The online multiplayer servers for the PS3's Motorstorm: Pacific Rift and the PSP's MotorStorm Arctic Edge and SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 will be shut down on October 1, according to an alert on the UK PlayStation site. If you have fond memories of sweet offroad racing and coordinated military strikes with friends, you should revisit them now before it's too late. Before those three, the PSP's augmented reality card game The Eye of Judgment Legends will go offline on August 31. We've asked Sony to verify these dates are worldwide, and don't just apply to the UK.

If you're one of what must be millions of PS3 owners who have already dropped three large on a Bravia 3DTV, you've already experienced a small taste of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift in 3D as part of the demo pack Sony gave you. Good news for you: The experience doesn't end there. As part of tomorrow's PlayStation Store update, Sony is making MotorStorm 3D Rift available, a more substantial 3D-ified release of the game featuring 10 courses, each linked to a specific event type. Unfortunately, there's no multiplayer (online or off), but at least it'll run on those old-fashioned 2D televisions, too -- like anyone uses those anymore! The price of admission for this thrill ride: $10. The price of the game running in 3D: 30 frames per second.

Though they're usually much better at smashing things, the folks at Evolution Studios now have to sit down quietly and fix a few things. A new game patch for Motorstorm: Pacific Rift is oiled up and raring to hit the dirt soon, bringing with it a few new tweaks and fixes.According to the PlayStation Blog, the forthcoming patch will significantly adjust the manner in which the game handles saved data, add a critical transfer notification and lift copy restrictions. Problems like the boost-exploit glitch, which grants players infinite boost, will also be done away with. You'll find the full annotations after the break.

The first MotorStorm title was known to have a multitude of downloadable content (of course, some could argue it was needed -- at least for the Japanese release). Speaking to CVG, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift Game Director Nigel Kershaw has revealed that weekly DLC is being planned. "We've got a pile of stuff waiting in the wings," he said, "and you'll be glad to know, a lot of it is free."Kershaw said that "major packs" will be coming after Christmas. Previous MotorStorm DLC included new game modes, new tracks and new vehicles. Kudos to the developer for taking what we're affectionately calling the Rock Band model for support. No word on when we should expect the added content to start rolling out. Pacific Rift launched this week in North America.

Interested in seeing what you'll be driving across Motorstorm's tropical paradise this fall, or better yet, what sorts of wreckage will be left in your wake? Why not both, as Sony has released information detailing Motorstorm: Pacific Rift's vehicle line-up, which boasts eight different vehicle classes, each demanding a different style of driving across 16 island tracks.Among those featured in the game include old favorites like mudpluggers and motorbikes, and the sequel's newly introduced monster trucks, which promise plenty of devastation when the game careens into a palm tree this October (turning on a dime is tough!).

  • Motorstorm 2 = Motorstorm: Pacific Rift

If Hollywood has taught us anything, it's that the best entry in a popular franchise will always have a stylized "2" somewhere in its title. Oh, but not Paul Hollywood. Noooo, he's saying that Motorstorm's first sequel won't be distinguished by a number, but rather its "Pacific Rift" subtitle. Also, you'll notice it has a lot more trees than the last game.Speaking at Sony's PlayStation Day 2008 event, the creative director at Evolution Studios talked up some of the features in the upcoming Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. Boasting twice the number of tracks and four times as many racers in local multiplayer (total: four) than the PlayStation 3 launch title, Pacific Rift puts racers in a tropical locale, one filled with interactive vegetation technology. It's a fancy way of saying that when you're playing chicken with a rather large tree, you'd best be inside one of the game's new monster trucks. Another benefit of hurtling through lush island terrain can be found in bodies of water -- splashing through them can cool down your engine temperature. We're sure to learn and see more of Motorstorm 2 Motorstorm: Pacific Rift closer to its planned Fall release. It had been rumored around the internet for a while now, so it's not exactly shocking news to hear its confirmation. Motorstorm 2 has officially been re-named Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. We're almost certain we'd heard this before, but since it hadn't been confirmed (the official unveiling is due in June's edition of PlayStation: The Official Magazine) we thought it'd be nice to assure you that you can, in fact, call the game by this title when amongst groups of friends. So get ready to race around some sexy islands and get into some sexy crashes later this year with Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.[Thanks, Andrew Gaspar!]

Happy PAIN day! Those of you who have been anticipating PAIN all these weeks months will no doubt be overjoyed to finally see it hit the PSN Store -- and with so many add-on packs too! Those of you who don't care for PAIN might be a bit disappointed because that's pretty much all their is. Just keep watching that HD Motorstorm 2 trailer over and over. Here's the full release list: PAIN full game (£4.99) PAIN "Muffy" add-on (£0.69) PAIN "Cookie" add-on (£0.69) PAIN "Hung-Lo" add-on (£0.69) PAIN "Santa" add-on (£0.69) PAIN "Scurv Dogg" add-on (£0.69) PAIN "Ginger" add-on (£0.69) PAIN "Fun with Explosives" add-on (free) Stranglehold map pack (£9.99) MotorStorm 2 trailer (free) This certainly matches up to the "roadmap" that was leaked, but we'll reserve judgment further until a couple more weeks have gone by. It's nice to see that Europe is now up to date with PAIN content -- hopefully SCEE can keep us in sync from now on so that we don't have to suffer from any more ridiculous delays. If you're wondering why we haven't mentioned the Stranglehold pack, it's because it's ridiculously expensive and not worth our time. We're ignoring it and suggest you should too.

  • Motorstorm sequel gears up for Fall release

Those eager to strap themselves into inelegant hunks of metal and hurtle across slippery jungle tracks take note: You are insane. Also, you might be interested in the upcoming Motorstorm 2 (working title, apparently), which takes the best-selling PS3 launch game's off-road racing into the "unpredictability of a remote Pacific Island." There you'll encounter 16 new multi-route tracks and impossibly huge monster trucks. Thankfully, you won't be experiencing the "thick swamps, dense jungle, towering peaks and steaming volcanoes" on your own, as the online racing mode will cater for up to 16 players. Motorstorm 2 also promises a revolutionary new feature: "Split-screen Multiplayer" for up to four players! We hope that means the sequel will actually feel complete, as opposed to feeling dependent on patches and DLC over the course of several months.Motorstorm is expected to return on PlayStation 3 this Fall. Until then, you can watch the embedded trailer which likely isn't very representative of the game -- again.

Threespeech's mysterious countdown has ended today with exactly what we were expecting - MotorStorm 2 has been officially announced. A CG teaser trailer accompanies the press release and can be seen above. While it doesn't show any gameplay, it does show what we can come to expect from the game when it's released later this year. MotorStorm fans who are fed up of dust and rocks will be able to look forward to a lush, island location for the next game. Much like the vehicle sections in Uncharted, we hope. Other qualms from the first game have been resolved, such as split-screen play which will be included in MotorStorm 2 and will support up to 4 players on a single screen. A new vehicle type, the Monster Truck, will also be a part of the sequel. With levels that incorporate mud, tangled vines and lava pools, we can't wait to see the game in action. Until then, there's just the above video available to whet our appetites.[UPDATE] This trailer deserves to be watched in its true Hi-Def glory and GameTrailers have you covered. Enjoy!

  • Motorstorm 2 gets monster trucks, lots of water

It seems information regarding Evolution Studios' sequel to last year's hit Motorstorm is finally surfacing. Some scans from the latest issue of OPM reveal not only the new locales featuring water, water everywhere, but monster trucks as drivable options. There's more info in the scans uploaded by C.Birch on the PS3 Forums, waiting for you to read them. But the main points are thus: Water. Monster trucks. Driving. Apparently, dodging vehicles once you're ousted from your own plays some kind of part, but we won't know until we see more.

ThreeSpeech, Sony's "semi-official" PlayStation 3 weblog has received a new lick of paint recently, you'll be happy to hear. The site looks altogether much spiffier, with a wider page format and a countdown timer. A countdown to what, though? You don't really have to be a rocket scientist to work out that when that timer reaches zero we'll be treated to some sort of Motorstorm 2 coverage. We were promised a trailer by French site JeuxVideo but it never materialized. Even if we hadn't been given the blatant clue "a new breed of warrior will be born," we would've expected to see the video appear whenever the timer runs out. You never know, though. We've been wrong before ...

Our French isn't that great, but over at JeuxVideo, they seem to say something about an exclusive reveal of Motorstorm 2 happening soon. How soon? Wednesday. The reveal is most likely a video, since that appears to be the draw to the site itself. What'll it show? Just some pre-rendered footage? A slideshow of cars and proposed tracks? Gameplay of a game that will surprise us at just how far along it is? It's a mystery to us, but Wednesday is sounding like an exciting day.

    02.25.2008

In an article entitled "PlayStation bounces back" BBC's editor of their online Technology news index, Darren Waters, reveals why he considers the PS3 to be back on track. Waters has been shown a few exciting projects behind closed doors, including a gameplay demo of Motorstorm 2. No longer set in a desert, the game will feature a "lush island environment, full of interactive vegetation." Not only that, but in response to numerous criticisms leveled at the original Motorstorm, the sequel will have four-player split screen. The game is due out in time for Christmas this year.Waters was also shown a trailer for Resistance 2, another huge upcoming first party title, which he describes as "epic." We're looking forward to seeing the trailer for ourselves whenever it's released to the pubic. Finally, Waters teases about a game which isn't due out until 2009 and which is shrouded in complete secrecy. It seems to have left him impressed because he states that he "was left speechless. If the footage I was shown truly is 'in game,' as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion."Anyone else got goosebumps right now? It sounds like Sony have got some exciting stuff on the horizon for us. Judging from GDC, however, we need to remain patient for just a little bit more before we become privy to their plans.

We've officially known a sequel to Motorstorm was in the works since last September (and logically known it for much longer) but we've been short on details. That changed today when the BBC reported that Motorstorm 2 would be released in time for Christmas and would feature four-player split-screen (huzzah!).The piece also revealed that players would "race around a lush island environment, full of interactive vegetation." You say "interactive vegetation," we say "hottest new buzzword of 2008 con-firmed."
