It appears that Platinum Games will release current-gen remasters of Bayonetta and Vanquish, two of the studio's most popular games, early next year on Xbox One. This week, separate listings for the two titles, along with a bundle that includes both of them, have appeared on the Microsoft Store. They were first spotted by Siliconera.

Geoff Keighley has been touting this year's The Game Awards as the gaming industry's answer to the Oscars. Now that the ceremony has concluded, we can safely say that he delivered. It had all the hallmarks of a lavish awards show: Live orchestra (check), fervent spiels (check), Hollywood a-listers (check). And, there was the return of the hotly-anticipated game reveals that -- in part -- helped nab 8.6 million viewers last time round. If you didn't catch the action online, we've got your back. Below you'll find a list of the night's winners and the game trailers that went out live from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. As always, there were touching moments too, like a noticeably awestruck Melina Juergens getting the Best Performance award for Hellblade from Andy Serkis.

  • Survey shows boys think women are underrepresented in video games

A recent exploratory study conducted by Time has found that 47 percent of middle-school and 61 percent of high-school-aged boys believe that female characters in video games are too often treated as sex objects. The survey was conducted to examine issues of sexism in video games and asked over 1,400 students about their feelings surrounding how women are depicted in the medium. What's more, 70 percent of girls surveyed said that the gender of a protagonist doesn't factor into them playing a game while a surprising 78 percent of boys said the same. And 58 percent of boys who identified as gamers think there should be more female heroes in game, like Bayonetta up above, for example. Oh, and reassuringly "very few" of the respondents knew what Gamergate was. Phew.

  • 'Bayonetta' is now a stupidly difficult 16-bit browser game

Nintendo essentially saved Bayonetta 2 from cancellation, which pleased many Wii U fans given it became one of the best-reviewed games of 2014. However, if you're one of the people that's yet to buy Nintendo's latest home console, you can still get a fresh fix of Platinum Games' shapeshifting witch. The developer just released a free browser game that has you fending off waves of supernatural monsters in a retro 2D shooter. The controls are ridiculously simple -- space to jump, enter to shoot -- but in true Platinum fashion, they're devilishly hard to master, especially when the number of enemies on-screen keeps increasing. Funnily enough, this isn't the first time we've seen the game either; the company once teased a similar-looking title as an April Fools' joke five years ago. This isn't quite as ambitious, but it's still a terrific way to waste five minutes on your lunch break.

  • Platinum gets conceptual with Bayonetta's Nintendo costumes

You can channel Nintendo's heroines (and Hyrule's hero) while unleashing crazy combos in Bayonetta 2, but it's worth taking a break from witchcraft to see how the collaboration came together in the first place. As Platinum Games detailed in a recent blog post, Bayonetta's first borrowed garb was the result of director Hideki Kamiya asking Platinum's Yong-Hee Cho to draw Bayonetta in a Princess Peach outfit. The above image and the full gallery below shows some of Cho's conceptual interpretations, but Kamiya pushed to keep the dress closer to Peach's original style. After tying Bayonetta's hair up, adding a Mario charm and some forearm flair, Kamiya and Cho were pleased with the results. Kamiya's direction similarly led to the Samus costume resembling the bounty hunter's initial venture on the NES, but the development of Bayonetta's tunic is interesting: After Kamiya approved Cho's traditional take on Link's classic attire, Cho turned the designs in to Nintendo for approval. They were returned with a suggestion that Cho open the tunic's top a little more. Bayonetta's Nintendo-themed wardrobe is available in both Bayonetta games on the Wii U, and in the case of Bayonetta 2, Contributing Editor Earnest Cavalli's review remarked that it's a "grand sequel that overshadows the most gleefully over-the-top aspects of its predecessor with entirely new levels of awe-inspiring spectacle." • One-button Bayonetta: Disabled gamers fight for inclusion

Last year, former games journalist Adam Sessler confessed that for the first time his age kept him from being able to play a game that he needed to complete for his job. It's a sobering reminder that we all have limits. Those often come in different forms, but nobody can do everything. Fundamentally, games are about challenge and require some form of conflict to be compelling. That challenge can come in a huge variety of forms, from puzzles to fighting game combos, but the player is always the core component to completing these assignments. Many challenges, however, can prove impossible for some players. In the past few years, video games have grown, trying to adapt themselves to suit larger and broader audiences. Despite this growth, a segment of would-be gamers continue to be effectively locked out by constraints like color blindness or physical ability. Some dedicated groups have been looking to change that, however; and the work they are doing might just open the floodgates for everyone else.

Funimation provided a first look - moreover a first listen - at its English-dubbed version of feature-length anime Bayonetta: Bloody Fate. Directed by Afro Samurai's Fuminori Kizaki, the Western version sees Hellena Taylor reprise her role as the vivacious witch, so that's a big plus. The film will be available in North America as a Blu-ray and DVD Combo starting October 21 - it's currently priced $26.24 on Funimation's site. Meanwhile, the clock's ticking down on the Western launch of Wii U exclusive Bayonetta 2. The hopefully enchanting spectacle featuring the bespectacled enchantress is coming to North America and Europe sometime in October. Are your shelves so stuffed with movies, books and games that they can't fit even one more case? Are you dismayed that, despite Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U bundling a copy of the original Bayonetta into a single package, you simply have nowhere to put the thing? Fret no more, good sirs and madams, for the Nintendo eShop is here for you! According to a statement given by a Nintendo rep to NintendoWorldReport, this miracle elixir digital store will offer both Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 as individual purchases. And while those looking for the complete Bayonetta experience will need to make separate purchases, buying both will cost the same as if you had picked up a physical copy. However, neither game's digital version has been given an official pricetag just yet. It's okay; these things take time. Say, about three months' worth of time? Bayonetta 2 hits the Wii U this October. [Image: Nintendo]

If October's Wii U debut of Bayonetta 2 just isn't enough sexy witch for your tastes, you'll be pleased to learn that Funimation has signed an agreement to release the Bayonetta: Bloody Fate anime feature film in North America. Bayonetta: Bloody Fate is based on Platinum Games' critically beloved, fan-favorite action game Bayonetta, which sees the titular witch battling the forces of heaven in a quest to regain her memory. Amnesia is as common a trope in Japanese fiction as magical schoolgirls or giant robots, but Bayonetta brings her own special flair to the well-worn storyline. If nothing else, it takes a very special protagonist to wield guns on her feet without making the whole premise seem like the sort of thing conjured up in the mind of a 10-year-old hopped up on high fructose corn syrup. Funimation has yet to reveal a release date (or even a nebulous release window) for the film, but it does state that director Fuminori Kizaki will be on hand at this year's Anime Expo in Los Angeles for a special, sneak peek at the English dub of Bayonetta: Bloody Fate. Following the July 5 screening, Kizaki will be available to answer questions from fans, though if you're looking for a logical explanation behind the physics of Bayonetta's magical hair, you're likely to walk away disappointed.
