  • Joyswag: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition codes

    by

    05.16.2011

We've already gone over the purpose and proclivities of The Witcher: He hunts and exterminates beasts that don't belong in this world, imbibes body-altering mutagens, and perpetually responds to the world with a determined grimace. It's a pretty cool job. Witcher watchers are likely aware that the grizzled warrior-monk, Geralt of Rivia, is set to return tomorrow in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. We've got three copies to give away, courtesy of GOG. The game is already available for pre-purchase on the retro service, and while it's not exactly fitting with those old PC games, it does come without DRM. (Copies bought elsewhere will require a one-time online activation via Securom.) We're also giving away ten GOG download codes for The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, the revamped RPG that kicked off Geralt's gareer -- uh, career. Read the instructions below the break, leave a comment, and you're in.

  • Yakuza 4 producer Yasuhiro Noguchi on re-localizing the series

    04.13.2011

Reading about Yakuza 4 is great, but you could also be playing it! And ... wearing it! We've got five copies of the game, and five t-shirts, to give away at the end of this interview. March is typically a big month for the Yakuza series. In 2010, Yakuza 3 came out in the West in March, and Yakuza 4 in Japan. This year, Yakuza 4 hit North America and Europe, and Yakuza: Of the End almost came out in Japan (but was delayed to June 9 due to the earthquake). On the occasion of 4's Western release, we spoke to producer Yasuhiro Noguchi about the changes made between the last two games, and the significant step forward Sega made in localization.

    03.21.2011

How does one pay tribute to such a great console as the late Sega Dreamcast? With cool swag, of course. To celebrate the company's final console -- and the release of Dreamcast Collection -- Sega manufactured a limited run of the title's soundtrack on vinyl. This snow-white record was intended only for Australia, but we got our hands on a few to give to you (because we kinda, y'know, like you). Some really sharp Dreamcast hoodies were also made. They're zip-up, with orange hood lining and draw strings, plus an embroidered Dreamcast logo on the front and the Dreamcast swirl above the words "Still Thinking ... " on the back. Four lucky readers will win a package consisting of one soundtrack vinyl, one sweatshirt and one copy of Dreamcast Collection for Xbox 360. Head past the break for the full contest rules, and good luck!

    01.03.2011

Did you know today was Lord of the Rings scribe JRR Tolkien's birthday? If you did, you probably also know that fans of "The Professor" toast his birth at 9pm your local time. It's true! Read all about it here on the Tolkien Society's website. To celebrate the occasion (oh, and we guess to promote the upcoming Lord of the Rings: War in the North video game), Warner Bros. sent over the above kit, replete with L-sized shirt, sparkling cider and three shot glasses that would look at home in the land of Middle Earth. Since we don't keep this stuff (and everyone on staff is allergic to non-alcoholic beverages) we're going to send this to one of you. Obviously, you won't get it in time to toast The Professor, but something tells us he won't mind if you're a few days late. Find out what you've got to do after the break and, if you're reading this at 9pm your time, a toast: to The Professor!%Gallery-112390%

To celebrate the holidays, we're having twelve straight days of giveaways up through Christmas day. And while we say it's to celebrate, really ... we're simply getting rid of some of the larger packages around the ol' office. Remember when Microsoft promised everyone in the audience during its 2010 E3 keynote a brand-new Xbox 360 S, the just-announced redesigned console? We've got just one left and we're going to take this opportunity to unload it before the year's out. But instead of just a plain ol' 250GB Xbox 360 S console, we're going to spice matters up with codes for all three of this month's Xbox Live Arcade "Games for the Holidays," featuring A World of Keflings, Raskulls, and ilomilo. We've got nine other sets of codes which we'll be handing out on Twitter and Facebook over the course of the week but, for now, get in on our final piece of Joyswag in this series. Happy holidays!%Gallery-95140%

Our theme for day eight is Halo: Reach and, we'll be honest ... it's a strange collection. First (and certainly foremost!) is this pair of military-grade Oster hair clippers and virtually indestructible Pelican case. Some of you may be more interested in an actual video game than hair clippers with video game branding so, for you, we've got another Halo: Reach-themed case. The press kit briefcase, pictured after the break, includes a copy of the game, The Fall of Reach book by Eric Nylund, the Halo: Reach gamepad, and some other trinkets. We're going to send both cases out to one lucky reader. Find out how to enter after the break. %Gallery-92034%

And for our third giveaway, we've got a massive Fallout: New Vegas neon sign that showed up on this writer's doorstep this very morn'. Bethesda – can we call you Beth? – the goal of this exercise (in addition to generating holiday cheer and all that muck) is to reduce the number of oversized packages containing things like neon signs from our collective living spaces. And readers: The only thing New Vegas-related at this Joystiq outpost is this sign, so you'll have to make do without the game. But hey, if you're thinking about putting this up in your home, it's probably safe to assume you've already got a copy, right?

No More Heroes 2 Original Soundtrack CD with music from Akira Yamaoka, Jun Fukuda, The RIOT and others -- that can be yours for ¥3150 (about $38). In order to promote the new store, GhM sent us the aforementioned CD, the Hopper's Edition of No More Heroes 2 (detailed here) and the pre-order-only "Erotic Comic" to give away to one of you, so that's precisely what we're going to do with this very post.
