasonably priced car"...
Damn it, the Europe finder just told me that my nearest Europe is about 3,500 miles away and doesn't even have wifi.
@Technogasms
what part of europe does not have wifi ??
@IMarius I was joking, but southwestern Ireland had limited wifi availability when last I was there and I'm not taking "but that was in 2006" as an acceptable excuse.
@Technogasms
well since, i am living in Ireland i think i would know it not really that bad , i mean southwestern ireland could mean places like cork which are cities and have very good coverage. And yes i am sure if you where staying in rural town back in 06 it might not have been great.
@IMarius I'll have to update Europe Finder with that info then.
They should have their Jag or Rover design team do a remake of the Tata to make it more marketable as this doesn't look like it compete well other EVs.
hmm i wonder the quality and price on the Tata will be compared to traditional Small european city cars like the fiat punto/bravo, renalt clio, ford fiesta and mini.
Maybe next year I could find the time and money to get my drivers license then.... Hope the car comes cheap!!
Thin-walled Chinese beer can.
Death trap.
Do they fortify components with Melamine ???
HaHa Motors.
btw TATA is a kiddie word for Shit
@airbag888
Just like I tell that I am either going to China or Pakistan when I go to take a dump.
Bodacious.
This is so cool! Imagine when every car on the road will be all-electric. Crazy stuff...
